I need you to pass. Oh, I got it.
Hello! Welcome, welcome, welcome. We are just— we thought we were starting, and now what's happening?
I had to pull the envelopes.
Oh, OK, OK. We're good. Just going to do a quick check to make sure that we are live, and then we're going to go part 2. And I'll explain what we are doing here in just a moment. I just have to make sure that this is all working and so on. So we've had a contest for the last month and a half. I sound weird because I have teeth aligners in, by the way. Um, the last month and a half.
Yeah, you sound the same to me.
Which we've asked people to send us the smallest possible trinket from their community in Canada. And this is— we tried to get through all of them a week ago, and we spent 2.5 hours and we got through maybe half, probably less than half.
Hopefully half.
Hopefully half. All right, let's see if this is working. Yep, it's working. Excellent. Oh, I better get the comments in here so we can see what you folks are saying because I failed to do that.
Please, somebody watch us.
Um, that's not what I wanted.
Oh, this one's got multiple envelopes in it.
Yeah, a couple of them are like that. All right, so let's check where— how do I find my own channel?
There it is. My mom's writing.
Okay, and there's comments. All right, excellent. Hello everyone, welcome.
Popcorn Commission.
Uh, hold on.
It's the Popcorn Commission. Is that like a name? Is that a type of popcorn? Jennifer Roney. Oh, are you JL Roney from the Discord? Oh my God, that would be so cool. Who's in Ireland, I think.
Okay, I think we got it. I'm gonna turn up the brightness. There we go. All right. Welcome. Hello, Joe. Welcome, Joe. Joe is a supporter. PJ is in here. PJ is also a supporter of the channel. "I want your t-shirt." Isn't that a great t-shirt? I'm going to put up— so on my link in bio link, there's a link to all—
Trisha asked too.
Asked what?
About your House Hippo shirt. Sorry.
Oh, right.
Please continue.
What was I saying before?
A thing on your page where you can find the t-shirts.
Yeah, you can find my t-shirts on the link in my bio. I have not added this one yet. And what I'm doing is I'm trying to get these companies to give you 10% off. And it— so most of the ones on the website there, like, go to link in my bio and then click on the t-shirt button. Most of the companies there will give you 10% off if you use like the code Tod or something. We get nothing for it. It's not a kickback. It's not an affiliate code. There's no commissions involved. They don't send us any money based on what you buy.
In fact, a lot of them are like fairly expensive because they're trying to get t-shirts that are printed and, and if possible made in Canada. So they're a little bit more expensive.
Momo says, can I still send you something after the contest? Yes.
Oh, that's why there's a—
you can, but it won't be entered into the contest.
This whole thing, um, I dreamed up because I figured to get people to send something, like, nobody wants a PO box that nobody says send something to. So we dreamed it up to, you know, so people know there's a A P.O. box. OK, where's that one from?
And we are starting from Ontario. Ooh. Starting strong. This is from Kate in Dunville, Ontario. Kate says, Kate says, "What a brilliant way to test your reach." Fair. "And connection to our vast, beautiful country. I live in a rural—" That's the cat.
Let me out. Did she learn how to meow? I think so.
I tell ya, the cat's taken over the household. I live in a rural community outside of Crossroads called South Cayuga in a home that used to be a one-bedroom school. My husband and I are retired educators near the small town of Dunville. Haldimand Country, Southern Ontario. That's so cool. I like it. Find where the Grand River empties into Lake Erie. Growing up, charm bracelets— that's this thing here that they sent— Oh! Were the thing for teenage girls. Dunville had two silver charms, one enclosed— one is enclosed and the other is a 3D Harvard. Not envelope appropriate. So I guess too big. Oh, that's beautiful! Oh, that's pretty! The sticker enclosed is a souvenir sticker from the place we parked our trailer for the summer. We thought we were old enough. And oh my gosh! And, uh, for seasonal camping, Sunny Hill Resort, Paradise on Bark Lake. Thank you for the opportunity to share with you. So that's from Kate. Okay, where would you like me to be putting the discards? Okay, so that— oh, in this.
I give you a nice big pile.
I think— should— why don't I just put them in this?
Sure, unless you want them to go in one of the special piles like the awards. Okay, okay. I just— you have to put them back in.
That's really pretty charm, isn't it? New Brunswick.
It is pretty. I kind of like it. New Brunswick! New Brunswick! Nouveau Brunswick! It is— How many have we had? 6 so far. Can you pass the bucket? I'm gonna actually put it behind us and then we can both reach it. Okay.
Hello, Tod, please enjoy—
This does not mean we don't love your letters. It's just the container available.
Please enjoy this pin from Florenceville, Bristol, New Brunswick. This is from Rain, it looks like.
Come on. Oh, that's cute. Is it fries?
It looks like fries. I have to do this to focus it better, like the girls in the makeup influencers.
Yeah, like, here's the lipstick.
There it is. The home of McCain Foods and neighbor to one of— to the world's largest covered bridge.
Oh, we got one from the We got Ariel in the first show from a former BCAer.
Excellent. Thank you. That's a really cool pin. It is. OK, where is it?
It's back here. OK. Hi, Tod.
As a Canadian Australian, can I send Australian stuff? You guys can send whatever you like. But it is past the contest entry, and only Canadian communities were eligible for the prize, which we have not awarded yet because we're still going through things. But a general purpose pin P.O.
box. Send nice things, please.
But yeah, no weapons or bombs or anything, and nothing radioactive, you fucking Saskatchewan freaks. Radioactive. This is from Larry in, I'm going to assume, Flin Flon, because I love Flin Flon, and I love Flin Flon buttons.
Can I wear that one on my jacket?
I love it. Why is this light exactly in the wrong place every time? There we go. Anyway, that's not good. That's not better. That's a little better. I love flim flam. Thank you, Larry. Uh, did you mark that one down as New Brunswick? Yep. It's just flim flam New Brunswick. There's a flim flam in Manitoba, isn't there?
Hang on. No, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Manitoba. It is Manitoba. Sorry, I thought it was NB and it's MB, so it's Manitoba. My bad. Okay. Uh, ooh, this is from just down the road from us. In Duncan. But yes, you're welcome to send, send stuff if you want. Uh, if you click the link in my bio, my address is there.
Where did my knife go?
I don't know. Did you even open this one?
Uh, I thought I did. Maybe I didn't. Yeah, let's get that bun back to me. No, I literally just opened it.
Oh, okay. Andy G in—
where did it go? Oh, there it is. Tottenham, Ontario, it looks like. It's like the English town Tottenham Hotspurs. It's a football team. Thank you for that. Um, so— oh, sorry, who was that from? Uh, you say where it's from?
Yeah, I did. Tottenham, Ontario. Ontario. Yeah. All right, and this is another Ontario, so two of them Ontario's. This is from Marilyn Laurie. And by the way, if you're in the chat, please say hello when we, when we, uh, pull your thing.
Jennifer Roney, that's so cool! I just saw your reply. Very cool to have people from the Discord.
Marilyn has sent— not only has Marilyn sent a pin of her community from Belleville, The Bay of Quint, but has also for some reason photocopied it in color and then sent us the photocopy of the pin.
That just should cover all the bases, just in case.
So thank you, Marilyn.
We've got Dee from Discord. Who else do we have from Discord? I think Momo's in Discord as well. It's Canadian Australian, can I send? Oh yeah, yeah, I see that one.
Make this an annual contest.
Make it an annual. Yeah, you guys are ambitious.
It's not a bad idea.
Um, Tod is very easy to persuade to do big things more often.
This is from Timmins, Ontario. Ontario, Ontario. Oh, it's cool. This could come from here. It is also a key ring. Oh, I like the color.
And it is— it's like my shirt color.
Abe. Bear. It's cute, I love it.
We're going to put all of the keyrings on the Christmas tree this year, I think.
Oh, DC Weasel! Oh, hey DC Weasel! And Deanna's in here. Hi Deanna! Oh, Sandra!
Why do I keep—
thank you Marlene from Timmins, Ontario for that one.
Um, yeah, people have I have trouble with the concept of letter mail.
Letter size envelope. How thick is this? Ontario.
This one. Oh, for that one, okay. I have a thing I got 3D printed and it's the Slot of Doom and it's basically the thing that measures if your letter is too thick for letter mail because I kept getting to the drugstore and my letter mail didn't go through the letter slot. So I should bring it out. We could test. All of you. Hamilton, Ontario. Ontario. Ontario. Ontario. Ontario. Geez, turning into like Ontario.
They are the biggest province, so, uh, doesn't matter. I like it already.
I think you pronounce the E at the end of the Bay of Quinte. Quinte. Quinte.
Oh yo, we have our— we have our first official bribe. We have our first official bribe. They literally sent money.
Oh no. Friends, no! Uh, I love the frog. Do you know how easy it is to— oh, cute— how to persuade Tod to do weird shit? I mean, stuff. Sorry, it's really easy, so you don't need to send money.
Hello Tod, this is buy Tod a coffee money. Thank you. Aww, I'm an old-fashioned girl, 76 years old, and I attempt to not do money stuff online. I've already subscribed to your newsletter, and then she's put her email address. Um, I just want you to know I appreciate— this $10 was legitimately earned. On my morning's walk, just as the sun is getting up, I pick up discarded beer cans en route to recycle. Well, walk, bend, stoop, stand up, repeat. It's good for my osteoporosis, as is stomping the cans before bagging and recycling. Here in Ontario, we haven't worked out yet with the population how to treat our aluminum cans. Thank you very much for this. I love the frog thing, and I— the frog's really cool. I'm not going to complain about the money. Not bribable, but I appreciate it because I do have like a Buy Todd a Coffee site for people if they feel like they want to contribute.
But I get that not everyone wants to pay. Not everyone wants to. Donate with a credit card.
And people— credit cards are weird online, so thank you for that. Oh, I better put that aside. That is going to fund— That is going directly to fund my Cheezies habit, by the way.
Or maybe your super secret project.
No, this could be cheesies.
