Hello.
Hello friends, neighbors, countrymen. Grant me your puppies. Puppies. Grant me all your puppies, for I have a puppy better than all of yours.
Oh, she never likes being lifted up to this.
No camera. She's like, it's gonna be puppy cam.
You gotta flip her ears back, she looks weird.
They just go back anyway.
There we go.
You're a superstar.
Okay, come on down.
Didn't know I was so scruffy. Good morning, peoples. Peoples of the world, good morning. Hello, Ifwente. Hi from UK. Hello, Sea to Skies. Hello. So the software that I'm using claims to let me— what?
Nothing, I'm shushing.
Oh, the software that I'm using claims to let me see the comments from all the platforms, but it's a lie. It doesn't. The only ones that I can apparently see are TikTok and Instagram. And Instagram is really stupid because, um, because— oh, see, this guy says hello. Uh, because Instagram, every single person who joins gets their own little line, right? When a Pig Muscle joined, so-and-so joined, so-and-so joined. And it's like, it's really hard to see the actual comments. And I wish you could turn it off. But you know, meta's gonna meta, as they say. Um, record high temperatures in Toronto. I've heard that we are getting a heat wave today. Did you hear that?
It is very warm outside.
Is it?
Now, I— it was 7:30 when I took the dog out, and you know the heat when it gets to a certain temperature and it makes the grass smell a certain way?
Yeah.
That was 7:30 in the morning. Oh my God, it was 24 degrees, I think. Oh geez, it's just unreal. I I don't like those days. I don't want— and we already have a wildfire.
I'm the gal that lives not far from you. We met once in Quality Foods. Cool.
Hello.
Cool, cool. Um, I'm still— I'm still amazed that anybody recognizes or knows me, so it's always a bit of a surprise and a pleasant kind of thing. The night market was funny. Yeah, so we, uh, we had our niece with us who is 15 or 16 or 27, I'm not really sure. And she— that's a— I stole that joke from Ellen DeGeneres. It's a great joke. I have a nephew, he's 5 or 6 or 17, I'm not really sure. And she says that her 15, 16-year-old friends know of me because my stuff cross-posts on Snapchat. And our quote-unquote fans. I think she's blowing a little bit of smoke up my ass, but no, but maybe not. I don't know. Anyway, it's very funny because— oh, do not look outside. Uh, it was very funny because we were at the night market, and what was the final count of people who stopped me and said hello?
It was 19.
19 people stopped and said, oh hey, I recognize you from— and then depending— yeah, yeah, I love what you do. And then depending on the demographic of the people, I could tell where they were from. You know, older people skewed Facebook, younger people skewed TikTok and YouTube. So yeah, I'm not seeing any comments stupidly from YouTube. It's really dumb. And then the other ones as well, like Facebook for instance, it's not showing me any comments or anything. Let me see if I can pull up Facebook. See, oh no, it's asking me for that. No, okay, hang on. Yeah, it's like they're always— what? I'm going to YouTube. There we go. Something is messed up. All right, so let's see if I can see live comments on YouTube.
Who's the person you said hi from? See the Sky?
Yes.
Is that Buzz?
No.
Oh, I don't know who that is.
Okay, so Stephanie, so now I can see it. But see, to see these, to see your comments, I have to literally open up each platform. I have to open up YouTube website and then I have to flip back and forth between it and TikTok. It's just really, it's really, really silly. So anyway, good morning everyone, thank you all for coming in. Um Stephanie and James Plant have number 1 and number 2 by their name, and I'm not sure what that means. They're competing for something. How should I deal with American women wanting to chat with me? It's creeping me out. They're not real. They're not real, Acadian. So you're gonna get— you get—
whoops—
you get a little— there's a lot of— I do need multi-monitors. Yeah, I should do this downstairs where I do have larger monitors, but So yeah, they're all, they're all bots, right? So they're— they come along and they will say things like, "Oh, you're, you're— I loved your feedback. I tried sending you a friend request. It didn't work. So please send me a friend request." They're all bots and they all just wanted to scam you. So none of them are real. I, you know, I have very expensive software that tweaks and pulls and hides certain comments and it nails most of them, but you know, like for instance a rose icon, they always seem to use a rose emoji in them. So I just filtered out if you use a rose emoji, you just, your comment just gets hidden immediately. So, alright, see this guy is Rachel, I think your name is, it's hard to see because of this, the way this is all done. I wish I could just see all of them. Hope you're okay after your health appointment. Thank you, Francis. I am, I am okay. I'm a little sore. It was, uh, well, thank God for lidocaine, but it was still a little sore. Tungle? Wait a minute, who the hell knows that my name is— nickname is Tungle?
Could that possibly be?
I don't think so.
BMGR030.
So yeah, it is very annoying. It's annoying that that happens. I wonder if there's a way I can use the— see the chat here. Chat box.
Nora should call you Tonk. Yeah. She's already got a short form.
