How to Takedown your Opponent (using Shoulder Triangle) - Grappling & Ground Fight

A Master Wong instructor shows how to take down an opponent from a shoulder-triangle position using a 1-2 punch combo to close distance, then transitions to side-mount, full-mount, or arm-bar depending on how the opponent reacts.

What's up guys, welcome back to another video in the Master Wong Grappling and Ground Fight System. In today's lesson, we're going to be talking about another variation of the takedown. But this time we're going to be going in off the shoulder triangle. So if you happen to get close enough, you get him in the shoulder triangle and then you're going to sweep him to the floor. And as long as you stick with him, stay close, feel your way through the movement, you should be able to take side mount, you can take full mount, you can go straight into an armbar, you can do as you please as long as you have good control of your opponent. So, fuck it, before you ask, I'll show you what I mean. So with this one, we're going to be going off a 1-2. But like with the single punch and going into the single leg takedown, I have to move as he moves. So with this 1-2, what I'm looking to do initially is I cover. Now as I cover, my head moves away. Now a lot of people prefer to completely move because I can stay sort of squarer in my base. That's not how we do it. What I want is here. So I actually lean, my weight shifts onto this leg, which is kind of like your Wing Chun sort of tradition, uh, traditional movement. So he hits, I'm here. Now Now, because from here it sets me up directly for kicks, I can obviously go in and strike myself. I can do as I please, it doesn't matter. I don't have to go into the next part. And the advantage I have if I'm here, by the time he throws this other punch, it's now going to come past my hand. So I obviously see him move, ah, and I'm here, so I'm set up for something else. But what I'm saying is I go here, one, so my head's now outside. So even if he throws just my head movement should be enough to get me out of the way. So I go 1, 2, and I'm here. So that's my movement, then I will close him up. But of course, as his second punch is coming, I'm already moving in, like with the first one. So again, even without the hands, if he throws 1, 2, I'm 1, 2. So regardless of whether my hands are involved, the punches should miss, okay? So I'm here, 1, 2, and I'll come straight in. This hand comes up and across and I'm here. It goes straight across the neck, I grab that hand and I keep him close. So, if I go in off this side, so we go punch, 1, 2, and I'm here. Now, the first thing that I want as I'm moving in, 1, my shoulder comes into here. 2, my thigh must pin against his thigh. Once I grab, because this will stop him kneeing. If I'm wide and he can just face me— no, no, knee straight up— then he obviously is able to knee me straight in the groin. So I go forward here, knee, you can't do anything. You feel that movement, you stick with him with your thigh, and that will prevent him being able to whack you in the groin. So again, my hand is here, I'm looking for this part of my forearm to be pinned against the neck, my head jams in nice and tight, I'm I grab this upper hand that's around his neck and pin. Then from here, we step out, I twist, I keep him tight. As he hits the floor, I shift. So now my head, you'll notice my head is taking this arm away. I'm here, that pins him into place, and of course I'm here. My knee, you'll notice I'm now set up for the armbar should I choose to take it. Or from here, of course, I can go straight into side mount, or from here I can obviously go straight into full mount. And obviously I have the arm, etc., still under control when I do that. So the options are yours once you're down there. You don't have to think, 'Shit, what do I do?' You've got a million and one options, as always. It's just, what do you want to do to your opponent in order to control it or to stop the fight? So, 1, 2, here, close them up nice and tight, this other hand's on, squeeze. Make it a little bit uncomfortable for him. So, opposite side, here, nice and tight. Again, I jam him up, keep him here, move away. Here, hit. Next one, hit, step. And in. There's your armbar. Pretty simple. Keep this leg fixed against the head, under the chin here, and I just drive my hips up and he will of course have to tap out. Thank you. So pretty simple stuff. As long as you stay close, control him well. Once he goes down, keep that head, use the head, switch the leg, and then just drop back and you'll have the arm every single time. Thanks for watching, guys. See you next lesson.