Um, all right, this is something that cheesies have that is going to give you a heart attack. Manitoba. Wait, when did I become that wife? I take it out there.
Um, can you do this one? I have to respond to an E&M thing really quickly.
Oh, okay. Tod is also working. I'm also at work. Jennifer Roney, most rock stars give out bling. You set this up so that we send you bling. Now you're working on yearly bling showers. Brilliant! Love it, love it. Okay, hello from Dauphin. Do— Dauphin. Dauphin, I think it's— yeah, that's an old word. We are a small town of about 8,400 people located in Manitoba's parkland. Manitoba, yeah, just north of Riding Mountain National Park. And in MB, it counts as a mountain We'll, we'll allow it. Uh, we have lived all over Canada. My husband and I met in Winnipeg about 25 years ago. His subsequent career with the RCMP led us to move to Lewisport, Newfoundland, then Yellowknife, then the lower mainland of BC— that's where we're from— before coming back to Manitoba. I better— no problem, Momo. No, not to worry. Um, oh my gosh, how cute! A membership card to the Beaver Fan Club. Oh, we got a patch! I love a patch. Oh my God, I gotta do that thing. The Beaver in Dauphin was built in 1967 by Ross Owen of Thunder Bay, Ontario, to commemorate Canada's centennial. Located in the south end of town, the Beaver was nicknamed Amisk, which means beaver in the Cree Indigenous language. He's 16 feet high and 6 feet wide, wearing a letter D sweater, uh, for dolphin, I guess, gloves and blue jeans, lifting its left hand and holding a red cap. It has been blessed with a mustache upon several occasions thanks to some determined straight spray paint Picassos. I like that. And it's got a button with the beaver on it too.
I'm keeping the membership card in my wallet.
I love it. It's really cool. I put that—
where did the envelope that could just come from?
Uh, dolphin, that's this one. Okey-doke.
Definitely, I love the button and the patch. Duncan, BC. Duncan, also just down the road from us.
Okay, where BC? Oh, I forgot where Duncan was for a minute.
Uh, this is from Kathy in Duncan. This is a, uh, it's, it's a wooden coin. For the world's largest hockey stick. And this is a collectible. This is a— it's got like a special code on it and a, and a thing. So this is like—
that could go on the tree too. It's got a circle in the middle. Is that a circle?
Oh, this is actually—
oh wait, that's original.
Original and authentic pieces of the world's largest hockey stick and puck built in Penticton for Expo 86 in Vancouver. Residing in Duncan until 2024.
Oh, that was the hockey— hockey stick. Yeah, it was built in Penticton. I thought it was a little coin.
The stick continues to hold the current Guinness Book of World Records as to the manufacturer of this item. Well, where is it now if it left in 2024? It's in Duncan.
No, it is no longer the longest stick. No, no, they— I remember there was a—
they voted for it. Residing in Duncan until 2024. The stick continues to hold the Guinness World Records.
I remember the article about the stick and they agreed to keep it, but they weren't going to keep it up anymore, I think. Duncan World's Longest Hockey Stick.
Cool, thank you.
I'm Googling. Oh, it was dismantled due to disrepair. The stick was dismantled in 2024 and being sold as collectible souvenirs. Oh, I see.
Okay, so they took it down and they cut it up into little pieces.
I remember it was a concern because it needed upkeep and it got really expensive, like $1.5 mil or something.
Is that worth a shortlist, do you think? Yeah. That's shortlisted. Congratulations. You are on the shortlist for the grand prize. Thank you. Because that's pretty cool. You know what? My friend Joey Taylor has got his— a former CBC radio host— built this car— this car— built this guitar. Made of all sorts of parts of Canadiana, made from famous trees and metal from the Bluenose and a piece of copper from the House of Commons. And anyway, it's just— if you look, it's called the Six String Guitar Project.
Uh, oh, I remember you told me about that. Um, someone named Jay said, Tod, just letting you know that we recently acquired a full-time RN in our emergency department in Port Alberni, and she's from Texas. That's fantastic. Welcome to your nurse. Way to go to your community. And it shows that the healthcare worker recruitment that Island Health is doing that we're kind of trying to help out with, um, it's working. Yeah, that's exciting. One of these days we'll be fully staffed, maybe. Okay, sorry, I opened one. Hi Tod, search as I might, I couldn't find any souvenir from my hometown regardless of size, but I came across these two in my own drawers and not for the contest, but I thought you might find them interesting. My mom was from the East Coast, so my explain— there was nothing in the envelope and I just opened it. So maybe— well, I'm sorry, we've had a couple empty ones. Maybe it fell out and we'll find it at the end. Yeah, let's put that aside. I'm so sorry that I, I truly feel badly about it.
Okay, hang on, I think let's just have one.
I just opened everything in this pile.
All right, let's not— maybe we're, maybe we're bring it up that way. Oh, this is tiny. Uh, this is Ontario. Ontario. Ontario. Jody from Aurora, Ontario. And it is a pin. It is an Aurora, Ontario pin.
It is tiny.
Vernas. It is very tiny, isn't it? And then the back was removed for safety. It's says. Oh, I dig the— I dig the postage stamps.
Yeah, Margaret Atwood. Oh no, that was a different one. These ones were Margaret Atwood.
Oh, oh yeah, let's see.
Yeah, I didn't know she had— boy, is her stuff ever starting to come true. Jeez. Huh. I take it that's really cool.
Thanks.
In the sad incomplete bin.
And this one is just flowers. We're gonna do a stamp review now too. Uh, Powell River, BC. Oh yay, BC! This is from T— is their first name.
So tell the people, where is Powell River?
Powell River is on the coast, the west coast of the mainland of BC, but you have to get there by ferry— by several ferries actually. You have to get there by Well, from here it would be 3, wouldn't it? Mm, from here it would be 3, yeah. But from the mainland, you'd go Horseshoe Bay to Langdale, and then you would drive up the lower Sunshine Coast to Edgemont, and then you'd take another ferry to Powell River. You guys—
oh, oh, oh, I'll let him out.
Yeah, I think he just wants out. So that's from Tara. Thank you, Tara. Animals! That's a great idea, actually. An advice— a fishing hat. This is a great idea. A what? A fishing hat. All right, this is from Clinton, Ontario, and it's a Meganatha. It's from B— oh, it's from Bonnie and Mike in Clinton, Ontario. No, All right, from their car show, the Hot Rod Car Show.
Nice.
Thank you, thank you. Recent. It looks like it's metal, but I don't think it's actually metal in there. That is recent.
Yeah, this is letter mail.
Really? Well, it's letter mail, it's just not letter size envelope. Um, Ontario. Oh, really? Look at that, good lettering.
Make sure I don't put their address on. Is that from your mom? She does lettering like that.
Stamp check, stamp check, stamp check. The hell is that? What is it? Is that a snowmobile in the prairies? I was about to say it was a whale.
That's even weirder. No, that looks like a river.
Oh, it is a river. Oh yeah, you're right. A bendy river. Ontario, Ontario, Ontario. This is from Exeter, Ontario, from Alicia. I like it already. Oh, oh, this is a multiple, multiple entry. All right, so Exeter, Ontario. First of all, we got that little guy followed by another postcard with that little guy. I like it.
Did you get two squirrel postcards?
Yeah, I'm putting them in the winner's circle there. I hope you can accept my entry for Canada's Biggest, Smallest Contest if it's a tad late. I just found out about it. It takes a while to go from Ontario to BC. It made it, I guess.
The same amount of time to go from Vancouver to the island as it does to go from out of province to the island.
It's all white squirrels. It is the white squirrel capital of Canada.
Oh cool, I like the tie-in.
We have the most prominent population of them in the country. Many tourists come— many tourists— I just showed that. Okay, come to visit and catch a glimpse of this unique and beautiful creature. The local government, VIA, and many businesses have adopted it as their symbol, and the 2026 White Squirrel calendar is being released soon. Check out— okay, so if you want more information on it, it's stopalongtheway.ca/home-to-the-white-squirrel, and there's hyphens in between each of those words. So stopalongtheway.ca/home-to-the-white-squirrel to Learn more. Elbows Up. Excellent, thank you. Says Elbows Up and their mascot is a squirrel. Do squirrels even have elbows? That's a dinosaur. No, little grabby hands. That's true. All right, excellent, thank you.
Mocking my squirrel act.
Tiny bit. Okay, thank you. Ontario again. Good God, Ontario, slow down. Oh, thank you, Jay. You didn't have to do that. What'd Jay do?
Oh, Jay. Okay, this is—
ooh. Oh, cool. Oh, this got some interesting history to it.
So from Nanaimo, you can drive up to Comox and then take the ferry straight across to Powell River.
I didn't know that. I forgot about that.
Or maybe I did. I don't know.
Okay, this is a very long letter, and I, and I, I feel like we shouldn't read it, but this is a very special rock It is— oh, this is from Bethany. Bethany is the curator of the Canadian Forces Museum of Aerospace at CFB North Bay. CFB North Bay. That's cool. A rock. North Bay had been the famous NORAD underground complex. Oh my god, is it a moon rock? And this is a— no, it's a rock from that actual place.
Ooh, it looks like it's from a core, like a rock, dirt core, soil core.
I get our supply from some increasingly confused engineers who periodically go down for maintenance. They give me a bucket of rocks that have either been sealed off from the sides of the cavern or tunnels, and I take a hammer to turn them into smaller rocks. Then we put them in cute bags for souvenirs. People love rocks. What a great idea! That is a great idea, and it comes with the—
that kind of reminds me of Fallout 76. Wouldn't it be amazing if you could invent a souvenir for your camp in Fallout 76? That would be amazing.
And then, what I like is it's a fairly long letter and then it ends with, "Anyway, here's a rock." Oh, it's even got more, like an addendum. No, no problem. It's fine. I think she's worried that it doesn't actually say the community name on it, but We'll let it slide, 'cause that's cool. We have a— we like rocks.