Uh, yeah, I can't— oh, what is this? Chat notifications? No, I don't need that. I don't know, like literally the window that says chat is just empty. It's just completely empty. Very irritating. Well, and now I've lost all of your— "I am a little horse," Francis. Yeah. So some of you know that Jocelyn and I were in Australia for a while on holiday. We went on a cruise ship, and because cruise ships are cruise ships, we caught something. RSV, cold, flu, not COVID, we tested. The gout, I don't know, something.
And, um, that's for sure.
Um, and, uh, Jocelyn got over hers fast because she is not, not fast, not faster, like 2 and a half weeks. Yeah, it was a long, it was a long time, but it's still lingering with me now. The cough appears to finally be gone as of 2 days ago. And 3 days ago it was so bad I had to sleep on the couch.
I'm so superstitious though, like I'm like, don't say it out loud.
Yeah.
Also, I'd like to say I stayed on in a second bedroom for 3 nights when we both had coughs really bad because yeah, we were just waking each other up.
So yeah, it was, it was bad.
We had Niece on the couch so we could— we were in, in the other room. So you had to sleep on the couch.
Yeah, which is fine, you know. So now that I've shrunk down the YouTube thing, it's not letting me see the, the freaking chat at all. Like, these— I swear these people who make this, this software do not actually look at their own. Like, they don't actually use their own software because if they did, they would see— they would see. Uh, hello Sunshine Coast! I lived a few years in Seashell. So I don't know if you're in Seashell Town, Sunshine Coast. Join the conversation. You know what, this might be my fault. Hang on, I've got a thing on that. Join the live stream. No, it's still not working. Oh, there it is! It's working, it's working! I can see all of you. So all of you, I can see Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. I'm sorry, Facebook people, I cannot see your comment. You know, maybe I can if I like bring it up on my phone. I don't know. This service that I use has got a thing they call multi-chat, which supposedly works and lets me see everyone, but it just doesn't. Oh, and Facebook is like— oh no, there it is. There we go. Okay, so live chat, let's see. No, I have no idea what it's saying. Anyway, they're eating. Hello, Medic on the Move, happy Sunday! Thank you for being a member, Medic on the Move. Medic on the Move is a green bar, is a green bar subscriber over on YouTube, which means that they've been a member for a while. A little, a fun little note is that the colors of bars as you advance, as you stay a subscriber, are the same colors of weapons on Fortnite. So your first month, or your first month, you're gray, which is common, and then you move to green, which is uncommon, and then blue, and then purple, which is, I think, epic, and then there's legendary. Try Nim Jam herbal cough. Okay, the cough is mostly gone now, which, for which I'm very, very grateful.
Keep keep that on the list for next time.
Yeah, definitely. Joe, thank you for the coins. I didn't bring my plat up. Down with the Nanaimo Bars, man! Whose team are you on?
I think they need to be put in jail.
Expelled. Yeah, Buckley's is awful. Anyway, that's the best tagline. It does work. It can work.
Why didn't you get any? What do you mean? Well, we just both got over a really bad cold because it wasn't— we never used it.
Yeah, it works so well.
Why didn't we use it? Because it doesn't work. It tastes terrible and it doesn't work any different than any of the others.
Yeah, Steve, it was a terrible cough. It was awful. Hello, Nova Scotia. Whoa, Joe, Pictou, Nova Scotia. I think the Newfoundlanders are still pissed at me. For making fun of them. But I guess they don't realize I make fun of everyone. I make fun of BC more than anyone, and you know, Alberta gets it too. But I finally learned how to pronounce Newfoundland properly because I was saying Newfoundland for the longest time.
Newfoundland.
Newfoundland. Everyone's like, is that right? Well, I made a joke that they weren't a province, that they were a territory, and that they just— and they did a big air quotes You know, but they like to say they're a province. I thought that the air quotes and the grin would be obvious that it was, you know, what it was, but they just didn't. I used to listen to you when you're on the radio. Good God, Pix, really? That's a long time ago. That's cool. Peacock and Fig jumping over here from Facebook so you can hear my compliment that your dog is adorable. Yes, she is. Thank you for coming over from Facebook. I'm really sorry you had to do that. Uh, come here.
I used to listen to you on the radio too, and now look at me.
Yeah, Jocelyn was my— was one of my fans, one of my— there you go, there you go. Say hello to the people. Hello, people. She's quite chill right now.
She's sleepy.
Yeah, she's definitely sleepy. Port Angeles, welcome, welcome, Port Angeles. Vaughn, you do not want Newfies mad at you. No, Chicken, you are absolutely right. You definitely do not.
You're gonna ask the person from Port Angeles if they're the people that I mixed up with Port Townsend at the infusion.
Are you, Joseph, are you the people that Jocelyn mixed up with Port Townsend from the infusion? I don't have a gate on the mic, so you can probably hear her. Manitoba, welcome Manitoba. We're in Manitoba. Manitoba is like— it's like saying I'm from California, which I guess you could say as well. That is an adorable beast, isn't it?
