In this vlog, Tilly Lockey and her travel companions recount a chaotic airport experience caused by a missing birth certificate for Tia, which nearly prevented them from boarding their flight to Johannesburg. After a frantic search and a helpful airline staff member, they finally board and land in South Africa after a 16‑hour journey. Upon arrival, Tilly showers, checks into the hotel, and shares her excitement for the upcoming SingularityU South Africa event. She outlines the schedule: a rehearsal for her upcoming Q&A session, a welcome dinner where she networks with fellow speakers, a listening day, her panel appearance with Benji, and plans for a bush trip. The vlog also briefly shows the convention venue, capturing the atmosphere of anticipation and camaraderie among the participants.

So we've just had the most stressful airport experience ever just because Tia didn't have a birth certificate and we didn't really know we needed it. Luckily I had mine, like my dad had packed mine, but we didn't know where Tia's was to be honest. So she was like you need your birth certificate to get on the plane because we can't board yet. And we were already kind of late anyway, but luckily the flight was delayed, so that really worked in our favor. And we had to get on the phone with my mom, and my mom had to go frantically looking for Tilly's birth certificate. Somehow she found it and was able to get here on time because we live around 25 minutes away from Newcastle, so it was a little bit of a drive but not too much. But luckily she got here with a passport because she needed that too and all that stuff. For letter of consent and we handed it over and she was like, that's still wrong, you need a copy of the passport rather than the actual passport. Which we were kind of like, surely the real passport's good enough. But anyway, the head of it all came down and then she said that it was fine and that we could just get on the plane. So thanks to that woman, thank you to her, we are now in Burger King and we board very soon. But as just as a treat because we were stressed as anything, Burger King.
Hi everyone, so we've just got to the hotel now. We're in South Africa in Johannesburg finally after 16 hours of traveling. I decided to go in the shower, that's why my hair's a bit wet. But now we're here, I'm just really excited to go out and see it. And I have got a rehearsal because I'm going to be doing a little presentation here, a question and answer on the stage at the SingularityU event. So I'm going to do a rehearsal for that in an hour or so, so we're just having a cup of tea And then yeah, tomorrow's the convention where I'm just watching. The next day is me when I'm actually speaking, and then we have a bunch of free days, and then we've got the bush trip, which I'm really excited about.
So we're at the welcome meal right now on the first day, and we're just basically here today to have a nice meal and be able to speak and network with all the other people who are speaking at the event that I am, which is SingularityU in South Africa.
And yeah, we're just gonna chat a little bit and So I've just got back from the welcome meal with SingularityU and all the other speakers, and I was sat next to some really interesting people on our table, and it's just made me look forward to the event tomorrow even more. I'm not actually speaking tomorrow, I just get to listen to everyone, see what everyone's doing around the world, which will be really interesting.
And I'll also—
I also have a couple of interviews to do, and then the next day after that is my actual day of when I'm on a panel with this dude called Benji, and he seems really cool. So yeah, everybody seems to be really looking forward to it. So yeah, so day 2 right now, and well, it's technically day 3 because we were traveling for 2 days, but this is the first actual day of the convention, so I'm really excited to see how it all looks. And yeah, it'll be pretty cool, and I can't wait to see what everybody else is going to be talking about as well.
So this is the venue of the convention.
The screen is absolutely huge, as you can see here. Can't wait till it's my turn.