I love the roller derby conversation in the chat. I have always wanted to do roller derby. That is my jam. Dressing up, wearing a helmet, and kicking the snot out of someone. And they don't make wheelchair derby. That would be painful, I would think, for the non-wheelchair people. Thank you, Demon.
Thank you very much.
Ontario loves you, Tod!
Okay, this is Ontario again.
Uh, sorry, you can't stay, Sue. We see you. Whoa, wow.
Okay, from Sandy in Smith Falls, Ontario. What a beautiful card. It is beautiful. And it is— I'm going to put it in the thing. It is— look at this, guys— it is the history of Smith Falls. It's a little book, isn't And it is a book.
Oh, a real book!
Wait, there's no way. Hang on a second, hang on a second.
Well, this is a magnifying glass, remember? Oh yeah, right.
Sorry, hang on.
That's cool. That's gonna go in the— the shortlist. This one, shortlist.
It is, it actually—
oh my God, that's so cool! I think there's another book in the shortlist too, but I don't know that it was like printed that way.
Holy moly. That's crazy. Look at this.
That is a feat.
That is a feat and a half. And this is leather, by the way. The COVID is legitimately leather. The book's pretty— it's definitely a contender. It's definitely shortlisted. I have to find out if what's in here is Wow. Oh dear. Oh yeah, we, we shortlist this. Okay, congratulations Sandy, you're on the shortlist. That's a— that is definitely a contender. Where's the shortlist pile?
It's this one, this red one. This—
you have to read that, it's cute— is from Almonte, Ontario. "Sorry I had to tape it. I amended my letter and I didn't want to waste the great stamp." There are some really cool stamps here.
Oh, that is a cool stamp. I would love that as a t-shirt. Yeah.
That is a great stamp. So the book was— there were words that were legible. I could read some words. There were some words that were not quite legible. But it's not just lorem ipsum. It's real English words in there. Okay, this is not an entry. Hopefully you've received my entry right now. I think this might be more of a personal letter.
Oh wow, that's like on fancy paper and carefully typed, laid out with a photo and everything.
Okay, so that's from Ontario again. Several weeks ago, I found a Facebook post by the youngest daughter of my best friend Julie. Julie and I met across the pond 60 years ago. Um, Julie's youngest daughter Catherine was born in Nanaimo and still lives there with her husband Sean and their baby boy. No, no, no. Sean has a rare kidney disease. He's received 2 donor kidneys before, the second from his mother, but now needs another. They are seeking a living donor. I've made a poster excerpted from Catherine's Facebook push— post. I have her permission to share with you. I feel pushy even for asking, but I feel a desperate need to help out in any way that I can get the word out. You have a big following. Is there any way you could help? For sure. So, um, this is it. It's not— it's going to be obviously hard. I'll give you the website address that's in here. Um, oh, Demon, thank you for joining the, the Todd Squad. Um, so it is— I don't know if I can see a specific link. It's right here. That's just read more about the disease.
Oh, this is the match. This one, you're supposed to email that person.
Supposed to email that person. Okay, so that's the— if you want to donate a kidney or you know someone who'd be willing to be a living donor for This fine person here with a new baby, um, email the St. Paul's Hospital donor team. The contact is Sean Bamford and their email address is donornurse@providencehealth.bc.ca.
Oh, that's our St. Paul's. Oh, interesting. Um, I just opened this, remember it had to be prepared. This one, there's a letter right there, this right in there. Yeah, okay.
This one, this one I already know. I already want a shortlist. So, um, this is from Montreal, right? Montreal. Yeah, from Nicola. Nicola built— I'm gonna slide it into the frame here— a 3D box that lights up. This is lit, this is lit from the inside. It's 3D printed, I think.
Yeah. And we put it together, like, but when we first got it, it just needed to be like, have the little lights turned on. Isn't that cool? And it's got some kind of like ink on the inside that makes the colors. So neat.
Sandra, thank you for joining. Thank you, Demon and Sandra.
Thank you so much. Thank you so much.
You will be getting— by the way, if you're, if you're on the Todd Squad and you're one of these, what you see people joining as supporters, You get a bonus essay most Wednesdays, and most Fridays you get a special behind-the-scenes video about, like, our personal life and what's going on with us and all sorts of stuff that we never talk about publicly. And those people get that if you're a member. This is cool. Did we shortlist this one?
Yeah, for sure. Esther, you mentioned me, but I don't think I know what you were mentioning. Can you say it again? It says, "Esther M. Iona, is that right, Jocelyn? Just to have it in the thread here." I'm not sure what you mean. Um, but I'm here.
"Nicola is my husband." Oh, okay, cool. Oh my gosh, I hope I didn't— I hope I didn't say she.
Oh wait, there's a letter that comes with this. Where did the letter go?
The spouse of the person who did this. Yeah! That's so great! It's really cool. We opened it actually a couple of weeks ago because you sent it a while ago. And you put it together, right? I did. And it was the coolest thing. And is the coolest thing. So it shortlisted.
I don't want to lose the letter, so I'm just going to put it there for a sec.
Pender Island, BC. Go above Sandra's box. I put the email address in the thread. It may have deleted it because we do not see it. So sometimes if you add, like, if you put email addresses in In—
I think she means this box. Uh, oh yeah, I don't see anything like that.
Sorry. Okay, Joanne from Pender Island, BC. Beautiful place. Oh, isn't that interesting? It's a wasp, so blah, but then followed by, by like a really neat drawing of the wasp. Makes it look a hell of a lot friendlier than it actually is.
I spent a couple of summer vacations there because my dad was doing skipper charters. And there's— oh, Otter Bay on Pender Island was just a beautiful place to be.
Do you know Pender Island's actually two islands? Yeah, north and south. But two separate islands. Yeah. Yeah.
And at low tide, they're one. And sometimes you can get trapped.
I totally knew that before reading the first line that says it is actually two islands connected by a single wooden— single-lane wooden bridge. A First Nations sandstone carving was found here dating back 5,000 years. Deez bah! We do not have a single traffic light on the island. When someone says they're going to town, that means they're taking the ferry to Victoria. Oh really? If you see traffic backed up on Pender, it usually means someone's pigs or sheep have escaped and are in the middle of the road. Power outages are common here. Yeah, that's true.
There is a gorgeous bookstore, if I remember correctly, on Pender. I really enjoyed it.
Uh, we can grow olives and lemons. That's cool. Um, at first I thought it would be funny to send the tiniest thing I could find in the tiniest envelope I could find. That would have been actually interesting. Then I realized what's better than that is supporting local artists. This card—
oh, that's so cute—
this card is made by Matt Adolf, a local fellow on this tiny rock we live on. Linocut maybe. Not only is he an artist, he also manages one of the two grocery stores on this island, hosts a movie theater in his basement as we don't have a movie theater here, and has a hot dog and snow cone stand at the community events held. The neat thing about Pender Island, there's so much potential to be creative. Everyone has a story and they are so multi-talented. This magnet was bought at our pharmacy, which also doubles as a department store. Yes, you can find just about anything in there.
How much you want to bet that's a PharmaSave?
Uh, this magnet was, uh, you can— the artist is Sue Coleman. That's very cool. That is really cool. Thank you. That's going on our fridge if that's okay. I like that. Yeah, that's really cool.
Oh boy, oh boy, this fell out of something. We are not gonna— if we do this again, we are not opening anything until after.
Have you been writing the provinces? Yes. Okay, Ontario.
Because there are unfortunately little doodads that I keep finding.
It's a bingo card. It says, I love that she's wrote it upside down. I love the competition. This is a bingo card with activities and stores that one can visit here.
I think we got another Merrickville one, um, the last time we opened.
Merrickville has loads of products made in Merrickville. Purses at Bowman Leather, caramels at pickles in her, mustard at Mrs. McGarage's, and puzzles at the occurrence. Maybe a competition with products from Canada from other communities. I don't actually live in, in Marinville, but I sit on the library board for my small township. This is from Olivia. Olivia. Catherine, you missed some stuff. You missed some pretty cool things. But we're gonna have— we're gonna be doing a round where we review the, um, everybody tell Katherine what they think she missed. Yeah, wrong answers only. All right, this is PEI.
Oh wow, we, we have not had a PEI one yet, haven't we?
Oh wow, our first PEI. Oh wow, is from— this is from Karen W. "Antigonish." Antigonish. You're gonna like that one. Okay. I think. "I've been enjoying your web spots daily." Have I been doing them daily? Damn. "I'm actually from Massachusetts, but—" Fine, we'll allow it. We like Mass—
We like Massachusetts.
"But have strong ties to Tignish. Anglo-Tignish." Oh, wait a minute. It's different. It's not Antigonish. Anglo-Tignish. "Since I was 12, my heart is always here year round." "Since retirement in 2013, my husband and I spend months at our cottage. Love, Canada." And this is from Tignish, PEI. And it is a— Daemon! Daemon, thank you so much! Wow! Awesome! What the heck? A whole bunch of people are receiving gift memberships. Thank you. Thank you, Daemon. That is so generous of you.
That is the nicest Way to give someone money.
I hope that some of you in— oh, thank you, Demon. I hope that some of you are in here that got that. What that means is if the system randomly— Demon just donated a bunch of money in the form of gift memberships. And then YouTube picks people, and if it landed on you, then you got a free month of the Tod Squad, which will get you behind-the-scenes videos and a bonus essay most Wednesdays.. And we're doing a live Hangout session with me and everyone. Anyway, thank you, Demon.
Kat, it actually says Ang-lo-nish.
Ang— Tignish. Anglo-Tignish. Hang on. Let me cover that.
So it's possible it's a joke about the name Antigonish, but that's not Antigonish. So I don't know. We're only reading what we know. Sandra, I love that wrong answer.
Perfect. Anglo-Tignish, it says.
It's not antiquitisch. Whoever crazy person out there sent us this one, and it's freaking taped within an inch of its life.
You hate the tapes. Oh no, Susan.
Yes, it's okay, you can go back and watch it again.
