So... I've never actually had the body I want!

In this 15‑minute YouTube monologue, the presenter (Ty) walks viewers through his annual "fact‑map" planning process, which breaks personal development into four domains – Body, Being, Balance, and Business – and maps quarterly targets. He reflects on his own fitness journey from 2008 to 2023, revealing that despite years of training and a consistently decent physique, he never achieved the body he truly wanted because he settled for "good enough". The COVID‑era shift in his business priorities caused his conditioning to slip, leading to a loss of confidence and a "dad‑bod" appearance. To reignite progress, Ty and his coach instituted a $10,000 accountability bet that forced him to regain consistency, resulting in a three‑month turnaround where he reclaimed his six‑pack. He now outlines ambitious 2024‑25 goals: sub‑10% body‑fat, a 3× body‑weight deadlift, 2× body‑weight squat, 1.8× body‑weight bench press, and ~10 lb of lean‑mass gain, while maintaining parallel growth in the other three domains. He invites viewers to join his accountability journey, promising regular updates on nutrition, training, mobility, and mindset, and offers coaching to anyone interested.

So one of the things that I've been doing for the past couple of years now, about 3 years in fact, since 2020, is a process that we do at the end of every year called a fact map. Now essentially what we do is we get real fucking clear about exactly where we are now. Then we kind of paint out this picture of exactly what it is we want to achieve within this 12-month or within the coming 12-month period. And then we break it down into chunks and write what we're going to achieve by the end of Q1 or the next quarter, and then the second quarter, third and fourth and so on. So we build out this path and this map to help us get to our goals. Now, I was doing this a couple of weeks ago in December with, with my coach, and this is also a process I'm actually going to open up for my own clients and those who are working with me in the next couple of weeks so that they can get clear on where it is they want to go and so on, um, as well to help them reach their goals. And of course, if this is something that sounds interesting to you hit me up in the DMs and I can obviously get you some details on that and you might like to join us. But anyway, my point is I'm doing this thing a couple of weeks back and we break everything down into 4, 4 different categories. So we, we go for body, being, balance, and business. Body is essentially your health, your aesthetics, and so on. So it's everything to do with your body and how you want it to look, feel, and perform, um, and based on where you're at now, where you want to go, and so on. Then we do the same in being, which is like your confidence, certainty in self, maybe your spirituality, connection to God or source or whatever you want to call it, and your ability to act authentically as your true self. Then we have balance, which is our relationships. So this could be with your partner, your kids, your spouse, your friends, your colleagues, basically any relationship, anywhere you know you've got problems or things that need working on. We map all that out. And then of course, the final one is business, which essentially is your ability to earn money or to make money, to keep money, and to grow money. So they're the 4 categories that we break down. Now, one of the things that kind of hit me as I was going through this process is I've been in the health game for a long time, been teaching it, coaching it, and so on, and being very active myself my whole life, pretty much being a martial artist and so on. But I kind of had this revelation, which seemed obvious once I kind of— once it clicked in. But I'd never really thought about it too much. And it's the fact that I've never actually had the body I want. And part of the reason for that is because I've always— I don't really want to use the word hidden behind, but in some respects hidden behind the fact that I've always had a pretty good body. I've always been in fairly good shape, always had a six-pack and so on. So because of that, I've never— even though I've sort of wanted more, I've never felt the need to go and chase it down and actually achieve it. So therefore, I've never fully experience the body I want or the physique that I want and so on. And it sort of hit me quite hard at the time because I was like, fuck, that's actually a long time to have spent doing this stuff and working on yourself but not actually to the point that you want to achieve it. And then I'm like, ah, guess who else does this, Ty? A lot of your fucking clients. So it turns out you're no different from them in, in many respects. And it's true. And what I'm going to do with you guys, I'm going to kind of, kind of show you some photographs in a moment of my body, sort of over the past 15 years or so, and what happened to me in the past few years where I allowed my business and everything else to kind of get in the way after COVID. And it wasn't COVID's fault, it was my lack of response to COVID with my business and so on. And I just let everything else get in the way of me actually continuing to prioritize myself, and my body slipped. And as a result, started to feel a bit kind of self-confident— sorry, lack of self-confidence and lower self-esteem and so on. And to the point I wouldn't even wear certain clothes that I would have worn before because I was like, I don't look good or don't feel good in this. Which was a weird experience because it's not something I'd ever had before, but obviously I'd heard about it through clients and so on. So experiencing it for myself was quite an interesting thing, but also made me realize actually, you need to sort yourself out and you actually need to achieve this thing that you keep saying you want, but you never really do enough to get to. So if I just wrap this up here, give me one moment, I'm gonna open