In this informal walking‑tour video, the hosts (Speaker A and Speaker B) guide viewers along Nanaimo’s waterfront, introducing a series of nearby attractions within a short 3‑4 minute walk from downtown. They point out the Coast Bastion Inn, the waterfront Mexican restaurant Penny’s Palapa, Troller’s Fish and Chips, a candy‑and‑ice‑cream shop (featuring Nanaimo Bar ice cream), a souvenir shop, and a seaplane lounge that also houses a pub. The narration mentions the ability to book whale‑watching tours, the presence of an American flag on the dock, and the nearby islands (Satsun/ Newcastle Island and Protection Island). The boardwalk leads to Maféo Sutton Park, which includes a large inclusive playground, a swimmable beach (Sueyolano Lagoon), and a food‑truck area. The hosts propose a community gathering in the park during Pride Week and reference a popular brewpub (Whitetail) across the street. Personal touches include greetings to friends Kondro and Jocelyn, a note that the speakers are from Florida, and a teaser for a future tour of Westwood Lake.
Here's your downtown tour of the Nanaimo waterfront with our friend Kondro and my wife Jocelyn.
Oh, by the way, if you're curious like how close this is to downtown, that's downtown, right? That's the start of downtown, so you're good. What are you guys doing? Also, if you want to be close to the water, the Coast Bastion Inn is like right here. Do you like the ocean? Do you like Mexican food? Then you're gonna come down this gangway thing. It's not open right now until April, and this is Penny's Palapa's full-service Mexican restaurant, right, and taco window right on water. Also on the water is Troller's Fish and Chips. I'm not certain if they'll be open in April, but this is really good fish and chips. Hey, I just realized there's an American flag on the dock too. Coffee shop, candy and ice cream store. Yes, there is Nanaimo Bar ice cream. Dogs are more than welcome on the boardwalk. This is where you can book some whale watching tours. Hi, buddy! More desserts, more Nanaimo Bars, a tea shop. This is the only souvenir shop that I am aware of. This is also where the seaplanes come in, and the lounge where you wait for the seaplanes, it has a pub and restaurant. Hey, there's one coming in right now. And this is, say, Satsun Island used to be called Newcastle Island, and this is Protection Island. All of this that I've shown you, by the way, is like a, like a 3 or 4 minute walk. And the boardwalk leads right to Mafuyu Satsun Park. This is Sueyolano Lagoon. It is a, uh, swimmable beach. Let's play is it a beaver or is it a log? It's a log! Okay, sorry I took the long way around. We are now entering Maféo Sutton Park, which is our downtown park. It's really, really big. This is one of our inclusive playgrounds. It's for kids with disabilities, it's for regular kids and everything, and it's actually really, really big. Okay, I'm still working on timing, but Saturday at some point, hopefully in the morning, the only like official event that I want to have happen is I want everyone to gather in the park, or as many people as can that aren't busy. And see this, like, wouldn't that be a cool place to get a picture taken of all of us? And right beside that is an area where there's usually lots of food trucks. Hey USA, I'm from Florida living in Nanaimo.
Come see us! For Pride Week.
And right across the street from the park is Whitetail, very popular brew pub. This dude out here by himself singing.
Okay, that's it. I think the next one I'm gonna do is Westwood Lake, so stay tuned for that.