Yeah, if you want. Yeah, if you just arrived, you can actually just drag the bar to the beginning live right now and, and keep and watch from the beginning. And then you can put it on— "Love that hair color." Thank you so much. Thank you so much. I've got— I've added a little bit— yeah, a little bit of gray. I put some gray coloring in to make it look like I have gray hair, which of course I don't because I'm 28 years old.
The fact that there's so many nurses in the chat, I feel very secure that when I finally stab myself with this knife from opening your letters, I will have help.
BC, BC. Creston. This is from Creston. I used to work in Creston. This is from Diane in Creston. The Gleaners is a thrift, thrift shop and food bank, is known across the country as one of the most successful food banks in Canada.
They're the ones that offer that service where they'll come and take the fruit from your tree and leave you a third of it and take the third of it to give away is to the food bank. The one—
What happens to the other third?
Um, I don't know, maybe they sell it. I know one, they— one third they leave with the property owner. Yeah. And they take the rest. I don't know, maybe they keep it for the volunteer who takes the fruit off the tree.
My very first job in radio was in Creston, and I was the, uh, on Monday to Friday I was the reporter in Creston, Creston and East.. And then Saturday and Sunday, alternating Saturdays and Sundays, I was the KBS Coca-Cola Kootenai Cruiser chick. So I'd drive to Trail, which is harrowing in the wintertime, and pick up the KBS Coca-Cola Kootenai Cruiser. And I would take it around to, like, bonspiels and science fairs and things. And the day I quit was the day that they made me do a remote at Comfort Welding. I don't know if Comfort Welding is still there. It's probably not. First of all, who names a store Comfort Welding?
Those words don't go together. No.
Super nice people though. The owners were really sweet, um, and I like— I liked it. It's just like, it was like January, mid-January. I was cold. It was my first, you know— I like the bleach blonde. Diana, we're never speaking of that again, you understand? If you don't know what that's about, today the CBC put out on its like social media channels, one of those like retro video clips. Oh, Trish, welcome! Thank you!
Oh yeah, and that as well. And Czech Advice Mom. Oh!
A radio DJ at KLZR 91.5 in Westcliffe, Colorado.
How did you never end up in commercial radio?
I was in commercial radio. I was at KBS.
Well, I guess so, but you weren't the guy that was like— KBS. KBS, Kuni Cruiser.
I was that guy on weekends, and then alternating weekends, and then I was also the news anchor on the other weekends.. So I would drive to— this is slave labor. Well, it's not slave labor, but it was awful. So Friday afternoon, after my full day of being a reporter shift in Creston, I would drive across ice, over the summit, over into Trail. They put me up at the— in Castle— Castleview? Castle— Castlegar. They put me up in Castlegar, which is right beside Trail. Trail is the next-door is next door to it. Trail is where the network was, which is the radio station I worked at. And I would go there. I would drive there to the Dairy Queen in Castlegar. I would get, like, just 3 triple burgers in the car. I'd drive to the— wherever they put me up, Holiday Inn. It wasn't even a Holiday Inn. It was whatever. I would eat them. I'd go to sleep at around 5:00 in the afternoon or 6:00 in the afternoon. I'd get up at 2:30 because I had to be in the studio and on air at 4:00 in the morning. Because there was the farm report to do. You like the Huxtable? That's a good shirt. Trish, thank you for joining as a member as well. I'm really glad. Look at these members.
OK. I just wanted to ask, uh, where's her name? Susan. Tell us where you're from, Susan, your province or country or whatever. And we might be able to tell you whether we've opened yours yet or not.
KLZR 91.5. What's your tagline? Every radio station's got a stupid tagline, right? The heart of the Muskokas. Uh, okay, so this is Burlington, Ontario. Ontario. I got that one. You got it? Okay. Oh, you're writing them down before you give them to me?
Well, just— I was waiting for you to get to it.
This is, this is from Elizabeth in Burlington, Ontario, and there's a lot. There's a lot. So first of all, there's a card. It says says some, some gifts you hold in your hand. Very cute. The voice of the Wet Mountain Valley. Wet—
West Mountain. Wet Mountain. West Mountain. West.
KLZR. See, I even say a Z the way that they do, because that's— because it's American. KL— they wouldn't say KLZR. Do we know that?
Wet— oh, Nova Scotia. My hint would be pumpkin time. I don't think we've done that one, Susan, so Maybe tonight.
Oh cool, I think this is a t-shirt.
There's another one, I think it might be two-sided.
I saw another one. Yeah, there's another thing. So I think it's a t-shirt iron-on. Very cool. For the car, maybe, maybe reflective sheeting. So yeah, maybe the car. Very cool. This is going on our car. Oh yeah, it is, because it's got one of the little— it's got a little scrapers. Tongue depressors.
Hey, did you just put it in your mouth? On my tongue.
And then a— and then an elbows up.
That's the one I saw.
These are going on our car. Thank you for that. Okay, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Careful, careful. Oh no, this—
wait, no, they were there before.
Okay, these were in this one.
Yeah, this is a new one.
Okay. KLZR. I would love to be a DJ for a town of 600. There's a great— in the morning, there's a great Canadian horror, independent horror movie called— it's like, it's like Poontown or something like that. It's like— what's, what's it called? Hang on, I'll look it up.
That sounds a little NSFW.
Uh, yeah, I don't mean it to be like that. Hang on. Oh, I see. What is the independent Canadian film about? It's a horror movie and it's about the English language infecting everyone as a language virus.
I think the premise is so interesting though.
I love that. So yeah, it's Pontypool. It's called Pontypool. Oh, that's the name of the town, isn't it? It's a horror movie directed by Bruce McDonald, who used to be in Kids in the Hall.
Yeah, I, I— a face pops into my head when I hear that name. I know them.
And Pontypool is about a radio station in Canada, kind of in the north, I think. And there's a virus that is going around turning everyone into zombies. And the radio station is trying to report on it. And zombies are trying to get into the radio station. But then what they realize is that the radio station itself is spreading the zombies, making other people go zombie-like, because the infection is in the language.
Do you want to go into a box?
Like, how Canadian a horror film is that? The infection is in the language itself. Yeah. And— Do you remember KBHR Northern Exposure? I never watched Northern Exposure.
It's so good, and it's Chris in the morning, and I love— Does anyone know where you can watch that show now? Because I miss it.
This is from Sussex, New Brunswick. It's from Melanie, who actually might be in Piccadilly, New Brunswick. The Atlantic Balloon Fiesta first started in 1985. Cute!
Love the colors.
I love the colors too. Excellent. Thank you for that. The— oh, it even came from the Atlantic Balloon Fiesta.
Oh, someone's the organizer.
Someone is the executive director. Thank you, Melanie. That's cool. That is also good.
And our fridge is gonna be every nonprofit, I swear to you, filled with a big pile of old branded envelopes. Here's that, uh, stamp again. Oh, the, the curve in the river.
Excuse me.
Are we getting some, um, for wildfire smoke?
Because I feel it too. Maybe. Okay, can you slow down on the openings? Okay, I wanna, I wanna like— thank you. It's too much of a pile, it's stressing me out.
That's enough slices.
Enough slices. This is from Esquimalt. Squamalt, BC, which is on Vancouver Island. Hi Tod, I live in Squamalt. I wasn't able to find any souvenirs with Squamalt written on them, but I was able to find a sticker from the Gorge Waterway Nature House, which is in Squamalt. It's gorgeous, beautiful. It's part of the migration bird sanctuary in the Capital Regional District. Look forward to seeing all the fun things people send in. Are you here? And it is a pamphlet.
Of—
oh cool, bird sanctuaries are a real big deal up here. If you're like thinking of moving here, if you like birds, man, come to Canada.
We kind of have one in the marsh, the— what's it called? The— that has a weird name. Cassia. Remember the name of the— Butchertubs. Butchertubs Marsh is a big birding location. In— because we had a pirate for a mayor, and he let his, like, primary school-aged child name the streets and the many of the things.
Can you guys hear us? Someone just said sound with a question mark. Are we audible? I just want to make sure that we're not muted somehow. Stamp check, stamp check. There we go.
Oh, that's cool. That one is so thick. Can you hear us? Uh-oh.
Oh yeah, they can hear because they're trying to Twiggle Wiggle Road. Yeah, okay, okay. All right, so this is from—
said I can hear you just fine.
Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia. Thank you.
Can I, can I please say, who the heck are you? This is not letter-sized.
Uh, Mar McKay. Oh, sorry, Mar. I'm trying not to do last name. Anyway, Mar in— I've forgotten already. In Pictou. Good grief. Oh, we have another tartan. Tartans are almost all of them.
I would dare to say, is Pictou Nova Scotia? Oh, yeah. Trenton, Nova Scotia. All right.
So. Good grief. All right. So I think this cover— it's a playbook, but there's a bunch of stuff, including A beautiful tartan. This is not the first tartan, by the way, that we've received.
It's nice though. I like it.
I really like it.
Blue and yellow, good combo. The tape, you guys. Jeepers.
And then we have the ship Hector from Piktu. This is a magnet. And then we have lots of postcards. We have Fiddler, of course. We have the Fiddler. This person's taped stuff together. This is a thing.
Wow. They're like, "We really want to make sure that you look at it in the right order." The Art Society, Birthplace of New Scotland.
And this— is this more? This flips up and there's more. I'm sorry if you're here and I'm not showing all of it. But it's just occurred to me now that these are tiny little books. The McCullough House escape room has arrived.
Oh, and a little sign, a little decor, this thing.
And oh, and this is like— good girl, bring it! You can bring it here. And this is a— bring it! This is actually really cute. It's a starfish and it's wood and for some reason mounted on sandpaper. Bring it here! That is a stuffed envelope. Thank you. That is a whole lot. The, the, um, if that's a magnet— if it's not a magnet, the starfish will put a magnet on it, and we are going to put it on our fridge. All of this contest is really just a thinly disguised attempt for us to decorate our fridge. Thank you for falling for it. I don't know why I'm— I love the tartans. It's— that's a lot.
