Sometimes, we have to do some things we don't want to do...

You can't transform your body or life without doing hard things you'd rather avoid. The speaker reframes this as a trade, not a sacrifice: you're swapping current habits for outcomes you actually want. Loss aversion and instant gratification make the swap feel painful, but the pain is the point.

In order to get what we want, we got to do some shit that we just don't want to do. Now, this is never, never more true than when it comes to the game of health and the game of body transformation. Now, of course, it's also true in the game of business and life in general, but it certainly shows up at a prolific level when we're talking about trying to transform our bodies, you know, in the forms of fat loss or building muscle and things like that, or when trying to achieve new levels of health, perhaps reverse chronic disease and illness and these types of things. Quite often, unfortunately, we've got to do some things that we just don't want to do in order to get the result that we want. So for example, when it comes to our nutrition, quite often we've got to stop eating some of the foods that or at least reduce the amount of some of the foods that we've, we've been eating for a while that are obviously not taking us towards our goals. And we might have to start exercising, we might have to stop or reduce the amount that we're kind of lazing around or being lazy in the evenings. And that's not to say that— say, sorry, not to say that we haven't earned it You know, maybe you've had a hard-ass day at work and you feel as though you deserve to chill out in the evening and you deserve to treat yourself with ice cream or with some cake or some sweets or chocolate or whatever the thing might be. And who am I to, to, to tell you otherwise and to say that you don't deserve it? The catch-22, whether you do deserve it or not, is that sometimes if we want a new result, we have to behave in a different way. So we have to get real clear with ourselves about, well, what is it I'm actually willing to give up or willing to change about myself and my current habits and behaviors in order to get the thing that I want? So some people would consider it, well, you have to sacrifice. Something needs to be sacrificed. Everything that you want, you know, any type of greatness or anything that's better than what you currently have, you're going to have to sacrifice something else to get it. I don't kind of look at things in that way. I look at it more as a trade. It's like, well, what am I willing to trade about what I'm currently doing or what I currently have in order to have this new thing that I desire to have in my life? Rather than, rather than kind of coming at it from this negative, oh, in order for me to lose weight, I have to sacrifice ice cream. In order for me to, to build muscle, I have to sacrifice spending time relaxing with my girlfriend in the evening, watching TV and get my ass to bed instead. So I don't look at it from the perspective of I need to sacrifice. As I say, instead I look at it from the perspective of what is it I'm willing to trade in my lifestyle in order to get this new outcome that I'm after. Now, sometimes, as I say, we just don't want to do these things. There's, there's a part of us that kind of knows we have to, but we're just not, we're just not in a place where we feel ready to give up that thing. And it's because we're loss averse. We, we as humans, we find it very difficult to not focus on the aspect that we're going to lose and instead focus on the, the thing that we're going to gain. And it's because there's this part of us that wonders, well, even when I've gained this thing or achieved this thing, will it actually provide me with the fulfillment that I think that it is going to? So Will it actually— will, will that positive be as significant as the positive that I will get now? This instant gratification that I'll get now eating this thing or, or drinking this thing or whatever it might be that I know I need to stop. So my question for you today is, what is it that you know you have to stop, know you have to, or know you have to do? What's the, what's the thing you know you have to do that you don't really want to, but you know you're going to have to in order to get the results that you want in your health, your body, and ultimately in your life. So what's the one thing? Let me know in the comments, and I look forward to seeing you guys tomorrow.
