Four LX Council members explain why they stay. One joined on a friend's recommendation for entrepreneurial insights. Another has been there 15 years, calling it a place to relax and get frank advice. The group values the mix of engineers, business owners, and family-business leaders who help each other solve problems and occasionally hit on breakthrough ideas.
I had a friend of mine that referred me to Council. You know, he was getting a lot of value out of it and he thought, you know, since we were kind of an entrepreneur-type individual that I could get a lot of value out of hearing the experiences of some of the other people on the Council.
I had an invite to join and stayed with them through to my retirement and it was a very valuable and rewarding experience for 15 years almost.
I was looking for a group to run ideas past and to continue my own training and development, so it was a good fit.
It's a very diverse group of people, men and women, and it's, it's a very stimulating group of people. Different backgrounds, some are engineers, some are business people, some family business, some managing businesses, but coming together from a number of different areas, and it's extremely stimulating, the whole concept of giving information and receiving information, and it's— I found it just absolutely wonderful.
It's a chance just to— I wouldn't say relax, but to let go a lot of the sort of the tension and stress you feel in your own business, to relax with a group of people and discuss issues that you don't have to spend a lot of time preparing about, that you speak in a very frank and open and cooperative manner. And also, you know, there are times when you really have an issue that you would like to bring to the table, and it provides you with, you know, information which can be very valuable. I don't know how you put a value on that. You know, if you get one idea a year, it's, it's worth a lot.
So it's more than just a business support group, it's a personal support group, or at least it has been for me over 20 years. So the only reason I dropped out is because I turned the company over to my children And I'm no longer the president of the company, or I would still be involved.
