How to: Double Leg Takedown with The Dump - Grappling & Ground Fight

Master Wong demonstrates a double-leg takedown combined with a dump that lands you in side-mount control. Lunge at 45 degrees, clasp the hands, lift deep, twist your hips, and drive them to the floor in one motion. Stay close, commit fully, and use your shoulder to dump them.

What's up guys, welcome back to another lesson in the Master Wong Grappling Ground Fight System. In today's lesson, we're going to be talking through the double leg takedown with the dump. So with this one, you're looking to again come inside your opponent's attack and scoop him up, spin him out of position, and then just dump him on the floor with your shoulder. With this one, you should land in side mount, and then obviously from there you've got the option to go into full mount, or obviously you can just continue to beat him up from the side. The choice is yours once you're there. Just depends on obviously who your opponent is and where he's good, and obviously where you're good. So if I put Rory in that, I'll show you what I mean. So with this one, basically off his 1-2, you're looking to come directly through his stance. So this leg, I literally lunge through his stance and I look to get here. My head goes directly against his body. So it doesn't matter if he was to hit, if I come into position and I end up here, like in front of him, that's fine also. It doesn't have to be on the side, but I'm looking to be sort of at 45. So I don't want to be directly in front or on the side, I'm somewhere in the middle. So then when I apply pressure with my head in a moment, that will help and aid me in turning his body out of position. So I go 1, 2, here, step through, this knee drops down, briefly touches the floor. That should be me in position, my hands clasp up, and I step in. So from there, it's easy to pick him up. If I leave him too far away and I don't commit enough, I'll be here. Now I'm having to lean forward from my hips or from my back in order to reach him because I'm not here, obviously. And now when I try to pick him up, I'm all off balance and likely to lose it. So I have to come in, catch him nice and deep, and then continue to go up and forward with it. So I go 1, 2, here. So my chest goes directly against his hip and thigh, my head is on his body, and I'm there. Then I can pick him up. One thing to note in our system, this knee isn't just putting you in position, it's also striking. So when I'm here and I go 1, 2, I come through, this knee looks to land directly here. Now his foot isn't always going to be there, but if it is, I'd like to hit. So I'm looking to be here, catch, and then go up. So you cause some kind of pain or distraction on your way into the takedown, basically. So if Nat was to punch me and I was to come here, that's why I've got JKD type stuff. So I might be here, he punches, boom, I hit, this comes across, I strike, and then I would either get away or continue to spar and fight with him. So that's where this principle comes from, from the JKD type stuff. So, punch. No, not back to there. 1, 2. So 1, 2, coming through, pick up. Now when I do this and I pick him up, what I want is up, my head stays fixed against him, I twist my hips away, bring my arms across, and I turn my head into him. This will obviously turn his body from being vertical to horizontal, and that's when I come through, pick him up, twist, and then drive him into the floor basically. So we go 1, 2, coming through, pick up. From here, I'll turn and drive in. So when you're training with your partner, make sure as you bring him down, you place the hand on the floor to support yourself. What you're really doing though is obviously coming up, driving forward, and you just pile him into the floor. He won't necessarily have time to get that hand there, and you won't pick him up, stop, turn, and go. It all happens in one motion. So tiny bit quicker, 1, 2, up here, bang, up, forward, and down. So there's my side mount. I can obviously then switch here, stay in position, maintain control, or I would obviously switch and look to get into the full mount. So again, the choice is yours. It just depends where you like to fight. Thank you. So the key, as I say, is getting in nice and close. Pick him up straight, continue to drive forward, and you're twisting as you're going forward. Then basically you'll just drive him into the floor, maintain control, maintain position, and look to finish it from there. Thanks for watching, guys. See you next lesson.