There's something special about it.
Yeah. Hey, I might need you to fix that. Yeah. Whoa. Oh, it's so hard. Okay, picto, picto. Thank you. Yeah, it's gonna be covered for sure. Rob Morrow from Northern Exposure is doing a podcast rewatching comedy on the show. Oh cool, really?
Oh, I would love rewatch podcast. Did anyone see The West Wing? Uh, I forgot the name of the podcast now, but it was a rewatch of The West Wing with, um, the actor who played the JAG, the Judge Advocate General lawyer guy.
You— are you writing these down as you're opening that?
No, you gotta tell me what they're at.
Oh, I thought I was—
no, I had Nova Scotia. What's this one?
I'm looking.
Bonjour. Is it from Quebec? Bonjour.
Yeah, I'm gonna assume Quebec because it's all— Um, hang on, let me first show you the pin. Oh, this is, this is small.
Quebec, we got 5. This is small. Ontario's at like 40. Good grief. Oh goodness, that mayhem one. Although we got a piece of glass from someone else.
That is awfully tiny.
Yeah, we— the piece of glass I think was smaller.
All right, let me see if I can do my best with the translation because it's in French. Oh dear. Greetings Yep, that's all I got. Greetings. This pin is a small— is from my small town.
I have sent you this pin from my—
I sent you this pin from my small town after— Eilmer. It is after the combination of the, of the municipalities in— and then the name of the community. I love— possibly it says your, your humor. And then this part I know. It says you're extremely handsome and your wife is a very lucky woman. I know that sentence in French, so I was able to say that.
C'est important nos relations Canada and EU. I don't know if that's telling us we should start doing it about the EU.
It's been a long time since I went through grade 3.
It said Aylmer, though, and it said the amalgamation of Aylmer and Ottawa. Does that make sense? Is this an Ottawa letter?
Sandra, you're right. I would love to do a Lost rewatch podcast.
I'm sure it exists. Thanks, Sandra. Thank you so much. I made her watch the entire series when we were dating. I gotta say, I did cry my eyeballs out on Lost.
At the ending, right?
And I had no idea what was happening. BC.
Thank you. BC. This is from Lillooet. Where's your toy? This is from Mrs. Honsmeyer. I'm hoping we have Mrs. Hansmeyer's actual name.
Maybe it's just Hans. Maybe it's not Mrs.
Resident of Lillooet. I've met Ma Murray. This is not the first Ma Murray thing we received. So this is a— is there any chance that we've been doing duplicating?
No. Okay, these are coming right out of the thing. But we did— the, the error we committed here, which is what's causing us some problems with open letters, is that we opened some of them before the date and then they went back in the bin to be opened again for on the live, and it has resulted in a few lost mishaps. Sadly.
So Ma Murray, who is a, like, a famous person from the town— oh yeah, no spoilers, no spoilers. It's beautiful. People hate the ending. I love the ending. It's— I think it's one of the best written TV shows that's ever been produced.
I gotta say, the first, like, 4 seasons were very good, maybe even more than that, um, but I didn't understand the last 2.
So this person—
And I wasn't just showing off for Tod when we were dating. I did cry.
This person has asked for this back. What? So, which we actually had in the rules that we are not returning that. But I— it's only one so far. Oh, friends, really? So we will send it back. Two. Someone else also sent a stamp.
Someone else sent you a self-addressed stamped envelope, but I can't I can't tell why.
So this— well, that's why. So this is nothing to be— this is— don't put it in a big pile. That's the— I'm gonna mail it back to them. I'll put this back there, actually. Yeah. Uh, this is from Winnipeg. Hey, here, the Maffin family. Tiny envelope. Churro. Tiny envelope. I'm liking this. Where's part 1? It's on— it's on my YouTube channel as well. It's somewhere on my channel. It's from, it's from a week ago. This is Winnipeg. Okay, ready? And this is— this is what it is, and I will give you the explanation shortly. Oh, a nice bear.
Ready, ready, ready?
Go! I dig the very, very tiny—
oh, that's neat. So it's like a fabric card.
Cute little— I like it. "To my favorite couple in Canada." Aww. "I'm aware this pin might not qualify me for the contest. Plus, you'll probably get lots of stuff with Winnipeg on it." Not really. "I figured—" This is Willow, by the way, in Winnipeg. "I figured a KeyCon pin might be of interest. This past May long weekend, I was co-chair of our sci-fi convention." Ooh. Sci-fi. I made this style pin for our hospitality team." Mortality Sweet Treasure Hunt. If you happen to be in Winnipeg next year, we'd love to have you join us. Nerdy fun at KeyCon. I love nerdy fun. Just our— that's our jam.
KeyCon. Okay, okay, I dig it. Look, it's almost like Portal, the little like— yeah, I dig it.
And I went to a— extra points for the tiny envelope, by the way.
Yes, we went to a a con in Victoria just before we moved to the island, and it was, it was really good. I learned to do nalbinding, which is a kind of fiber art done by the, um, Vikings. Look at me. And it requires one blunt needle at about that long, and then you do this kind of figure 8 thing, and it creates, um, a a thick thread that you kind of go around and around, around in a circle. It was very cool. And ironic though too, it's— it was like a sci-fi convention, and this was the Society for Creative Anachronism, which is all about stuff done back in the day, you know, anachronisms. I love the irony. It was delicious. Follow me, I'm delicious.
Follow me, I'm I'm delicious. I love that guy. I love it because half of them, he's just— his name, what's his name? Garrett. He's a TikToker and he's an Irish guy and he's so funny. He always gets mad at the stupidest things. He'll be like, another fucking crepe paper! They always give us the crepe paper this time of year. Follow me, I'm delicious. Yeah, sorry about that if you're on your Oof, that was loud. OK. This is— we're going to pick up the pace. Ow. We're going to pick up the pace here. Hello, Jen. Welcome. Thank you. This is from Victoria, BC, down the road from us.
And— You ready? Are you ready?
Is from Deborah. Go! Go get it! "The item I included is perfect because it embodies what is best about Colwood: comfort and history." and celebrating quietly with a nice cup of tea. Ah, now the reason that the tea is empty is because this is— oh, there it is. Never mind, it's not empty. It's because we opened this earlier, like a couple weeks ago, and I may have drank it.
You did have some of it.
But I didn't, apparently. Not all of it, I guess.
I think there's usually like 4 envelopes in those boxes.
Can I just say that there's a thing that you can do with Gmail— Garrick, that's it. I love Garrick. There's a thing you can do with Gmail where if you put a plus and then some other letters after your email address, you can use it as a way of tracking what— oh, I wouldn't do any of that. What are you trying to do? Don't, don't, don't put that. Don't. What are you trying to—
I was gonna type in the chat because you're—
I wouldn't do that. Yeah, bad things will happen. Anyway, I forgot what I was gonna say there. So, uh, and that is— did we show it? Oh, that was the tea. Thank you. Which I'm going to have tonight. Oh, there's Otis! It's a boy.
This is Otis. He's a big delicious boy. You gonna keep us up tonight?
He was such a little shit last night. Holy— All right, this is also— it looks like a Victoria area. Sydney by the Sea. Beautiful colors. This is a— that is a sticker. It's going on my laptop. And Karen just says, "Love your work." Thank you, Karen.
Um, Deborah Domini said, "Glad you like it. The plus also allows for tracking." Oh, you're the white squirrel person.
Yeah, that's right. Oh, is this you? Was that Deborah?
Oh, Alicia Nutt. OK, hang on. Wait, wait, wait.
I know, I know. I'm going to lose track. Yeah, it allows for tracking. I was laughing because You use the plus symbol when you want to see if someone has sold your email address. Right? Yeah. So she put +Tod at the end of her email address to see that if I added her and then I sold her off to, like—
We ain't got no time for that.
Nope. Not going to happen. Garin toured North America? Amazing.
Good for him. I remember him talking about touring, but I didn't realize where he was touring.
Yes, Alicia, we got the White Squirrel. Thank you. We opened it, like, half an hour ago or so.
Yeah.
It was awesome. We loved it.
Loved, loved, loved. I love the, like, the build on that package. It was like, another white squirrel package and another with a card and like, it was great.
Regina, Saskatchewan. This is from Neil. Here's my entry. It's not radioactive. Thank you, Saskatchewan freaks. Radioactive. But it might be slightly magnetic. I wasn't sure what to send you, so I'm sending you 3 things in this envelope. Use them in good health. There's also a postcard, but it's being sent separately. All the best to you and your no doubt patient wife. And Neil is also a ham radio operator because he included his, his code, uh, and I have a story to tell you about that in a moment. But first, we're going to talk about these beautiful stickers.
No, and this one is from BC as well. I'm just double checking. Oh, that's cool.
It's like Dewey Decimal or something. Regina Public Library. Oh, Regina bookmark with the pride colors.
I love it.
And hey, what are you guys doing? Oh, it's that. Yeah, okay, that's okay.
You can have that, Regina girl, uh, magnet.
Um, back to, back to ham radio. I tried applying for my ham radio license last year. And to get it, you have to study. And it's complicated. And you have to learn about electricity and about radio waves and impedances and voltage and wattage and capacitors and resistors. And it was far more complicated than I thought it was going to be. So I bailed out. And it was kind of during COVID I think. And so it was like, it was a Zoom meeting. And there were, it was us and about—
every month, right?
Every week. Every week for like, for like 14 weeks. And then there's a big test at the end of it. In the first 2 or 3 courses it was fine, and then the third or the fourth it was just way over my head. It was all the physics. But anyway, there was this little girl taking the course as well. She couldn't have been more than 10, right? You remember her? Yeah, I—
10, maybe 12. Not, not even 12. She wasn't like an, um, She was not a teenager. She wasn't even coming close to teen.