I don't know if you could call her a beast. She's not scary enough.
That's true.
She'll lick you to death.
Oh, that icon means top fans. How are you guys earning XP? Stephanie James and Pixely, you three are the top fans on YouTube. I have no idea what that means. Are you just talking a lot? Anyway, I'm not really sure. More than half of Manitoba's population is in Winnipeg. Probably true, probably fair. Absolutely fantastic to get Newfies really drunk and then get them mad at you. You can't understand a damn thing. I can't understand a damn thing of them to begin with at the best of times. Yeah. My, my, uh, I've been to Newfoundland— Newfoundland. I've been to Labrador and the other place a few times now, and, um, and I got directions, and, uh, the directions that I got from them were based on things that didn't exist anymore. So they're like, oh yeah, you make a left where Farmer Boy's place was and make a right just past where the grocery store was and the red barn that, uh, burned down. Yeah, like, how am I supposed to know any of that? Anyway, greetings from Denmark. Hello Denmark, welcome.
Hello.
I think it's just who's speaking the most. Oh, okay, that could be. Can I get a fourth window, do you think? If I can get a fourth window, I might be able to see the I can get a fourth window. Okay. Oh wait, now I can see the YouTube people. Okay, then I can close this YouTube window. Why can't I see that in my chat over here? Then I'm gonna say hello. I'm gonna paste that in, and I don't know which of these platforms I just sent the word hello to. So if you see hello in the, in the chat, you can tell me. Oh wait, it may have gone to two platforms. It's so confusing. I know it went to YouTube because I could see it on YouTube. Man, so strange. Not TikTok. No. Yeah, it looks like it went to Twitch and YouTube. If you're multi-streaming, there's an app called Stream Ninja. You can have an integrated chat. Oh yeah, okay. So I'm gonna pop that open. It's Stream Ninja. All right, thank you. I'm very excited because I have a new laptop. Um, you said it in YouTube? Yes, cool, cool. Um, so now do I have any moderation control? Uh, see, now this is the problem with Oh, it says up here Facebook and YouTube. Oh, Facebook! Yo, if you're watching on Facebook, can you guys type something? It claims that I can see your comments. I don't think I can, but it claims— let me, let me like manually pop open Facebook here and see. See, Facebook is like still showing me that you're not live yet thing. Okay, so it's just not— it's just not working. Yeah, so I can see on your— all right, thanks Catherine and Barbara and Nancy. I can see you folks on my phone. I just, for some reason, it's just not letting me— and Christine, thank you. Thanks folks. It's just not letting me see it on this screen, which is very, very irritating. I don't know why. So anyway, I'm sorry, Facebook people. Yeah, a lot of people are doing what Deborah did, which is moving over to either YouTube or— YouTube is the easiest one for me to see, by the way.
I thought you couldn't get chat from YouTube.
No, I can't get chat from Facebook. Probably shouldn't be The other problem is if I use that— whoops, YouTube— is if I use that, that program— come on— if I use that system, then I can't moderate anything either. It's just, it's just a view of it. It's nothing, man. You think they would want to make this easy. So, all right, there's live. And now I can see— yes, now I can moderate if I need to. Not that I do, but anyway. I refuse to use Book of Face. Yeah, I don't really use it at all anymore. It cross-posts my material there, and I will say that, that, you know, I mean, it's not that I don't value the people there. It's all of a sudden that last month Facebook was my biggest performing platform, and I'll tell you why, actually. Um, it, uh, oh yeah, a bunch of people have moved over. YouTube for the win. Yes, exactly. I'll tell you why, um, it expanded, because, you know, you, Facebook and Instagram are connected, um, because they're owned by the same company. And so it knows that my Facebook page and my Instagram account are owned by the same person. So when I set up the Facebook page, It said, um, uh, it said, "Hey, do you want us to like cross-post all of your material from Instagram over here on Facebook?" And I was like, "No, that seems like a lot of content." And it was like, "No, no, we'll dribble it out." So for about a month, maybe a month and a half, every day it would post like 2 or 3 things from my Instagram account, and I was able to go in and sort of check and sort of like, you know, do a whole bunch of— thank you for, by the way, Nancy Samantha, thank you for subscribing on YouTube. I appreciate that. Murray also subscribed. Peter Boyes, Polly Wilson, thank you folks. Anyway, so it basically dribbled it out, 2 or 3 a day, and I was able to go in and say no, not this one, not this one, because before my account got popular I was just doing what everyone was doing on Instagram, which is bullshit nonsense stuff, right? I still arguably do bullshit nonsense stuff, but fewer people— more people see it now. And so Facebook was getting a ton of material new to most of the people on the Facebook page because they weren't on Instagram or TikTok or YouTube where those posts had been there for months. It was a little weird because, you know, like for instance, there was a one of the videos that I did was when there was a mass shooting in Toronto. No one died from it, but so I started by saying there was a mass shooting today in Canada, or tonight in Canada, and, um, and everyone on Facebook were like, wait, what? What? Some people were like, it's a repeat, it's really— anyway, for whatever reason, that is what, uh, what blew it up. Peterborough, Ontario, welcome. I only use Facebook for the local community marketplace. I feel like a lot of— I think that's what a lot of people are doing now.
