Submitting Your Podcast RSS to YouTube Music

Tracy Hazzard demonstrates how to submit an audio-only podcast RSS feed to YouTube Music via YouTube Studio, aimed at podcasters who do not already publish video. She walks through entering the RSS URL, verifying ownership (verification email goes to the RSS-listed owner), choosing which episodes to import, and important settings such as marking paid promotions and adjusting visibility and per-episode metadata. The video explains that YouTube creates static-image videos from cover art for each episode and contrasts this method with converting an existing video playlist into a video podcast.

So I wanted to discuss about submitting your podcast as an rss feed to YouTube music. This is the new place because we can't do Google Podcasts anymore. Everything is moving to YouTube music. So this is specifically for those of you who do not already have a video show. I already have a video playlist and podcast and that already exists. But if you do not, if you only have an RSS feed, you only syndicate your show via audio or you've never loaded it into YouTube before. This is a simpler way to do it and it's quick and easy and it loads everything from your RSS feed directly. So this is the way to get on YouTube Music because Google Podcasts no longer exists. So you need to go to your channel. I'm on the Poditize channel. I'm going to go to YouTube studio. So you go to the studio and you go to the content tab. So you go down to the content section and you go to podcasts. Now, as I mentioned, I already have feed your brand loaded in here. Feed your brand is a video podcast. This was not loaded. Never loaded in from in RSS feed. I'm going to do that for a different show right now to demonstrate this to you. So you would go up to the top and create one. Now, here's the thing. I think there's a plus sign down here. If you don't have any shows at all, it has your plus sign down here and you could click right here and add your podcast right there. Go to create Go new podcast. Here you are. You're gonna be either set an existing playlist as a podcast, and that's for those of you who already have a video podcast as a playlist on your YouTube channel. That's where you would go. That's a totally different tip. We have that tip for you@podcasters united.org so that's linked in this tip as well, in case that's really where you need to be. However, today I'm talking about submitting an RSS feed. So that's what we're going to do. We're going to go to submit an RSS feed. Here's the thing, it's a slight bit different in the RSS feed side of things because it's really only using the information that's in your feed. It's not going to add anything else. It's not really. It's creating enough for you to edit the title and description, but that's about it. So you won't be able to adjust a lot of things that you can adjust when you submit your episode into your RSS to begin with. So anything that might be wrong with it, you've got to fix it at the RSS feed level. That's going to be the easiest way. But what YouTube is doing here is they're creating a video. They're creating a static image video with your cover art. And so for each episode, they're going to create the static image video and upload it to your channel. So it's not really as exciting or dynamic as a video. So if you've already got a video show, you're going to want to use that instead and do not syndicate this way. However, if you do not have a video, this is the next best thing for you to be able to do because it's creating a video for you. So you would enter your RSS feed URL here. I already have my URL because I've already gotten it from. Oops, did not copy over like it was supposed to. Sorry, I will copy it again. And this is my RSS feed. And if you don't know what it looks like, it looks like this crazy amount of text, right? So I'm going to load that in right here. And so it says feeds.com. it usually has RSS in it. This is where it is on Potatise. And you can get that from your portal if you don't know how. We've got it to do a tip for how to do that, a tutorial for how to do that. From there you're going to go to the next stage. You're going to get a verification code. And so I've got a bump out here. Okay. And now it's letting me verify. Now here's the key there. If you are not the owner, if your podcast manager is the owner of it, if you have a co host and they're the owner of it, whose ever email address is listed in the RSS feed as the owner of the podcast is going to get that verification email. This is to prevent you from accidentally and or purposefully stealing somebody's podcast, right? So that you can't put somebody's podcast that's not yours onto it. So by default, this is how it's going to look. It's going to be on RSS feed. It's going to be automatically. You can choose to load all episodes. You can choose to old episodes. I'm actually going to only do.
Like since January only because I don't want this to take forever for us. And then you're going to want to Check down. But I would upload all episodes episodes in the RSS feed if this was my full. You must disclose this paid promotion box must be checked. I am told by YouTube that if you do not check this box and you have paid promotion advertising, you can get your podcast and your whole episodes, all your episodes shut down. So if you are making any calls to action paid promotions where you're paid to advertise for something, it's okay to talk about your own stuff, like, oh, I've got a book coming out and you know, things like that, those are fine. But when you're offering a link to that you were paid to promote something, then you must disclose it here and you must click this box that says episodes from my RSS feed contain paid promotion. Now you want to check it. Even if one or two of your episodes have that, not just all of it, because otherwise you won't have an ability to edit that later. I'm going to check it. Even though that's not the case. I don't actually take paid promotions on my and then it's going to do a visibility check and it's just going to complete this. So it's going to save this. And it says, oh, I've you've created a podcast, so go view your podcast. And so here it is. So you can see it loading in and you can see how the difference is this one's set for private right now and my feed your brand one is currently public. I'm going to show you quickly while we're waiting for that to process what feed your brand looks like. Because feed your brand videos look like actual videos, right? Because that's what they actually are.
This. There's all these different videos that we've loaded in. They're actually the same as our podcast, but we have full video because we record video and audio at the same time. We just publish them this way into our our YouTube channel. And we've been doing that for all 300 plus episodes or something that we've done on these. So we have quite.
340 episodes. We have quite been doing this for quite some time. That's where we converted what was already a feed your brand playlist into a podcast. And that was super simple. It took like two minutes and it just converted it over and now it runs that way. However, we load new videos up one by one here. We do not rely on the RSS feed to process that for us. So this is how this is kind of is coming through here. I'm going to give it a minute and I'm going to pause and allow this to process and I'll come right back and show you what it looks like when it's done.
This is what it looks like. Once you've loaded up the podcast, you can see it says RSS on it and it is set for private. So you do have to go in and edit that and make it public.
By editing it, clicking the button and doing that. So you can change its visibility to public to unlisted. You can fix any of the videos, like you can change their name or do anything, and you can set them all. If you set the whole thing public, I believe that it will set it public. I don't think you have to set this differently. Let's check that and see what we do here. Let's check it. I'm going to check it unlisted and then we'll check and see if all the videos. Nope, they aren't. So you will have to go and check them as well. Okay, so make sure you go ahead and do that and check and release all of your videos. Make them all public. I just put them unlisted here because I already have the binge factor on another channel. And then just double check and make sure everything comes through okay, that everything looks good, that it has what you want.
And then it has the details. Remember when we entered in the paid promotion and I didn't check it this time because I found that they take a lot longer for it to upload when you have paid promotion on there. So it takes about a day anyway to do it. But it could take even longer if you've got any of your videos. And then remember you can go right in here and you can mark them right from this video. So you can mark them with.
When you go down here to paid promotion. My video contains paid promotion like product placement, sponsorship or endorsements. So if you've got an ad that's baked into your video, you want to click that button for sure. Also taking very seriously the altered content. So if you have any AI or you have any where you alter someone, like you're doing just a few fake news segment or anything like that makes a realistic scene that didn't occur, then you must log it here. It's okay to be able to do that, but you have to label it and then they will label it. You can click Automatic Chapters where it will automatically give you. It can do also the things of Automatic Concepts. I've pre entered these tags. You should have tags obviously, but these things are also coming through from the RSS feed and from your channel. So you're getting them from both places here. These are in my channel. They're not necessarily in that video.
And then it's got its original release date and everything else here. So you can adjust anything you want and you can do it by video.
So just wanted to make sure that.
You understand now what that looks like. And so if you look at your channels now, you're going to have both of them. See, mine still says unlisted, but it says rss, and that's the important part. And then you should have a total video count that matches whatever it is that you already have in your feedback. It.
