In this brief video, Tod Maffin introduces himself as a small‑business owner and expresses enthusiasm for attending the MESA BC Conference in the Comox Valley, Courtenay, BC, from September 19‑22, 2024. He highlights the conference theme—people, tools, and technology—explaining how, in his experience, the rapid pace of tools, APIs, security patches, and regulatory demands can eclipse the human element of business. He promises to share lessons on preserving humanity while leveraging technology, and looks forward to learning from other attendees and meeting them in person.

I'm Tod Maffin. I'm looking forward to being with you for the MESA BC Conference, September 19th to 22nd in beautiful Comox Valley in Courtney, BC, where my family is as well, so it'll be nice to get back there. And your theme is so important: people, tools, and technology. And I run a small business. We have staff. We've got regulatory issues we deal with our clients. And so in sometimes the chaos of tools and technologies and APIs and securities and patches and all those regular stuff that we all suffer through with IT, Sometimes the other part of your theme, the people side, gets forgotten. When I'm with you in September, I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of the things we've learned about how to still bring some humanity back to business without losing that really important component of all of the business advantage that you get from technology. It really is a merger between people, tools, and technology. That's why when I saw your theme, people, tools, and technology, that it just made so much sense to me. Looking forward to sharing what I know, looking forward to hearing what you know, and on September 19th to 22nd in Courtney, I'm looking forward to meeting you.