I redownloaded it just for that and I regret downloading it.
Yeah, there is a new, there is a new social media platform coming, Canadians, uh, and it's called A, uh, and it kind of looks like Twitter. This is what it looks like. It is not open yet. I have an early access, but it basically just looks like Twitter, right? Come on, focus. It was focused before. Yeah, whatever. Anyway, why can't it focus? There we go. See, it's very, very Twitter-like. They have groups, not many because we're, you know, it's still starting, but it's sort of going to be like apparently like a Canadian— there's events. So we'll see, we'll see. It'll be interesting. Your conversation with InterestingMD was very helpful for my daughter-in-law. Good, I'm glad.
About what?
Oh, with that doctor that moved over here. Ah, your info is very valuable. Posting is important. I'm able to avoid things owned by billionaires. Deleted Instagram this week. Yep. Who's behind this A app? I don't know for sure, um, but they are in Parksville. They're on Vancouver Island. It's, it's a small company as far as I can tell.
The company that makes the streaming thing you're doing?
No, no. The company that makes that A app. Remember they gave me the t-shirt?
Oh.
Um, are you gonna get gander when it comes out? 100%. I emailed them to see if, um, if, if they would give me early access, but they didn't. The name of the app is called A-E-H, right? A like a, like the Canadian, uh, um, expression. A, uh, expression. It's not open to the public yet, but I— at least on, on iPhone, on the App Store, you can go to the App Store and look for it, and you can pre-download it, which are basically reserve it. So it basically means that when they launch it, which I think is in a week or so, it will automatically download. So you won't be able to get in quite yet, but soon. I was born and raised in Climax, Saskatchewan. What, man, you must have had some jokes right beside the city that rhymes with fun. I've never heard of Climax, Saskatchewan. Please tell me that dildo is their sister city. Yeah, Jocelyn's mom is from Eyebrow, Saskatchewan. Waiting for Gander too. I will pay money to worthy platforms. Yeah, I keep telling Bluesky, like, just start up your, your paid service, especially if I can edit my post. If I can edit my post and get 500 characters, I will pay for that for Bluesky. Bluesky is the only one left that's like, that's like under 500 characters. It's really irritating when I'm trying to cross-post stuff.
One of my favorite, um, podcasts—
silly Hilly, sorry I missed you earlier. Hi, silly.
My favorite podcast um, the Pod Save America guys. Yeah, we're slandering Blue Sky and made me so sad. I'm like, oh, it's gonna— they're gonna die now. Like, that sucks. I like Blue Sky.
We are still, uh, we are, we are better, silly hilly. But as you can hear from my voice, uh, it was just yesterday that I got rid of the cough. Yesterday was the first full day Hey Phantom, thanks! I looked on the Play Store and pre-registered as well. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Plus, silly Ellie, I had a big medical thing 2 days ago that required going to the hospital. It was essentially a test.
Um. An invasive test.
A very invasive, uncomfortable test. It was not a colonoscopy, which everyone was guessing.
Because you talk about it all the time.
I do talk about colonoscopies a lot, but it was not a colonoscopy. I've had one of those. It was also not comfortable. They put me under for it, but I woke up like in the middle of it briefly, and it was not comfortable at all. This one they did not put me under for. I had some freezing, but it was not— I mean, it was helpful. I will say that.
My info about the colonoscopy. Thank you, Top Stocks, in the last week. And, um, I— it says on the instructions, um, you will need a ride home if you are having sedation.
I was like, immediately, so fast, replied to it, and I was like, give me sedation!
There is sedation, right? Who do I have to talk to? She's like, yes, yes, there's sedation. Everyone is sedated. I'm like, take the if Yeah, no kidding, because you will be sedated.
Yeah, and then everyone guessed a dental procedure, which was strange because I was sitting in front of an ultrasound machine and I had a hospital gown on, so I don't know.
Not everyone knows what an ultrasound— the hospital gown gives it away, I think.
Like, well, the hospital gown makes it look like a colonoscopy, and I'm sitting in front of—
I don't know if they use an ultrasound, so And you really wouldn't have a hospital gown for a dental procedure, but you know. Yeah, good on those people who didn't know that. I hope they never have to know.
From Washington State: Absolutely love your content, love Canada, you have my full support. It's inspiring to see how Canada is taking a stand. Yo, we the bitch. Yo, I'm the OG gangsta. Yeah, come visit. We're doing, we're gonna do a second annual Nanaimo Infusion next April. April 25th to April 27th. Tod is pregnant. The word is out.
It's not really a second annual.
Yeah, it's not.
It's an anniversary.
