How To use Social Media Algorithms to Share Your Podcast

Tracy Hazzard walks through how podcasters can leverage social media to grow their audience. Pick one platform, learn its algorithm, then expand. Focus on answering the specific questions your niche audience is asking, not chasing trends.

The use of social media for podcasting is essential. If you don't share your show, no one's going to know to listen. So of course you want to use social media to share out your show. However, social media is its own animal, right? It's got algorithms and so many different platforms to choose from. And it's a lot to take in and take on when you're already learning something new like podcasting. So what we recommend here is in the beginning, do two things. One, stay true to your content. You know what people want to hear, you're working on that while you're in social media. You see what people are talking about in your niche and in your area, the questions that they ask back. So stay true to your content, stay true to what the trends are going on in your industry and how you can be of service to that. Remind them of episodes that you have post, pushing that out and creating a new episode when you see something, staying true to the content side of it. The second thing that we recommend is to stay simple, keep it simple and podcast only in one platform. Or I'm going to say share your podcast with its primary sharing experimentation happening in one platform. So if you think that your listeners are in LinkedIn, then start with LinkedIn and that's where you experiment, test and play with how you share your show on social media and see if you can get more visibility, more engagement, more traction with it, more listeners, eventually see what you can do to play with that. Every single social media platform has a different algorithm and it's a giant rabbit hole to figure that out. So get one working and then when you figure that out, you have a better understanding of how your content, your particular podcast type and that social media platform work together. When you've got that dialed in, then you can try the next platform and play with it until you get it right. We find that it's different types of posts on different types of platforms. So it's so much easier to go for one first, play with it, experiment within it, get it right, and then move on to the next. But remember, if you're always staying true to your content from the beginning of what your audience really wants to hear and listen, it's going to be so much easier for you to figure out what to share and how to share it later. So keep it simple in social media. Don't over stress about it and stress about playing with it, and just know that sharing your show is the most important thing, right? Reminding people that you have a show, that you produced an episode that's all that really matters about the combination of podcasting and social media. In the beginning, you can get more advanced as your social media gets more advanced. We have some masterclasses on this. We have a starter masterclass and an advanced masterclass, and they're linked right here in the resource library for you. So you can make sure that if you'd like a deeper dive into any of these subjects, we've got an hour long masterclass for you on each one. So take advantage of those if you're looking for more detailed information. Information.
