In this vlog update, Tod Maffin reports on his ongoing project to invite up to 2,000 Americans to visit his small Canadian city, Nanaimo. He recounts discovering mixed reactions on Facebook—some users criticizing his claim that Nanaimo is clean—while noting that the platform and YouTube have amplified his visibility. Tod shares that over 2,000 people have indicated a >50% likelihood of attending, and his personal target is 200 visitors for a single weekend, which could noticeably boost the local economy given the city’s 1,300 hotel rooms. He reveals that two local groups are planning a large, undisclosed event for the weekend. Tomorrow, he will meet with city officials and Tourism Nanaimo to seek forgiveness and approval for the influx. He highlights the growth of a dedicated Discord server (b.link/nanaimodiscord) organized by activity, featuring local ambassadors covering LGBTQ topics, mountain biking, and recent US immigration experiences. Additionally, he has produced TikTok videos guiding viewers on how to travel to Nanaimo and use BC Ferries, linking these resources in his bio. The update ends with anticipation for the upcoming meetings and a promise to provide further updates.

72 hours ago, I invited Americans up to my small city in Canada, and 2,000 of them are coming. This is update number 4 for those people. So guys, Facebook found us. I don't have a Facebook account, but I got in there to see, 'cause someone tipped me off. You know what they were mad about? 'Cause you know Facebook's pretty toxic. So they, my Nanaimo found one of the many groups. They weren't, were they mad? No, they weren't mad. Were they like, this is a great idea? No, they weren't that either. You know what they were fixated on? In my first video, I said that Canada was clean. Dozens of comments debating, like, why would this guy say Nanaimo is not very clean? Fucking Facebook, man. Before I tell you what happens tomorrow, I want to share something kind of somewhat secret. I've been contacted by two groups in Nanaimo that want to do something very big. Um, I'm not going to say what it is yet because for obvious reasons, but big things might actually happen on this weekend. Okay, tomorrow is Tuesday, and tomorrow is the day I go to the city and I beg forgiveness and and then I go to Tourism Nanaimo and I beg forgiveness as well. And I hope that they'll be receptive to this. Here's where the numbers stand right now. We have more than 2,000 people saying that they have a better than 50% chance, like they're most likely going to come. My personal goal is 10% of that. If 200 people come on a single weekend, that will have a noticeable effect on our city's economy. We have 1,300 hotel rooms in this city. Oh, you know who else found me? YouTube found me. I had no idea how many incels were on YouTube. It's bizarre. The difference between comments on TikTok and comments on YouTube is like— Our Discord is really taking shape. It's at b.link/nanaimodiscord. We have categories in there, like channels in there that have like, they're organized by activity. And there's 4 or 5 special channels where there's a host in there. There's like a guide or an ambassador or whatever, like a local person about that topic. So we have someone from the LGBTQ community. We have someone who's a mountain biker. We have someone who, recently moved from the US, immigrated from the US, and is happy to answer questions about how that process worked. So that's in our Discord. Um, it's starting to hop. Uh, in the last 2 days I did videos here on TikTok in my profile about how to get to Nanaimo and, um, and also how to use BC Ferries. Um, so if you haven't seen those show up in your feed, uh, click my bio link and, uh, and they're on there. Okay, that's it. Tomorrow's a big day. I will update you later.