It's a reunion. I'm gonna call it a reunion. Yeah, um, because there's not going to be any event. There's not going to be any big photo or anything like that. It's just going to be hangout. And I hope that Darth Daddy comes. I lost touch with him. I haven't— he didn't reply on Discord, so I guess—
yeah, well, he's probably not using Discord anymore.
Yeah, that could be, but we We got to find him. James, it is amazing where they can put cameras. Oh, sad. Yeah. Uh, could I— could I do an ultrasound on them teeth?
Teeth?
Yeah, um, I do have teeth things coming. Let's see your wife. I can only hear her. Barry Cotter, thank you so much for subscribing. I just realized that the sounds that I'm hearing are people subscribing, and that's— this is on YouTube, so thank you.
No, I don't even know what I look like. Yeah, all right, do I look all right?
Show the— well, you always look nice. Show the wife, show the wife. What?
I just about blew a kiss and I was like, I don't know who I'm blowing a kiss to.
So you can't have her, she's mine. Oh, you can have her for an hour or two. I'm very understanding, but then you have to give her back. Um, I like her hair. Oh, she's so cute. Oh, exactly.
Keep that one.
Am I able to give you monetary support via e-transfer? I don't give— no, don't worry about it, Happy Glass. The fact that you're watching is support enough. It drives my numbers up. If you click like, that helps as well. Um, but don't worry about it, just enjoy the content. There's no— no one— if are afraid of using credit card online, or if you can't afford it in any way, do not give me any money. Um, she's her own person. She is.
You don't own me.
I want a physical copy of your book, Lisa. Uh, that's not a bad idea. That's not a bad idea. I haven't, I haven't done that yet. I'm in a campsite in the middle of nowhere. Why am I able to get you on Instagram but I can't look at my stats? I don't know. Carol Knott, how do I find you live on YouTube? You go to youtube.com/todmaffinvideo. Or just, or just like search for Tod Maffin on YouTube and you'll be able to find me there. Most of Europe is waiting for Canada to join the EU. We could theoretically join the EU. Not theoretically, we could join the EU.
I think that would be very cool.
Because we do share a border with with Europe, technically. We do. We share a legal border with Denmark. But I don't know. It'd be great if we could, but I don't think it's going to happen. I think they want to keep it to the main geographic core.
Well, I think it would be very smart of us to do that.
I don't mean they can have her, Saltiest Chick. I mean they can borrow her. She's very crafty.
I can fix things.
She can fix all sorts of things.
I know a lot about health and medicine. Yeah, just enough to like probably treat you in a post-apocalyptic setting. Yes, not right now.
Yeah. Did she fix you? More than, more than any of you will ever know. Oh, 100%. 100%. All right, so I need to turn off the— these things from making noise. As much as I— notifications, is that where it is? No, I don't know where any of this stuff is. Alert box settings, maybe? I don't know how any of this works. Oh God, no, I don't want a tutorial. No, I don't think this is what I'm looking for either. Screw it, we'll do it later. We'll do it live. Screw it, we'll do it live. Um, hello Heather, welcome. Heather has her— Heather has her blue bar, which means she has been a member for I think 3 months now. Subscriber for 3 months on YouTube. Thank you very much. Daniel Smith just formally announced Alberta's separatist separation plan.
Oh, come on.
No, I doubt it. Come on, she can't.
It— it—
there is no— there is no legal mechanism for her to do it.
And every province would have to agree.
And every province would have to agree. And it's not— it's treaty land. It's not—
it's— yeah, it's not—
doesn't even— Alberta is a construct. It's not the— it's not the same as like— as like BC even, you know. Like, Alberta is a unique thing in terms of Confederation and its origin. It is almost entirely Tree-land, so they cannot— they can't separate. Take care of your cold. Thank you, Heather. I am trying. I'm trying. I promise. It's not— at this point, it's just the tail end of whatever it was that I had. I sure hope my voice comes back. Now, why is Danielle so confused? Oh, I don't think she's confused at all. I think she knows exactly what she wants to do. And it's horrifying what she wants to do, but I don't think she's confused. I think they are— I think that there was probably a Project 2025 equivalent for them, and they're just going right through it. Ooh, I think I can do it in this button. Nope, I can't. Now I don't know how to get back to the screen that I was at before. Editor?
I don't know.