up my screen. So this is me back in 2008. So as you can see, I'm not in too bad a shape. I've never been a big guy, but then I've always kind of used the excuse, I'm a martial artist, I wanna stay quick and sharp and so on. So, I don't want to be too big and bulky. And it's true, I don't want to be big and bulky, but I do actually want to be bigger than I was here. And I've been bigger, at this point I'm around 65 kilos. Fast forward into 2014 and still in pretty good shape, this was on my last fight. I weighed in at about 65.5 kilograms or whatever for this fight. And as you can see, quite lean and athletic looking and so on, and all good, again. Stuck, hid behind that idea, even though really I wanted to be bigger. Um, and as I say, not big like a huge bodybuilder, but bigger than I actually am. Fast forward to 2017, I'd actually gained a fair bit of weight. I don't actually have any pictures of my torso and stuff, or my bare torso, but at this point I'm around 72 kilograms. And the reason I know that is because late 2015 is when I pulled a 200-kilo deadlift at a body weight of 71. And I know my body weight stayed about the same for a couple of years. So, um, the reason I ended up pulling a 200-kilo deadlift is because I was actually chasing a, uh, a 3 times body weight deadlift. But at 71 kilos, pulling 200 is actually only 2.8. So again, a bit like my physique, it's like I've always had an okay physique but never pushed it to the point where I really want to go. Same with my deadlifts, like, oh, you wanted a 3 times body weight but you only went to 2.8, and kind of settled on that's enough. Most people never achieve this much. That will do. So the reason why I obviously bring all this up is because next year I'm gonna fucking smash all of these goals, um, and I'm gonna actually share the process with you guys over the next year as, as we do it. So anyway, this is 2017. Then 2018, um, I'm now up to about 73, 74 kilos here. 2019, I leaned down a bit, got to, to this point. This is back to about 72. Um, so as you can see, not in bad shape, um, and generally speaking, fairly easy for me to maintain. 2020 though, a year after this, I kind of let things start to slip. So this is late in 2020, after sort of the, the initial panic of all the lockdowns and shit. And as I say, I wasn't affected psychologically by lockdown, but the way I shifted my mindset in my business, etc., and I just let everything become more important than taking care of myself. Um, where I was like, fuck, I've just lost 60% of my business, I need to this, that, and the other. And, and so I went all in on that and started to, to not prioritize myself so much. So I started to lose definition, etc. So then for the, the next sort of couple of years, fucked around off and on and was sort of trained but not stay consistent and so on. And as a result, and of letting my diet go a bit, I ended up here being at about 78. 3, I think it was, or 78.4 kilos. So as you can see, I'm not huge, I'm not obese or anything, but I ended up getting a bit of a gut, or, and what I would kind of call a bit more of a dad bod. Um, not ideal for me, having been a totally different way my whole life. This kind of was like, oh, fuck. Um, when I sort of see myself in the mirror, then it's like, this isn't, this isn't me. It doesn't feel like me. I now don't feel confident. I won't wear certain clothes and, and all the rest of it. Even silly things like fucking short sleeve top— wouldn't wear a short sleeve top because I no longer had definition in triceps and shit. It's dumb when I think about it, but at the same time it's not dumb because it highlights to me how much our body and our, our own perception of our body actually affects our confidence, our self-esteem, our ability to show up just in general daily life, but especially in things like business or in our relationship and so on. So this was May 20— May this, this year, and I'd gotten to this point and I was talking with my coach And he was like, well, what, what's the problem? What's in the way? What's in the way? And I'm like, it's just my business. I keep this, I keep that. So then he came up with an ingenious trick to, to get me to, to bite. Having been a bit of an athlete and stuff my whole life and competing and whatnot, he knows I like to compete. So he's like, well, give me a figure. And I'm like, what? He's like, give me a figure and let's keep going until you feel uncomfortable. So basically what the, the, the end result was, we settled on if I don't turn this around in the next 3 months, I would have to pay him $10,000. So to me, that was like, cool, this is a, this is a good task. This means I now need to get my ass into gear. Now, the catch was I kind of took it for granted and thought 3 months is ages. So for about a month, I fucked around and didn't really do much at all. Uh, then I got a cold in the middle, but by August 2023, I had gotten rid of the gut. So as you can see here, I had the, the, the gut and so on, and then By August 2023, I'd managed to kind of get my six-pack back again. Not back to where I was, and I'm still not right now. I'll show you guys in a moment. But I'd gotten to this point, and without not a great deal of effort, just basically being consistent again. And if there's one thing you guys can take from all of this, is just be consistent. Like, doesn't matter if the diet's perfect, or if the training's perfect, or the recovery's— it doesn't matter. Just be fucking consistent and you'll get results, I promise you. And of course, if you want to be more precise with the actions and stuff and you want me to help you, let me know. But otherwise, just pick some things that you know are good for you and stick to them. You'll get results. So this is where I got to in August. And then again, I kind of showed my, my coach. He's like, yeah, cool, that's good, I'll let you off, you don't owe me the 10 grand. So that was all good. I didn't, I didn't lose 10K for, for not getting back in shape. But