Hey, this is Tom from Podotize with another tip to prevent you from falling victim to hosting hijackers. And again, there are many ways that your podcast host may be hijacking your.
Traffic from your listening app, trying to get your listeners to leave the listening.
App, in this case the Apple podcasts app on iPhone and go to their website instead of yours. So I'm showing you an example show here and I've just searched for the show in the app and I'm going to scroll past the episodes and past.
The ratings and reviews the about information.
And get down to the beginning where you have all sorts of information about the show here. And this last one is the show website and it'll bring up a pop up window and go to the web.
Here when I click on it.
And you'll see that where it's taking you is to this show on Spotify for podcasters, which is the former anchor.
Who was hosting their show on anchor.
Now is on Spotify for podcasters. They've rebranded it and anchor has always done this.
They are putting in a link to your show on their website and replacing.
You know, that link which should go to your own website. And what's frustrating for a listener is.
I was just listening on Apple podcast desktop app and I wanted to get more information.
I wanted to go to the show's website instead of going to the show's website. And the show does have a website. It takes me to Spotify for Podcasters.
And not only that, it's trying to.
Solicit me as a listener to go.
Get the Spotify for Podcasters app instead.
Of, you know, listening on Apple Podcasts, which is where I wanted to listen. So there is a place in your.
Anchor show settings where you can put in the web URL for your own.
Website, a real website. And if you do not have a real website for your podcast, you're going to want to go to the landing page in this series about your home.
Base and make sure you do get.
A website for your show. It is very important to do that.
But it's more important to make sure.
That your host is not hijacking your.
Traffic and preventing your listeners from engaging.
With you, from interacting with you. So that's, that's it for this tip. And obviously there's more in this special series. Hope you enjoy it. And if you have any questions, reach out to us@politize.com.
