An announcement.

Tod Maffin is closing his merch store because his fulfillment partner routed Canadian orders through the U.S., creating unexpected duties. Final sales end December 15th at shop.todmaffin.com. He'll relaunch after the new year with a Canadian fulfillment partner and donate a portion of lifetime sales to the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Foundation.

Hello friends, it's Tod with a bit of an announcement. I am shutting my merch store down, and I'm gonna tell you why. I started one because people liked the phrase "Relentless Decency," and they asked if they could get it on a shirt or on wall art. So I set up a merch store. But after I launched it, I discovered that the fulfillment partner that we picked could not guarantee that orders bound for Canada would start their journey in Canada. Most did, almost all did. Most were made in Canada, shipped from Mississauga, but a small handful, when their Canadian facilities got busy, would be sent to the US to get fulfilled. That would sometimes mean surprise duties, and you know, while we disclosed that everywhere all over the store, it just, it never felt right. It felt like I was breaking the spirit of what we're trying to build together here. So rather than make excuses, I'm gonna shut it down. Yes, the timing sucks. 3 weeks before the holiday buying rush is a terrible time to stop selling things, but there it is. Sometime in the new year I will start hunting for a Canadian partner who can keep everything truly here. I'm already talking to a few, including Kindred Coast here on Vancouver Island who made this t-shirt. If the store relaunches, it'll probably mean fewer items, fewer colors, Fewer of the fun little things that never really sold anyway but made me feel like a real entrepreneur for 5 minutes. It also means I probably won't be able to ship to the US anymore, which I also don't like because so many Americans have been cheering Canada on from across the line. So if you want to get something before it leaves, pick up a gift for a family member, or if you're in the US and you want one of those "I stand with Canada" things, it'll be open for one more week. Until December 15th at shop.todmaffin.com. There's one more thing: at the end of the year, Jocelyn and I will donate a portion of all sales this store has ever made to the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Foundation. Their work toward Indigenous reconciliation is really important to both of us, and so it feels right to end this chapter by giving something back. Thank you all so much for the feedback. I've asked about what what I should do on social media. I got thousands of comments replying, really good feedback, really good advice. I'm so grateful that you're here. It still shocks me that my dumbass little videos and the national healthcare infusion movement can live side by side, but it feels like we're building something that matters. And I'm really grateful you're a part of it.
