Change Is Not Enough?!

Dieting and exercise alone fail because they don't change who you are. The speaker uses a triangle-to-circle metaphor: you can rotate the triangle, but you stay a triangle until you become a circle. Real transformation requires shifting your identity to someone who is naturally fit and healthy, not just thinner.

The catch for most of us, which you may have experienced yourself, is many of us will do this and we, we know how to lose weight. Like, you're all here because, oh, Ty said I can lose 10 to 20 pounds and so on and still enjoy Christmas and all the rest of it. But most of you really, long before coming here, you knew what to do to lose weight or what it is that works well for you for losing weight and so on. Most of us know that. The catch is we don't do it, or we do it, we get the result, and then we stop doing it and we end up back where we were. Now, the reason for this is because many of us operate in this place of thinking that change is enough. The problem is I'm not interested in providing change for you. I want transformation, not for me, for you, because it's your life, your body. Like, it doesn't matter. You can sit and eat 50 cakes. I don't get fatter. So it's not about me. It's about you hopefully using me as your vessel for for guidance to get to a point of transformation in yourself. Now, what I mean by this is we can't chase change because in a, in a simple model, if we looked at it like, okay, well, let's say right now, for argument's sake, you are this triangle. Now you come along, you start your new diet, and you start taking action, and over time your body starts to change, and all of a sudden you look like this. You're no longer this way up, you've turned on the side. So ultimately, we've got change here. Perfect. Then what happens is over time, you keep going, you try again, and now we've changed once more. I know this isn't a very good triangle, bear with me, I'm not very good with a pen. So we've got that. And then again, we might continue and we're still taking some action and we get a few more results. And now, essentially, we've become this. Now in reality, I'm 180 degrees different to what I was before. The catch-22 is I'm still a fucking triangle. And if I maintain identity as a triangle, that means I'm going to do the things that triangles do, and eventually end up continuing to rotate till I'm back here. So what I actually need to do rather than focus on change is go, cool, today I'm a triangle. But my goal is to become a circle, because circles don't do what triangles do. So this is no different from ultimately saying, oh, well, this is a person who identifies as overweight, or I hate myself, I hate my body, I hate the way it looks, I hate the way it feels, I'm embarrassed about it, I'm ashamed about it, and so on. And they will make physical changes, they'll get changes in the outcome and how their body appears, but there's no change on the inside, no change in the mind, no change in the heart, no change in the way they see themselves. So even though they're taking different actions their persona is still that of the fat person, so they stay here rather than going, okay, cool, well, currently I'm fat, I'm overweight, I'm unhealthy, I'm unfit, or whatever the problem is. Rather than go, well, that's what I am, but my goal is to operate in a way that's going to allow me to become a lean person. Then by the time I get to being fit, lean, strong, healthy, and having the results that I want, being able to eat what the fuck I want when I want without transitioning back to here because I've learned how to take responsibility, take care of myself. I know what my body responds well to. Once I'm at that point, I now see myself as a fit, lean, strong, healthy person. So therefore, I do the things that fit, lean, strong, healthy people do without having to fight it. I no longer have to struggle or stress or strain or feel overwhelmed doing these things because it's just who I am. I have become the triangle. I've become the fit, healthy, lean person, not just in appearance, but in, in sense of who I am showing up as on a daily basis. Who I am being is now this. It's no longer representative of the old version of me. So that's what we're looking to do. We're trying to essentially change who we are at the core. Now we can still be the same person, we can have the same friends and so on, but the way we show up and act is different. You know, so that's, that's what we're, that's what we're looking for. That's why we get stuck, is because we all want change, but we want everything to stay the same. And if you stay stuck in that idea, then you will stay stuck in your old results, whether you change or not and see differences and so on. We always end up back where we are, or what we do is we will achieve this new result in body. Cool, I'm here and I managed to maintain this. But then what I do, because I'm not actually happy still, I still haven't actually become that person, it's still a stress, it's still a strain. Now the stress and strain of that and me maintaining that starts to bleed into other areas of my life. My ability to make money, produce, keep a roof over my head, and so on starts to dwindle, or my relationships start breaking down because I'm struggling in this relationship with myself, struggling to maintain all the habits, struggling to maintain any desire for myself, any happiness with myself and so on, and contentness within me, that it starts to bleed into my relationships. So I start picking on my partner and finding fault with her because I'm still fucked off about the fault in myself. Or I start taking out on my kids and my frustrations and my anger and so on, not because they are really a problem, but because I am still refusing to change who I am and who I need to be. So therefore, this process is still continuing to be a fight rather than just something that is natural to me because I've let go of this original version. We have to essentially die to who we are now so that the new version of us can be reborn. Now I know that's some, like, some heavy shit. It's like, come on, Tyrone, what do you mean I need to die? We don't literally need to die, but energetically we need to die because energetically who we're showing up as is a person that has led us to this place of being overweight, unhealthy, out of shape, and Finding we can't fully ever experience or enjoy a particular— sorry, we can't ever fully enjoy a particular experience such as Christmas, the festive season, New Year, because we feel guilty about it. If I indulge, I feel guilty. I shouldn't have done that. If I don't indulge, I feel guilty because I didn't take part and I was boring and everyone thought I was the party pooper. So that's no good. We need to let go of who we're currently being because it's not serving us. Not because it's bad and we hate it and, and, um, oh, in, in that case, if this person that I am right now is bad and horrible and all the rest of it, that means I've been a shitty person. It's not that. It's a case of, thank you for what you've done so far. Thank you for getting me as far as you have, but now I need to let you go because I'm now meant for more. I need more. I want more. So therefore, I'm going to have more. And that's what it's after. It's a case of acknowledging where you're at, acknowledging both what's working and what's not, so that we can go, okay, well, the stuff that's working, I can keep doing. The stuff that's working, I can maintain in my life. But the stuff that isn't, that's the stuff I'm going to work on, and I'm no longer going to allow this to be a problem for me. So that's why I'm now deciding I'm no longer a triangle and I'm going to become a circle. So I hope that model makes sense to you guys. Just realized I don't I don't really have a rubber here, this will do. But that's essentially what we want. Change is temporary, transformation is permanent. So that's something we need to bear in mind, which of course essentially comes under the idea of our metabolic mindset. We need to shift this idea from, oh, I'm gonna do this for a little while until, no, no, you're going to find a way to do this that feels natural to you, that's not forced. Yes, in the early stages it might feel a bit forced and a bit awkward and, and difficult and challenging, and I have to think so much and so on. Sometimes it is like that because it's so different from what we've been doing. But like anything, if we commit to it enough and not only just commit to it, accept that this is the reality of where we really want to be and find the positives in it. Most of us always see the negatives. Oh, well, that means I've got to give up this and I've got to sacrifice that and I have to Like, tell me, if I'm fat, lethargic, tired, overweight, and I now give that up to be fit, lean, strong, and healthy, vital, full of energy, full of abundance, confidence, self-esteem, where was the sacrifice? I don't see— I don't, I don't get it. That doesn't make sense to me. So sacrifice really, for many of us, is an illusion. It's something we tell ourselves to justify staying where we are. And of course, many of us don't really want to be where we are. We're just familiar with that discomfort, so we allow it to persist. But when we want something different and we truly decide we want something different, then we start showing up and acting differently. So