Alberta's branding, they can't change the label. That's true. "Todd, can you explain the two tiers you have on your website for subscribing?" Sure. So, um, are you referring to the newsletter site? So I'm trying to make it simple. There should only really be one tier now. I used to have three tiers: $3, $7, and $20, and I just consolidated it to $7, a single tier, just to make it simpler. And it's called the Tod Squad. And it should be the same on everywhere. And so with that you get, especially on the newsletter, you get a bunch of stuff. But regardless of where you are, the newsletter site— okay, so Lucy, so if you become a member of the Tod Squad, which is the $7 a month thing, then you get— anyone who gives any amount of money through those sites gets access to the behind-the-scenes videos. So almost every week I do a behind-the-scenes video that only subscribers can see. It's what's happening in our personal life. It's, you know, when we were in Australia, we did daily, almost daily vlogs that only subscribers saw. You know, it's kind of like that sort of an idea. And then you also get a weekly extra bonus episode, or bonus essay. Um, so if you're subscribing on YouTube, you get it as a post. If you're subscribing on Patreon, it gets emailed to you. If you're on the newsletter, it comes to you every Wednesday. Um, and then there's a bunch of stuff that adds in the newsletter. I think, Lucy, what you're talking about on the newsletter site is that there are two areas. There's join the monthly membership, which is $7, or give a one-time donation. Like, some people like me don't like recurring subscriptions. And so if people just want to give $5, there's a place for you to give $5. And if you do that, any amount of money, even $1, in the newsletter site, you will get access to the behind-the-scenes videos for life. Steve on TikTok says, while we are on the topic, I have been asking— I can't see the rest of that text, hang on— asking, can you carry over the discount to yearly? If you're asking on YouTube or on TikTok, I mean, I don't think TikTok does that. I don't think TikTok does that. And TikTokers also get access to the, um, uh, like Silly Hilly, for instance, is a member. You can see they have the little Todd icon beside it. So, um, members get the, the weekly, uh, essay. And I— how do I do that for those folks? I think they're screenshots, to be honest. Now I'm pretty sure that what's going to happen next is that I'm going to put the bonus essay up on a website and then just give the URL of the website to people. I don't know yet. I'm still trying to figure it out. If I go to pay, it shows a discount for monthly, but yearly doesn't. Oh, I see, Steve. Are you talking about— you'll have to tell me on which website. Yeah, are you talking about on the newsletter site? I have to reload the Instagram because it looks like it's frozen there. Um, you'll have to tell me which one. No, I don't want to hear myself. Are you talking? No, I made this mistake. No, stop. Oh my God, it looks like it's— stop! I hate Instagram with a fucking passion. Oh my God, no, I screwed it up, Instagram people. I don't know how to turn this off. Stop. Hang on, I can't mute that one thing. Stop! I hate Instagram with a fucking passion. It is— where's mute? Oh no, I screwed it up. Now there's like 3 levels of me. Oh, fucking Instagram, I hate— I'm sorry, Instagram people, I may have to lose you. Did that work? That may have worked. That may have worked. Anyway, sorry about that. Um, so yeah, so Uh, there isn't a way if you go annual, um, to get an additional discount, but if you are annual on the newsletter, you get a discount. So it's like, it's— you get a $7 discount, uh, if you go annual. Yeah, it is like a bad fever dream, isn't it? Good morning, Joy Tree Hugger from Australia. All right, I think I fixed it again. How concerned should we be by the suggestions that Mark Carney is not being open with his information and budget? I mean, no more than we're concerned about— Oh, Miriam, thank you so much for subscribing on YouTube. No more concerned than other prime ministers. We can't expect the negotiators to be telling us in real time what's going on. That's not how good negotiations work. That's how Trump does it, but he's an idiot. So, you know, we're— I trust the government. To make the best deal. I'm not going to second-guess. I'm not in those rooms. I don't have the experience of diplomatic negotiations. I really wish my voice were better.
Have you drunk any fluids?
Yeah, I'm drinking coffee right now.
No, but like real fluids. Yeah.
Ah! So anyway, it's very— it's frustrating, but I trust them. Perhaps I'm naive, but So many refugee Americans are moving specifically to Nanaimo. What an impact you've had. It is amazing. I mean, Nanaimo speaks for itself, truly. Like, I mean, if I introduce people to it, I'm happy for it, but like, my role in this is very, very minimal because it's very— Stop lying. No, no, no, stop. It really is true because like, it's like also once you've seen Nanaimo and Vancouver Island, sells itself. I can step out at that point. Plus, in the Discord, we have people doing like a lot of the heavy lifting. Lori, Laura, uh, we have 3 different recruiters in there. It's a ton. Peacock and Fig, I'm so— oh, that's you talking to someone else.
And there's some collaboration from the health authorities, and that's the recruiters you mentioned. And it's, it's very cool. It's, um, it's You know, Tod, though, I think the thing you're always so good at is making the space for— like, you, you set up that resource website and the Discord for people to ask questions.
Yeah.
And help each other, which is why it seems to you like you're not doing much, but you're doing enough to help. You're making people able to help each other.
Yeah. Yeah.
That's pretty cool.
How can we trust our big grocery stores with country of origin in the fruits and vegetables sections? Uh, you can't. You know, you have to just— hang on, let me reload YouTube and see if I can start getting those better. Um, no, I can't. Um, I mean, you can't. You just have to— you know what, generally speaking, the more locally owned and independent, uh, the store is, the more access you have to decision makers, right? So, like, if you go up to the produce manager at Walmart, they're gonna nod their head and smile, but they really can't do much for you, 'cause their purchase decisions are made elsewhere. Same, honestly, with Quality Foods. Their purchases are being made by the Pattison Group in another place. So, if you go instead to Country Grocer or to Nanaimo Fruit and Vegetable Market, which are genuinely independent, you will probably get— you'll be able to talk to the people that are actually doing the purchasing. I trust Cardi is not tweeting his negotiations. Exactly, exactly. So I do wish I could figure out how to stop that from making the noise, but alert box settings, I feel like I've done this already. No, I don't think that's it.