No. Teenager. She was a kid. She was a little kid. And she was taking the course. Because unlike in the US where there's an age limit, in Canada there's no age limit for getting your ham radio license. As long as you can pass the test, you can get one. And so this little girl, who's probably 10 years old, is taking the test with us. And I'm struggling, and I'm learning all this stuff. And they ask you, you know, you're like, They're like reading the stuff and then they'll say, "Okay, Tod, what's the impedance divided by the magnetic resonance of the capacitor resistance?" You know, and you're like, "Ugh!" And this little girl was just knocking these answers out of the park. But what pissed—
She's so precocious.
What pissed me off most about her wasn't that she was good at the answers, is that she would answer the question and then talk about something very 10-year-old-like. It was like, "It's 2.4 against the capacitor resistance with the ohms divided by the—" Divided by the voltage and the wattage when you use a negative resistance meter. Do you want to see this pony I drew?
She was always talking about her dog. She's like, do you guys want to see my dog? And she would bring the dog up. And then it snowed once and she was— she took us outside with her phone to show us the snowman that she made. Oh, it was embarrassing.
And she was acing it. Like, she was getting all the questions right.
She was so smart.
She must have a ham license. By now. Lorena, uh, this is from— it doesn't say. Lorena is from Brantford, so this is Ontario. Oh, I like this. This is a pin. It is an old style phone. Bring it! I dig it. Bring it, bring it.
Okay. Oh, I like that. I wish we had one of those phones. We had one in my house growing up that was attached to the wall. Didn't work. Thank you, Lorena.
Thank you, Lorena. That was lovely.
Come on, bring it here. Bring— yo, it's teasing me.
Ollie Man, how did you make the Canadian flag? That's neat. Wait, is that— is that a maple leaf or a weed? I can't tell.
It'd just be as close to a maple leaf as they could get.
OK. This is Saskatchewan.
Buck said, "I also appreciate you being my emotional support Canadian." We are happy to be.
This is from Gerald in Wolseley, Saskatchewan. If you're just joining us, by the way, we had a contest called Canada's Biggest Smallest Contest where we asked people to send us the smallest possible trinket from their community. And we are opening the hundreds of entries. We may have to do a part 3 as well. This is heavy. So, go get him, Wolseley, Saskatchewan. First of all, there's a heritage tour pamphlet with like—
go get him, he's outside.
Oh, that's cool. Like all sorts of things. And then there's something in this envelope.
I'm just yelling at the dog.
She's— I assure you, nothing radioactive in this package. Thank you.
How is your Morse code?
Included are— you don't have to do Morse code anymore. You don't have to. You can. If you do, if you choose to do it, you might qualify for the, like, slightly better license, which gets you into more frequencies or higher power frequency.
Anyway. Jan said, "I bounced a signal off the Mir space station to talk to Russia." That is so cool. That's cool.
OK. Included are coins featuring our town hall and opera house on one side, and Lord Woolsey, after whom our town is named. Oh, these are shiny. In— in—
sticker.
Sorry, I know the camera's acting up. There we go. Oh, this dude.
Oh, that's cool. Town of Woolsey. Is that Stalin? Is that Stalin? Doesn't that look like Stalin?
It's Woolsey. It's Mr. Woolsey.
Oh, Telephone's watching from the beginning, I think. Telephone, no. Um, It's Wolseley, but doesn't— does it not look like Stalagmite? It's a little—
it's a prairie jewel, home to the only swinging bridge just off the Trans-Canada Highway in Saskatchewan. Our town boasts two provincially designated heritage sites. Sorry, I'll put this back. Two provincially designated heritage sites: the Town Hall Opera House, built in 1906, and the Wolseley Courthouse, the oldest court building of its kind in Saskatchewan, which was constructed in 1894 during the era of the territorial government. We would be thrilled to have you. Please consider this a personal invitation. Thank you. Oh, it's from the mayor! Yo, Gerald is the mayor! This is our first mayor. This is our first mayor. We have already had our first bribe, if you missed it. Someone put literally $10 in the thing. Hilarious. But that's because they didn't want to use a credit card, which is awesome.
Well, if the mayor wants us to come to a concert or whatever and fly us out—
The mayor of—
I got some family who needs a visit.
Yeah, thank you, Your Worship. Do they still call mayors Your Worship, or is that just me?
Well, they call our mayor Your Worship. Do they still? He kind of brushes it off sometimes.
Yeah, I asked him when I talked to him the other day, I'm like, what should I call you? Like, like, Your Worship, Mayor Leonard? And he's like, Len, just call me Len.
I've asked him that before, and I said, should I call you Len or Leonard? And he was like, take your pick. I was like, all right. He's a pretty easygoing guy.
All right. Glenda from Richmond, BC, which is—
Sandra said, "I had a patient who was a ham operator. We had to work with the facility to move him his room 3 times until he got one where he had reception." Oh, you were— you are good people. Made that happen for him.
Glenda in Richmond has sent a pin from the Olympics. A Richmond pin from the Olympics. Richmond had a lot of Olympic—
Richmond was an official location because of the Richmond Oval, right, which I have played wheelchair basketball in several times. There we go.
Thank you. That's a really cool pin. My friend Patrick was there when they announced that Vancouver won the Olympics.
I remember being in a pub with Jen.
Oh yeah, found out, uh, this is Ontario. Alex from Smith Falls, Ontario. And we may have had this pin before, actually, but I do dig it. It's really detailed. That's what I like about it. Hang on, where is the camera? There it is.
Well, a lot of the pins look similar. This is like a crest. Oh wow, that's fancy. Ontario.
Smith Falls, Ontario. Thank you. Oh, I don't know. Yeah, I don't know, maybe not.
I think we did have another Smith Falls.
This is gonna make— someone's right, this is gonna make a hell of a fishing hat. Terrace, BC.
This is from Bonnie. Joe says, I remember Nanaimo Mayor Frank May. That's the pirate mayor that made up all— had his kid made up all those crazy names like Jingle Pot and Buttertubs.
Enclosed, find our entry into your smallest Canada event. I think it's a great idea. Looking forward to seeing all the other entries. I am a new subscriber to your webpage and agree with your world point of everything. Excellent, you can be my friend. Only people who agree with me at all times.
Don't encourage him, you guys.
Terrace, BC, home of the churro— kermode bear?
Kermode. Cremoti bear? Um, I think the Cremoti is the white one. Yeah, the like spirit bear. Oh, which is funny because you have a white squirrel in Ontario, but in BC we have a white bear called the spirit bear. So maybe you should call yours the ghost squirrel.
Albino raccoons on Newcastle. That's cool. St. John, New Brunswick. Mm, Saint John, New Brunswick.
What, dog?
What do you want? Hello from Canada's oldest incorporated city, Saint John, New Brunswick. Damn it, I said Saint John's, didn't I? Saint John, New Brunswick. Pointing it out. I too am a former CBC employee. Oh, that makes me feel even worse because CBC employees are supposed to know the difference anyway. Um, And here it is. It is a magnet. Beautiful. Of Saint John, not Saint John's. Saint— beautiful Saint John, New Brunswick. Also very bilingual, New Brunswick.
It is the only officially bilingual province.
That's true, it is. New Brunswick is the only officially bilingual province. That is true. Doesn't care about English. We— you know what we should do? We should do it. We should do a monthly "Canadian trivia night live on YouTube." Would you guys come if we did, like, a monthly Canadian trivia night? That would be fun.
We'll do that. We'll do a live trivia night. Yeah. I dig it.
This is from Joyce, who lives in Gmail. Muskoka. Ooh, that's cool. Trees and water and stuff.
Muskoka, Canada. I love it. Look at this, Yezars. "I'm a physician in the US and it's increasingly tempting to consider Canada, but I've got school-age kids in the fairly sane Massachusetts. Not sure if feasible to later move in my 50s." That's a hard one.
If you're a physician— Yeah. You can't— we can. So I can't speak for other provinces. They are equally great and wonderful provinces. And BC is the only one I can speak to because it's where I live. There are teams of people. There are departments of the government, of the Ministry of Health, The entire reason they exist is to support people like you and your family to move to Canada. So unlike a lot of other countries, which is like, make— if you want to come here, great, you know, you get an application form, figure it out on your own. If you're a healthcare worker, you will be fast-tracked. We have government departments set up just to help you move, you, you and your family here. Um, and you can, uh, look at our website, which is over here, which is called Nanaimo and www.fusion.ca. That has information about, generally speaking, and then also our community because we are trying to attract folks like you. So thank you for that one from Muskoka Trees and Water and Stuff, which I hope is the official tagline of that area because that would be hilarious.
That is awesome. I love that card.
Was it a sticker? It was a— I'm not quite sure. It felt like a magnet, but I don't think it was magnetic. Nipigon, Ontario. My name is Anne-Marie. I'm in Nipigon, Ontario. In Nipigon, it gets so cold that women wear bush socks with their skirts.
Yep, I can imagine that. Wow.
And hence the name Nipigon Nylons for bush socks. So here is our Nipigon Nylons pin.
I like it. Why is it Nippon Nylon? Oh, Nippon Nylon.
Because like the sock is the nylon.
Sit with me while I do a toy for the dog because she won't leave me alone. Oh, that is freaking cute. Yes, ours—
I want that one. Yes, ours. There is also a need for every healthcare oncology. It's especially. So you would have no problem. Oh my gosh, check out— please go to our website, 911fusion.ca. We also have a Discord if you're familiar with Discord. There are people in the Discord that are recruiters for Island Health, that are recruiters for the BC Ambulance Service. We have Lori, who is an expat, who can help you. We have, um, we have local nurses that can help you understand what it's like working in healthcare here. We have doctors If you go to this website, nanaimoinfusion.ca, there's a link to the Discord there. And it's— so yes. Yes to trivia. Yeah, we should do that. I think that would be cool.
I think we have to switch up the topics though, because then the Americans won't come. Wow. Jezzer says, PJ Canadian wonder how many years I'd be pressured to work. Um, it's not so much how much you're pressured to work, but you, um, you won't be able to access OAS and CPP, which are our pension, um, old age security and stuff, and until you've worked in Canada for 20 years. But you could just continue contributing to your 401k Ontario Ontario. That— I think that was 3 Canadian, or BC— 2 BC ones and 1 Ontario. No, 3 Ontario. Sorry.
