The Long-Form Census but for Americans

Tod Maffin created a 70-question survey after Canada stopped publishing its long-form census. The Canadian version got over 26,000 responses. He then launched a U.S. version asking Americans what they think of Canada, Celine Dion, and whether they'd support annexation.

When 3/4 of Canadians didn't get the long-form census, many of us were upset. And that's because we are, at our core, a nation of nerds. Tell a Canadian that geese are nice and we'll ask what your methodology was. So, as a public service, I made my own national long-form census. 70 questions in 9 categories. I asked what Canadians really wanted to know. Does Tim Hortons suck now? How are we feeling about Gretzky? Does ketchup belong on KD? Now, most public opinion polls use a sample size of 1,000, maybe 2,000. The CBC says a sample size of 4,000 is really big. As of the date I'm recording this video, more than 26,000 people have completed my census. Now, I'll publish the results in my newsletter in a couple of weeks, but this surprised me: Americans wanted to take my census too! Which is weird, 'cause the US isn't exactly known for just taking things that don't belong to it. So there is now a census for our American friends. It is at us.todmaffin.com. It's a little different than the Canadian one. It asks how you feel about Canadians. Whether you think we are a socialist hellhole. Whether Celine Dion is a national security threat. It also tests your Canadian knowledge. Who's our head of state? How much do you think we pay in taxes? What do Canadians call that thing that you folks call Canadian bacon? And of course, the important questions: Do you support annexing us? Would you move here if you could? And if you could send a one-sentence notification to the screen of every Canadian's phone, what would you say? I'll publish some of the highlights here on social, and the full dataset for my supporting members of my newsletter, which you can get at newsletter.todmaffin.com. Now, this doesn't collect any personal information, it doesn't ask for your name or your email, I can't see your IP address, you are completely anonymous. One more thing: the number of people filling out my Canadian census briefly crashed the service that I use for this, and there are 10 times as many of you Americans as us, so if the site crashes, just come back to it in a couple of hours. It's about 100 questions, so it'll take a bit of time, but have at it. US.TodMaffin.com. Enjoy.