YouTube.
Yeah, it's a very complicated setup. It's kind of dumb. We can go to the farmer and buy on the side of the road. Exactly. Alberta Smith just backed a formal separation. This is real. Rally Canadians, don't waste your platform. Hang on, let's check this shit out. If so, I'm gonna do— I see, I don't see it up on CBC yet, so maybe they just haven't had a chance to post it, but I don't see anything yet. I see that Bix Pickles are no longer being stocked. In some places because of the tariffs. Vicks Pickles. Yeah, I was trying to write a, um, uh, Doug, thank you for joining. Uh, that person came in on Buy Me a Coffee, which also— counter tariffs. Yeah, probably.
I was talking to the art store moved yesterday and they said that Canada's counter tariffs and BC's counter tariffs are like very targeted. And, um, thankfully his area of sale— this is like the independent art store in Nanaimo.
Yep.
Is not a target, so they've done okay. But it's really the Americans paying for the tariffs. Yeah, except for all the little countries that have been targeted for tariffs that is like breaking their Boycotting Walmart anyway.
Oh yeah, exactly. Yeah, there are plenty of— Gary's right on Instagram, plenty of Canadian options. Kelly Kelly Kelly says, I'm a bit behind, did your report come out yet? It did, it came out last week, came out a weekend ago, and you can get to it by subscribing to my newsletter, which is join.farendwide.news. And then once you confirm your email, it will send you a link to the report. And then if you want, you can unsubscribe from the newsletter as well immediately. Like, you don't have to pay any money, you don't have to stay on the list, you will not be added to anything, etc., etc. I should actually try to— Bay Dolphin from New Zealand, welcome! I'm gonna put a little link to to that if I can figure out how. Text, text, hello text. No, where's text? There it is. And it's going to say— wait, where do I type?
Here.
Join not far and wide.
News.
And can I move it now? Nope. I don't know what the hell that is. I delete that. There we go. Now we'll make this big. Oh, it's not very clear, is it? Hang on, let's see if I can Here we go. Oh, I don't think I'm doing this right. Oh, oh, drop shadow. Ah, that's better, that's better. All right, so now we can shrink it down properly. Hey, so there you go, there's the, uh, there's the address. Glenna, by the way, if you're still here, thank you for subscribing on YouTube. Thank you so much. Um, hello from Denman Island. Oh, Denman, I love Denman. We stopped dealing with Walmart a while ago.
Oof. Ow. Do you need a pillow? No. Is your ear sore?
It's not— Okay, it's all right again. Is that gas, maybe? Probably.
Do you want some Gas-X?
No. KJ, thank you so much. KJ, oh, that gets in the way of people's name. There we go, there we go. Um, the US is stuck in the Twilight Zone of Hell. We cannot purchase anything that— yep, yeah, it's true, it's true. You know, I mean, Trump still seems to think that it's a tax on other countries, and it is not. It is a tax on his own citizens.
Well, the other tariffs are going to be, but I think most countries have negotiated their way.
Yeah. Oh, Panda's in here.
Hey, Panda.
You should follow Panda if you're interested in climate stuff. Panda has some really interesting stuff about meteorology. You are a meteorologist, aren't you? Meteorology and things like that. And is in sometimes a lot of lives on TikTok, like silly Ilya is. So yeah, alerts and widgets. Maybe it's this. Oh no, I keep clicking that before. No, this way. No, I did that before and it was the wrong thing. Settings, notifications. No, it's not that. I don't— oh, hang on. Oh, hang on, I think this is it. I think I can do it this way and do it that way. Okay, we'll see if that helps. I like making friends and making people laugh. Yeah, exactly. Silly Hilly, how did your craft projects from the McTavish turn out? I have not started the second— the third layer yet.
We could do that today. We could.
Yeah, we could go do painting.
I'm working on linocut printing.
Are you?
Yeah.
When are we gonna burn the White House down again? A little bit of different situation politically right now than it was when we were British and did that and had like the whole Commonwealth government behind our empire. I had one guy from Kentucky, I think, Alabama, anyway, somewhere in the South. I don't even know if those are in the South, but somewhere in the US 'Argue with me that the White House was never burned down in war.' And at first I thought that he was trying to argue the distinction between British and Canadian, which, you know, I guess is kind of a fair point, but we were— they were British forces, but they were Canadian people, essentially, you know. And then I realized he did not know anything about the War of 1812 and did not understand that we burned the White House down. He said it never happened. I'm like— and I don't fault him honestly, because like the US, kids in the US are never taught much about the rest of the world, you know. So as a result, I feel like Americans don't know as much about other places than their White House. So you, you would think they would, but, but that doesn't fit the narrative. Yeah. So, okay, all right, so I will tell you my— one of my secrets. Did I say thank you, KJ? I think I did. Um, so I am working on a very big project. Uh, I'm probably going to pick it up again in a couple of days. Um, It has the potential to go massively viral and it's super fun and it involves at least 3 community groups in and around Vancouver Island. I'm very excited by it. I'm gonna spend money on it and that has become a source of dispute at our marriage.