Lion's Head Lighthouse is a lighthouse on Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada, near the village of Lion's Head. A recent lighthouse was a replica built by local high school students. This was destroyed by several storms in the winter of 2019-2020. The first lantern, which emitted a red light, erected atop a pole on the outer end— oh my God, this Actually, this is literally a Wikipedia page that they've sent me. I thought it was a letter. Anyway, Lion's Head, um, from Georgian Bay, Ontario, near the village of Lion's Head. Oh, here we go, here's the letter. Um, this was made as a fundraiser for repairs to our resilient and beautiful historic lighthouse. That's cool. After storms destroyed it, this community continues to rise above many losses and rebuilds again with the support of the people in this community and service clubs. We love our village.
Thanks, Carmen. It was my understanding that you have to work here a certain amount of time before you can. But if not, I will go relook that up tomorrow just so I'm not telling anyone the wrong thing.
Yeah, PJ, the little tiny book is definitely in the top 5 of the shortlist. Yeah. McBride, BC. This is from Vonda. In McBride, BC.
I reassembled that one. I held on to the thing I found, the self-addressed stamped envelope. Yeah. And the prize. And eventually the letter showed up.
So it's a— it is a, um, a bookmark, I think. I'm not sure why they want this back, why they put a stamped self-addressed envelope, but that's fine.
So she mentions it in the letter, but not like, here's why I want what I want in the letter. Like, it just doesn't make makes sense to me. I'll put it on the pile for them. Put it on the returns. Yeah, maybe we need the letter so we understand why she wants it.
Maybe, maybe she thinks that the prize, the grand prize, can be sent, but you can't. It does not fit. The grand prize will not fit.
But it is her address, so, you know.
Uh, this is from Burlington, Ontario. This is from Elizabeth in Burlington.
Excellent.
Burlington. I'm checking them all for money now. Cheap-ass didn't bribe me. Thinking of you on Thanksgiving. Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up soon, by the way. We already have— oh, I gotta show you something. Hang on, I'll forget, so I gotta show you right now.
Oh no. PJ collects tiny books, and so does Sandra? What? That's crazy.
So we have great potato chips here. Hardbite is a great brand. Super, super, super tasty potato chips. And they have, because it's Thanksgiving soon, turkey stuffing. It totally tastes like turkey stuffing.
It tastes like turkey dinner. I hate stuffing, and that is good.
This is so good. It's, it's, it's, it's a little shocking. I don't know how they managed to like synthesize it. Actually, what are the ingredients in it? Maybe, maybe it's like literally gravy or something in it. I don't know how else it would Yeah, this is, this is from, from BC. Where are the ingredients list? It's probably just gonna say like potatoes and spices or something like that. Potatoes. Yeah, it's just potatoes and spices. Bastards, not giving away the secret. Okay, Burlington, Ontario. Sorry, this is Elizabeth. Beautiful postcard. This is from the Ivan Cleaver postcard collection. I know that. I knew that before I looked, and totally not because it says that on the back.
Can I see it?
It took a while to find something that was a souvenir of Burlington, and this—
hmm, Hotel Brant, it says—
is too late to qualify, probably. Thank you for a remarkable word crafter in defense of Canada. Thank you, Elizabeth. Excellent. Beautiful. That's a really cool one. We're gonna have to like devote part of our bookshelf to all of these cool things. Yeah, everything.
We'll have to find like a t-shirt or a hat or something to—
yeah, a toque. Everything will find a home here. Everything will be on display. Nothing gets thrown out. Everything that we hear will be on display in our home.
Pay no attention to the—
except the $10, which I'm gonna spend on Cheezies.
We're just hanging on to it.
Um, Mississauga, Ontario. Okay, Ontario. Well, they have a lot of people. They have a lot of people. This is from Carl, perhaps. Um, Christina and Martin, also perhaps. Oh, a little piece of Toronto, the T-dot. A phone number, if you like, that you Kan call, handed out at every event just in case the world ends.
I love it. What does it mean? It's the police. Oh, all right, good to know. Do we think that Toronto Police are gonna save us from the invasion of the Americans? There you go.
Oh, I think this is the one handed out at every event just in case the world ends. Man, you people are dark in Ontario.
This is the one with the license, the animal license. Oh yeah.
All right, so this one, this, this is the saddest story one. Leave for a minute if you're weepy.
Hold space with us.
Yeah, so this is Okotoks, Alberta. You're right, Okotoks. Alberta. It's been a long time since I was on CBC, give me a break. Uh, this is from Monica in, in Okotoks.
And oh, Mono, I don't think they're Canadian, but those are Canadian Froot Loops.
Are your— yeah, Froot Loops are a little bit lighter, so the company is not, but the reason that we have them— good eye, by the way. I know everyone's like, ah, that's not Canadian. They are, uh, they are actually made in Canada. Most of this company's products are not made with— by Canadian employees, but for whatever reason, Froot Loops, Froot Loops are. Um, okay, so was Monica—
Dave Shadowin was from Louisville, Kentucky and was on, uh, Vancouver Island last week. Cool. How did you find us? I'm sorry, I said it wrong. It should be Louisville, right? Louisville, no S.
So Froot Loops, the brand, like the brand is Kellogg's, I think, and Kellogg's is obviously American. But, but Froot Loops, and most of the Kellogg's cereals are also made in the US, but for whatever reason, Froot Loops specifically are made in Canada, at least the ones we found here. So this is, and they're delicious, a tag from the town of Okitoks. Okitoks. There's literally nothing on the back. It is a municipal tag, and I'm going to read you the story. Hi, I really like following you on Instagram, and I subscribed to— she's being very complimentary here. Um, I'm learning so much about Canada. I'm sending you my little doggie's ID tag. Because my beautiful Calypso died on Monday.
That was, yeah, a month ago now.
She was very much loved and won't need it, so I thought it would be a neat addition to your collection. And then a beautiful card. And that's— it made us cry. It made us cry a little.
So we lost our sweet dog 2 years ago on Halloween, and, um, she was She was a lovely dog. Yeah. We're very sorry about your dog.
So if you're watching, Monica, thank you. We will put this pride and joy front and center on our bookshelf and think of Calypso often. Calypso, what a great name. Yes, there is. You're absolutely right, Maria Eve. There is a— Farm Girl Cereal does have an alternative to Fruit Loops. Obviously Fruit Loops is cheaper because, you know, mass production. Because of mass production and things like that. Um, but it does exist. And what's different in Canada— what's different in the Canadian— well, slow down, I can't do all these. The Canadian, uh, ingredients are different. So we don't, we don't use, uh, dyes for color in our Fruit Loops, like red number 72, blue 13. We use foods. So instead of, like, blue dye number 12, it's blueberry extract and raspberry extract. And because they don't do it in the US, they do that just in Canada. They're made here for some reason. OK, sorry. I'm telling too many stories here. London, Ontario. This is from the Tasker family, it looks like. Here's a token from London circa the mid-'50s. Oh, this might be— this might be a contender. This might be a contender. So that's all it says. Hi Tod, here is a token from London circa the mid-'50s.
Oh, it's one of those coin flattening ones. Maybe it is. Totally. That's neat. I like it. It has a very cool look to it. It's like that big gear. Yeah, love it.
I mean, this is what I thought we would— was stuff like that, stuff like this.
Yeah. Okay, that one was from— again, where'd it go? Uh, London, Ontario.
Susan, Powell River. Not a trinket, but a real rare gem. Postcard. Thank you. Oh, the flattened coin. Okay, uh, here's the, here's the, uh, postage stamp check. Look at this handsome dude. I don't know who it is. Jean-Marc Dalpé. Dalpé. Dalpé. Jean-Marc Dalpé. Someone want to Google?
That's a nice painting. Yeah, let's see who that is. Um. Does anyone know who he is? It's, it's a stamp on a Powell River item.
So Cindy and Dale from Waterloo, Ontario.
Canadian playwright and poet. Oh, there you go. Looks very Canadian there.
So much so, he's wearing the, uh, buffalo plaid.
Yeah, exactly.
Exactly. Hello from Kitchener, Waterloo. Well, technically from Waterloo, but we always get lumped together. Please enjoy this Oktoberfest Kim from my hat pin collection. We aren't exactly what you would call a small town given that we have two universities. Where is it?
No, I opened that one. Oh, but look, there's a hole in the bottom which looks like a dog.
No, no, no, this— we, we've seen this. We should not have opened it. Any of them.
I agree.
I'm sorry, Cindy. We did see it. We did see it. I think what's happened is that it—
it's in the bottom when we got the—
where's the camera? See there? This is what it looked like when we got it. And so I think it slipped through. I think it slipped through. But we did see it. We did see something in here originally, so that's our fault. Uh, I'm sorry about that. This is from Banff, Banff, Alberta.
We've got so few from Alberta. It is, yeah. It's like the Texan Albertans are like, ah, who cares, we're leaving.
Lori and Marco from Banff, Alberta. These souvenirs and card are made from a lovely Canmore small business. Where is the one missing the—
that is cool—
or the hat pin? It's, it's in the— I just put put it in there. And then a really cool badge, like a very cool— so did you get Alberta? Yep.
We will find— we will find them. They're all in the bag. Yeah, just we've made the mistake, we got too excited about all the cards and opened a you with them.
Can I talk about Waterloo for a second? Oh no, I told that story last time. Never mind. You did? Yeah. Edmonton, Alberta. So good. Edmonton, Alberta. This is from Angela in Edmonton, Alberta. Another Alberta. Another Alberta. Okay, it's also funny. Another tiny envelope. I always like those. Angie in Edmonton. A special pin from Edmonton's Klondike Days.
Oh, I remember! I lived in Edmonton from age like less than a year old to age 5, and Klondike Days is one of the only things I remember, and it was so fun. Oh, oh, that's a really old one! '86. '86! Gosh, that was just after I left.