then the catch is, all I kind of did from this point is then coast again. It's, oh, I kind of got back here, I'll just coast on this and leave it at that. So these are the differences, the contrasts, as you can see. So went from that to that in basically 3 months, and 3 months where only really 2 months of it were much of an effort with the consistent training and so on. Now I bring this up because it doesn't have to be hard. It's not the actual things that we have to do. I've said to you guys before, they are not hard. The hard thing is being consistent with them with the chaos of the rest of our daily life and all the different things that we're trying to juggle. Now, my goal— so I'm currently now 73 kilograms, 74 kilograms, sorry, um, 74 kilos. But my goal is to get to the end of next year at a body fat percentage, a gain of around about 8, 8 to 10% max, but somewhere sub-10 like I used to always be quite easily. So, and I could do this in the next couple of months. So that will be my first my first goal, but by the end of next year I'll have a, a body fat percentage that is sub-10%. I'll have a deadlift that's 3 times my body weight. I'll have a squat that's double my body weight and a bench, as in a bench press, that is 1.8 times my body weight. And I plan to attempt to try and put on around 10 pounds of lean mass at the same time. Now those are fairly big changes, especially with the stuff I've got also planned in my being, my balance, and my business. But that's the way we like to play this game. It's like there's no point picking one domain, sacrificing the rest, and then just growing one. We grow them all together. It's the only way to essentially have it all because if you constantly start working on one and burn one down, so it's build one, burn one, build one, burn one, you're never gonna be content or happy because you always feel like you've got to sacrifice or give something up. In order to have the new thing. So if I just show you here, if I remove this now, so that's where I was in August, and I'll show you so you guys have got a live picture of where I'm at right now. So as you can see, I'm not super lean or anything right now, and what I don't like for me is this pinch. Now I know for some people who are overweight, they're going to be like, well, fuck off, Ty, mate, that's nothing bit, nothing major. But for me, this is a lot. Normally my abdominal pinch is actually more like this. So that's where I plan— sorry, lost my ball now— uh, that's where I plan to get back to in around the next 3 months or so, 3 to 4 months. So for my Q1, I'll be working on my mobility and basically getting myself lean again. I'll maintain my strength where it is. If I happen to gain some, great, but that won't be my main focus. My main focus will be getting the aesthetics of my body back and then working on my mobility because I'm going to need the additional mobility to reduce any, reduce any risk of injury and things with the heavy lifts that I'm going to be attempting, um, pretty much every single week as I move, move into this, this next year, um, and obviously chase down those 3x bodyweight deadlift, the 2x bodyweight squat, and so on. So to be honest, the squat will probably be more than that, but that's the cap I'm set at at the moment. So I just thought I'd drop in, share, share kind of where I'm at with you guys, um, both to kind of show you, well, we're all on this fucking journey. It's all a bit of a roller coaster. It's ups and downs for everybody, you know. I'm the guy, I teach this stuff and help people achieve it, but that doesn't mean that I don't face my own struggles on a, on a sort of daily, weekly, monthly, yearly basis too. Um, but at the end of the day, it's not so much about being perfect— cliché again— it's about progress and so on. But it is, it's, it's like, well, okay, so you've had some problems, you've had some mistakes, but what are you going to do about it in order to move forward and actually rectify them and fix them in some way to get back to where you actually want to be? So I look forward to sharing this journey with you. What I will do is I'll show you some of the food I'm eating as I go. I'll show you the, the types of training that I'm doing and so on, so that you guys can get a bit of a deeper insight into how I work and how I operate and how I achieve these things and, generally speaking, maintain them, no problem. And so I will show you guys all of that. What was this? Sorry, I just noticed I've got a comment here. That was never 10 years you jumped in the cage. Oh, it was, yeah, back in 2014. Fucking long time ago. It doesn't seem like that, but that was the last time I had a fight. I don't even know who that is that commented that because it just says Facebook user. But yeah, 10 years already. So I'll leave it there, people. You guys have all seen me exposed now. So that's also a little bit of added accountability for myself to make sure I do obviously get my head in the game and achieve these results. And I'll check in roughly monthly, show you where I'm at with my particular results and so on. I also did some mobility testing. I'll show you guys that if you're interested in the next couple of days, show you where I'm at, where I plan to get to and so on. So you can see it's not just about the aesthetics, it's also about how my body performs and feels and so on. And then hopefully, at some point. Many of you guys, I know you've probably got, um, goals like this yourself where you're looking to burn fat or build muscle or get out of pain and so on. And if that's the case, then of course feel free to hit me up and I can give you some help, some tips and advice on how you can do that. So thanks for watching, people. I appreciate your time. I know this one's a bit longer than I've been recently, but as always, I appreciate it. If you've got any questions, drop them in the comments below, and if not, I look forward to chatting with you guys tomorrow. Take it easy, people.
