Have you earned the right to be unhappy with your progress?

You don't get to be frustrated with your progress unless you've actually done the work. If you're skipping nutrition, movement, and recovery, that's on you. But if you're fully committed and still stuck, that's worth investigating and adjusting your approach.

Have you earned the right to be unhappy with your progress? Now, I ask this question because, um, I often get a lot of clients, they'll get so far into their journey and they get to this point where obviously results start to slow down because the body learns to adapt and so on. And they start to become unhappy with the progress that they're making. Or it's a case of they'll, several months ago, will have set these big goals. You know how it is for most people, like New Year's, for example, we set New Year's resolutions and all the rest of it. And then we get to this point in the year and you're kind of like, oh, are you happy with your progress so far? And often the answer is no. Now, it's fine that the answer is no, but how you feel about it is important to consider because most people are like, I'm unhappy with my progress. Pisses me off, makes me angry. I feel sad. I'm fucking— I almost feel a bit guilty because I maybe should have done more and so on. So we end up with all of these negative emotions around the fact that we're not happy with the progress that we've got. But what we have to be careful of is identifying whether we actually have earned the right to be unhappy with our results. Now, what I mean by this is if you haven't been showing up for yourself regularly on a regular basis, doing the things you know you need to do. So let's face it, if we're talking about health, we know we need to eat better quite often. Often we'll need to move more or move effectively and in a way that's specific to the outcomes that we want. We might have to improve our recovery and so on. There are certain things that are required in order for us to earn the result or the outcome that we want, whether that's weight loss or improvements in health, reversal of chronic disease and illness. So there are things we need to do. But if we haven't been doing those things, then technically you don't deserve or you haven't earned the right to be unhappy. You don't deserve to be unhappy because you didn't earn it. You didn't put in the effort. So it's different if we're putting in the effort. I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be doing and I still can't seem to achieve this thing. Then we can say, okay, well, maybe actually you have been trying fucking hard. You've been doing all the things you need to do, everything that everyone's telling you. You've been doing all these things, you've been putting in the effort and still not getting the result. Yeah, perhaps you've earned the right to be a little bit unhappy about this. Now, when we're in that point, it's obviously important for us to go, okay, well, why is it I'm not getting results even though I'm doing all the things? Now, of course, quite often we might have to we might have to expand the things that we're doing. We might have to look a bit deeper into what's obviously preventing us from getting the result. And then we may have to increase or decrease the number of things that we're doing and focus our time, effort, and attention in different areas in order to get that specific outcome. But we just have to be careful not to disrupt our emotional state too much or automatically select the negative feeling state. I want to feel like shit. I'm unhappy. I'm pissed off. For not getting the results when I haven't really been doing the fucking work. I've spent my time in this struggle, which feels like I've been putting in effort, but the struggle I've actually been in is trying to get myself to do the things, not actually doing the things to get the result. So that's just something for you guys to think about. You know, if you are a bit unhappy with where you're at with your progress right now, kind of sit back and reflect and go, okay, well, I'm unhappy with my progress, but is that because I've been putting in the effort but not getting the result? Or is it actually I'm unhappy with myself because I haven't been putting in the effort that I know I should have in order to have gotten the result that I said that I wanted? And for, for the majority of us, that's what it is. We're not doing the things we keep saying we're going to do. We're not showing up for ourselves. We're not showing up as an adult or as a man of integrity that says, I'm going to do this, so therefore I'm going to get this particular result because I'm going to show up daily and do the things I need to do. So that's all I'll leave you guys with today. And have a little think on that. If you've got any questions or you want me to expand on anything in particular for yourselves, or if you've got questions, let me know in the comments below and I will get those answered for you as soon as I can. Look forward to chatting with you tomorrow, people. Take it easy.