Yeah, wow, that's cool.
I love the old pins.
I do too. I get a 10 out of that though.
Can I, um, well, give me the whole thing and— no, can I show this one? Because there's some cred that needs to be given. The first time Tod announced this, he called it Canada's tiniest Treasures. That was a name— did I come up— I can't remember. One of us came up with them, and this person is the only person who used it, so I'm assuming they sent it like right after that first. So there you go. Seashell. Yo, Deanna!
Deanna, it's one of your people. No, this is from Jay Perry. Jay Perry in Seashell. Well, I'm trying not to do laughing, so it doesn't matter. My bad. And, uh, the stamp check is Sarah McLachlan is on the stamp.
Oh, that's cool.
Beautiful, very seashell-like setting. This is, uh, this is actually the artist is Helena Ray from the Sunshine Coast. Seashell is beautiful. That is beautiful. And the letter, we have one on our fridge right now that was—
oh no, that was given to you. Yeah, you got that one from someone who's She sent you mail before the contest, and it's a beautiful watercolor.
Hello from Davis Bay. Everyone who lives on the Sunshine Coast knows this pier in Davis Bay. It says a lot about what is important to us here. From Joanne. Thank you, Joanne.
I'm gonna put that one in my watercolor book and learn from it. Yeah, sure.
Here, I'll just let you have that then. This is unmarked. Red Deer, Alberta.
Oh, she left the, the card blank, I guess, so we could use it. I'm gonna keep it for myself. Um, Alberta. D said the Davis Bay Wharf. That is the Davis Bay Wharf.
Alberta. This is Susan. Alberta's catching up. Susan in Red Deer, coming from behind. That's cool. That is literally a red deer.
Oh, that is cool.
That's really cool.
It's like a ruby color. Yeah, good little enamel.
Yeah. Thank you, Ontario. Is there no—
oh, this— a lot of people wrote really long letters. This one's like nothing. 5 letters.
Yeah, 5 words. Uh, this is Ontario. Okay, I'm not even gonna pronounce that last name, it's a Greek last name.
Oh yeah, that's a rough one. Yeah, I'll try.
Dimitrakopoulos.
Yep, Dimitrakopoulos. Are we going to see a part 3? Are you making it through this?
That's a good question. What does the pile look like? Where is the pile?
It's Still pretty full.
Oh yeah, there's gotta be a part 3.
Fuck, I think we're gonna have to do part 3 and then we'll pick from the shortlist because this is— this is still—
we still have a lot left. So yeah, there's gonna be a part 3.
We're only gonna have that open for 2 weeks.
No, we're gonna make it harder. We're gonna—
that's what I mean, 2 weeks you get fewer and fewer mail. No, somebody— we're gonna make it for 3 3 more weeks.
We're gonna make it harder by having a $100 minimum entry fee. We don't need that.
All right, this says the whole point of it being this tiniest thing was so that it would only cost you the one stamp, Ontario, which you all ignored, but okay. Stamp check.
Oh, there's no stamp on this one. Stamp check.
Oh nice, that looks like Vancouver Island. I'm kind of digging the, the stamped part of this.
Scarborough, Ontario. This lapel pin is a replica of the municipal flag of the city of Scarborough. Why would it just be a replica? Are we not allowed to see the real one?
Well, it's not a real flag, it's a pin. Yes, okay, someone's being very precise. From Susan.
Thank you, Susan. And also a card. A beautiful Scarborough.
Pretty.
Wait a minute, it looks like Susan did this. This might be Susan's photography, actually.
It says— yeah, yeah, Susan Dimitriopoulos, spudsnaps.com.
So there you go. Thank you. That's really cool. I, I dig— it's clear, it's clearly like a '70s design. They all had that kind of like borderline industrial look to them, right? Yeah, it's like Could be municipality. Could be manufacturer of industrial lubricant. You know? You weren't quite sure. I dig the kind of simple nature of it.
Here's my story about Scarborough. OK. I played wheelchair basketball for, like, 20— 15 years. And Variety Village in Scarborough was often a site of our tournaments. And Um, all the people when we went there called it scarlem.
It's awful.
It's awful. And in our defense, it was like the— this is 1997 or something. And, um, uh, but Variety Village is amazing, and donate them money because they got me into basketball.
We're gonna do 3 more, and then, and then we're gonna stop, and we're gonna do a part 3 in a few days.
I have to work a little tonight.
And if we do this again, we're gonna have to like come up with something that's— take— this is, this is gonna be—
we can only take 2 weeks worth of letters.
It's gonna be in total, it'll be like 6 or 7 hours to go through of opening these. That's amazing. This is from Grand Bank, Newfoundland.
Susan is in the chat. Did we just open Susan's? No, Susan Dementricopoulos. Oh really? I don't know, it just says Susan is in the chat there. PJ, PJ, explain yourself.
Okay, you did not say it had to be shipped in, nor did you say it had to be shippable for a single stamp. I, I know, I know, you, you're right, you're right, Marie.
I said it letter mail.
Okay, how is that not clear? This is New Green Bank, Grand Bank, Newfoundland. Newfoundland. You're the best. Newfoundland. Newfoundland.
Canada Post stuck my letter through the slot to make sure it would mail for one stamp cost.
Nice. Come on, camera.
That's, that's a nice— I like that one. Well done. Way to go, Grand Bank. The dog's like, I gotta poop, let me out.
Excellent. The name Grand Bank came from the French Grand Blanc. Grand Banque, probably named after the natural embankment on the west side of the river estuary.
I'm laughing at your comment, Maria.
That's from Brent. Thank you, Brent.
He said, hi, hi, I didn't send anything, but I should have sent you a butter tart recipe. Yes, you should. Yeah, I want that butter tart recipe. And his email address is Tod Maffin at— am I allowed to say your usual one? @gmail.com. Send it to Todd. Nova Scotia.
Nouvelle-Écosse. Fridge magnet from Nova Scotia. A fridge magnet. Uh, this year will be our 32nd annual Christmas festival here in New Ross, Nova Scotia. We're kind of special here because if you have ever purchased a balsam fir Christmas tree, it likely came from our county.
Wow, I didn't know that.
It is the balsam fir Christmas tree capital of the world. It's in all caps. We would love to have you visit our hamlet. Hamlet, adorable. Very, very cool. We retired here in 2022. Awesome, folks.
We got some— are we— Tod got some—
Judy, thank you.
Kind of mean feedback on one of his videos, and I want to say that we are working hard to, um, promote healthcare workers moving to Canada, including the balsam fir capital of the world. World. So, you know, but what happened is people—
someone got angry. Someone got angry on Instagram, a Canadian. Yeah, that said that I was selfish because I was only promoting Vancouver Island. It's the only place I know that well.
And it was a video where you started with Canada. Most of it was Canada.
And then clarified. However, I am working for that. I am working on a, on a kit. I haven't even told you this yet. I'm working on a kit that every community across Canada will be able to replicate what we did with the website and with the Discord. So I'm writing a, like a, like a kit, a way for you to take what we've done and you just copy it and and put it on your own server and change the name of your community, and presto, you will have what we set up here. And you can use it to recruit your own healthcare workers. This is our last one of the evening. It is from East La— It's from Nova Scotia.
Lahav, Nova Scotia. Oh, is that where the kids are lost? I hope not. All right, thank you.
It says we enclosed a souvenir from— it's a Lunenberg.
Please— no. Okay, well, that's something.
Anyway, this is— this was also made. Oh, it's obviously— it's Blue Nose. Made handmade.
Oh, that's so cool! That's going on that tree. I like it. I really like it. Blue Nose too. I really like that. I don't know, should that go Sandy and Barry if you wanted to? It's kind of my favorite of all of the like commercial— yeah.
All right, so thank you all for coming. Um, we thought we would get through, we did not. We still have this many to go through. So another 50, maybe? 50 or 60? So there will be a part 3. I don't know when yet. I'll schedule it in the next little while. So best to follow my Bluesky account. That's where I post stuff like this. Or threads. But Bluesky, if you're going to follow me anywhere, follow me on Bluesky because I post there stuff that I don't post anywhere else. And my username is just TodMaffin.com on Bluesky. And follow Jocelyn on TikTok. TikTok. She is— what are you on TikTok? Jocelyn Hacks. Hacks. H-A-C-K-S. Um, and so there'll definitely be a part 3. I think what we will do is part 3— I think part 3 we will, um, we'll get through all of the remainders, and then part— and then we'll take another couple days of break, and then we will come back for part 4 for the grand finale where we re-go through the ones that have been shortlisted because we've got about a dozen that are shortlisted for the potential winner. And then part 4 will just be the winner selection.
I would like to do it in 3 parts.
Nah, no, I don't think we'll have enough time. That, that what's left there is going to take us another hour and a half to go through.
Thank you for your patience and actually watching. This mess. If there's anything we can do to make it more interesting, you let us know.
Man, I wore the House Hippo t-shirt. What else can we do? Dave, of course you're always welcome. Kentuckians are welcome as well. Tea, please. Please have tea for the next event. Yes. Tea. Part 4, you have to wear the shiny coat. The shiny coat will come back for the finale, for sure. Yeah. All right, so thank you. Um, and again, if you want more of Canada and you're interested in my newsletter, it comes out every week. You can get to it right here where it says join.farandwide.news. And if you are a healthcare worker and you would like to, um, give your family a safe place to live and a wonderful place to practice and to move to, you can check out our community called Nanaimo on Vancouver Island by going to this website, nanaimoinfusion.ca.
Dave, I hope that you will come back. You're not crashing the party, you are the party.
Um, Susan Wright, good night everyone, my nerves are shot waiting to see mine. Has yours not come up yet? It's still in the box.
Susan, remind me again where— when you're— you're from Seashell or Sunshine Coast, aren't you? Thank you, Momo. We'll find it, we'll find it.
It'll be— it'll— don't worry, we, we leave no, no penguins behind here. All right, thank you. Good night, everyone.
Okay, good night. Goodbye.