Not that much dispute.
Not based on how much money I want to spend on it, that's what the dispute is. But we'll see.
I like that. I like— I support you.
Oh, I know, I know you support me. I know. Anyway, now that I bought my laptop, I can't afford anything anyway, so— Need investors? No, this won't make any money. This would be a very foolish investment for you. Thanks, Mackies. It would be a very foolish message. Yeah, it's just something for you to enjoy. I think people enjoy it. I'm actually thinking about getting Dirk to do videoing of it.
You gotta have a thing to video.
I know, I will, I will. The other thing that's happening is I'm going to get my teeth straightened. I am going to get the alignment. A lot of it— part— I mean, to be fair, Part of it is for vanity, but also part of it is because, like, I have really tight teeth in some areas, in some, like, tight areas. And so cleanings are always really difficult. So this will hopefully create room in the areas where it's supposed to, so that it'll be easier for me to clean and floss and all that jazz. But it has the side benefit of, of, excuse me, straightening my teeth. Which is, you know, great. I think I still need to move that down just a little bit, or at least squish this up a little. There we go. But one of the things that the downside of it is that it's— okay, Francis, thanks for coming— is that if you put these, you know, I'm sure you know how these work, right? You put in a tray, they basically, they take a a detailed photo of all of your teeth, and then they know what your teeth should look like at the end, and you get every week a new tray that like just slightly twists them the right way. It's very kind of— it's very medieval sounding, perfectly.
But anyway, um, you'd see the braces people wore before that.
That's true.
That is more like medieval. Yeah.
Um, so I have to sleep with them on for the rest of my life. At night. And I also have— I also did a sleep test and found out that I have severe sleep apnea.
Hooray!
So my mouth is gonna be full of stuff at night. Um, there we go. Alright. Thank you, Maggie. I hope you're not considering this banter be infectious because the only thing this banter is, is infectious in terms of coughing. Is that covered? No, it's cosmetic, so it's not covered under Canadian dental, unfortunately. Yes, so, so private insurance— if you have private insurance through your employer or your spouse does, it will cover part of it, not all of it, because again, but it's not covered under the Canadian medical system or the new Canadian dental program. It's not covered under that because it's cosmetic. For instance, Botox, when used cosmetically, is not covered. Botox, when used medically, is covered.
Botox for like making your forehead look smoother, it's considered cosmetic, so it's not used Yeah, yeah.
Will you be sharing world news, says Mandy, with the US in your Far and Wide newsletter? I mean, there's a little bit of world news in it, but it's mostly Canadian news. It's mostly Canadian news in there. Kind of what I wanted to do with it was to do— to like have a bunch of news stories that people haven't seen in different categories. So like if you're interested in animals, there's an animal section. If you're interested in Indigenous stories of Canada, there are Indigenous stories. The stuff that didn't really make the news. Like, I'm not going to be— in the newsletter, I don't really cover the top headlines. You know, I cover the bear that got a university degree and, you know, stuff like that. So, we'll see. As a kid, MomoCraft says, I had braces 3 times. It didn't work. My fault because I didn't wear the retainer all the time.
Yeah, your parents must have been so mad.
Yeah, I've got to— yeah, I got to do that. It'll be, it'll be interesting. I don't know why I didn't do it. I did get a quote for it when I was in my 30s. And I just never followed through. I'm not sure why I didn't follow through. I guess I wasn't as vain as I am now. Something. So, we'll see. We'll see what happens. We had our first member-only live hangout. So for members, I do a live monthly hangout over Zoom. It's actually over Google Meet, but whatever. And there were some really good questions in there. I told those people what the secret project was. It was good Q&A. I showed them my list of upcoming stories. So it was fun to do. I really liked that. Not many people show up. There's like maybe a dozen people or something like that. Hello from the Cusp! Hey, the Cusp!
Oh, I love the Cusp. It's great.
The Cusp is great.
Mountain biking. Kootenays are God's favorite place, I'm convinced.
Yes, yeah, definitely. Well, I think I might get offline. I was mostly just testing to see what— someone suggested I do this Ninja Chat, which might be a way for me to see all the, all the, uh, because the, the current system that I have here for seeing live comments is simply not working at all. It's just a blank screen, which is kind of a pain. So anyway, well, thank you all for joining me. Um, I will see you again soon. I will be doing more of these. I just don't know when. I apologize to the Facebook people whose comments I cannot see.
