Dear Americans… we saved you a seat

Tod makes the case for Americans to move to Canada, contrasting universal healthcare that won't bankrupt you with the U.S. system, stricter gun laws tied to fewer mass shootings, and higher taxes he says are worth it. British Columbia alone has 1,800 open healthcare positions.

Hello Americans, I'm Tod. We've been watching the news. We know it's getting worse down there and we want to help. We need people here. Skilled workers, healthcare workers. Our government's targets are 400,000 new permanent residents this year alone. Your home, your family's home, can be here, safe, in Canada. And in this video I'm going to tell you how. But first, let us talk about your uncle who spends too much time on Facebook. You may have heard from him that our healthcare system is broken, or you spend years on a waiting list waiting for urgent care. The truth is, if you have an ingrown toenail, you might be further down the list. We call this system triage. It's the same system your healthcare system uses too, except here nobody loses their home or their savings because they got sick. Is it slower than we want it to be? Sometimes. But we don't build things here for speed or profit. We build them for everyone. You may have also heard that we'll take anyone, including the queers. Guilty. Doesn't matter to us who you love, just be decent. When the Girl Guides come around, buy their cookies. You don't have to eat them. We don't. Guns? Your uncle's wrong there too. You can own one up here if you're into hunting or whatever, but you'll need a written exam, practical tests, background checks, a review of your mental health history, any domestic violence in your passed and your license expires every 5 years. Gun ownership here is a privilege. It's not a right. Handguns, military assault rifles aren't sold here anymore. In the US, there have been 300 mass shootings this year. In Canada, there have been 2. Still terrible. Still painful. But 2. You may have also heard that Canada has higher income taxes than the US. That is also true, but the difference is 2%. Is 2% worth not having to buy bulletproof backpacks for your kids? Worth knowing an ER visit won't bankrupt you? That's your call. Look, we're not perfect up here. We have our problems, but we are a young country still. We're still building here. We're building a place where your kids can be safe, where you don't have to where you don't have to scan for exits when you walk into a grocery store, where healthcare is your right, not a business model. America has given the world incredible things. All we're offering is a place where you can keep doing that without all the chaos. I live on Vancouver Island in the province of British Columbia. We think our place is pretty nice. If you want to learn more about life here, check out nanaimoinfusion.ca, or if you're a healthcare worker, go to healthmatchbc.org and check out the job listings. 1,800 healthcare jobs open in BC, but every province right now is competing for you. So Google things like provincial nominee program and Express Entry, and you'll get everything you need. And if you want to learn more about us, I've got a free weekly newsletter about Canada. You can get it at farandwide.news.
