So yesterday I made a video about the different types of voting: ranked choice, single transferable vote, and one of them was approval voting, where basically every ballot you can choose as many candidates as you want. You put a mark by the ones that you approve of, and it was my favorite. And I mentioned that lots of jurisdictions do this, including the city of Fargo, North Dakota. Except not anymore, because guess what party vetoed the ability to do that? Yes, it is the Republicans in the state of North Dakota. Just passed a bill in both the House and the Senate to ban the use of approval voting. Why? Because they worry that progressives might get in, and you know those progressives, they're terrible, terrible people. Anyway, it's waiting for the governor to sign. We don't know if he will or not, but he's Republican, so fucking of course he will. I hate this world.
