The Beauty of Ugly, Imperfect Action!

In this motivational monologue, the speaker argues that the pursuit of perfect action prevents most people from taking any action at all. He explains that perfection is a subjective, often unrealistic ideal that leads to all‑or‑nothing attempts, which are unsustainable and ultimately ineffective. By contrast, consistently taking small, imperfect actions—whether in exercise, nutrition, or mindset—produces real progress over time. The speaker invites viewers to reflect on how perfectionism may be holding them back and challenges them to commit to a specific, imperfect habit for the coming week, month, quarter, or year. He offers personal coaching via comments or direct messages to help individuals identify and overcome their perfection‑driven blocks, promising greater confidence and forward momentum throughout 2024.

the side of action. Now, the problem we have though is most of us won't take the action unless we feel that we can do it perfectly. It's like we have this issue whereby if I can't take the exact action in the exact way that the expert said was the best way, then it's not worth me doing because that way I won't get the best results possible. So we end up holding ourselves hostage to this idea that unless the action that I take is going to be perfect, there isn't going to be much point because I won't therefore get the results that I want, or I won't get them at the level I desire. Now, of course, ultimately this isn't true, and if we were to get real with ourselves, we'd understand that actually ugly, imperfect action taken on a consistent basis is better than the so-called perfect action that we take intermittently, inconsistently, and infrequently. Now, of course, our, our ultimate intentional goal isn't to take infrequent action. You know, we, we don't want to kind of keep stopping and starting and stopping and starting and so on because it wastes energy, it wastes time, it wastes money. But at the same time, we understand there is some kind of investment required, and obviously it comes in the form of things like money, time, effort, energy, and so on. but we feel like, well, if it's not going to be perfect, then I won't get the perfect result. But then because the so-called perfect action that we do take isn't sustainable, therefore we don't get the result that we want anyway. So if we were actually willing to take a step back and sort of say to ourselves, well, what about if I actually gave myself the opportunity to be imperfect? What if I accepted the fact that perfection is just an idea and not necessarily a reality? And that perfection is actually different for every single one of us because of our own perceptions, our own beliefs, our own experiences, and our own goals and desires. So therefore, if perfection is just a figment of my perception and my imagination, then it shouldn't really matter if I do take imperfect action, as long as I take it consistently enough to get the result that I want. And what many of us would actually find is if we were to take some of those actions, And it's very rare that we do one exercise session or go for one sports massage treatment or joint manipulation, and suddenly it's gone. It might slightly alleviate it or improve the status of it, but it doesn't necessarily eradicate it unless we build up those daily singles. Okay, well, that means I need to do this particular stretch and this particular strengthening exercise every single day or every other day for an extended period, maybe alongside some eating well, maybe alongside some manipulation or therapy of some sort. To lead me to the goal. Because unfortunately, when we just go all in for a moment and then all in for a moment, we don't actually get there. We get this feeling for a temporary period like we're actually making progress because we've gone in so hard and done everything so perfectly, but we can never sustain it because that all-or-nothing approach always tends to equal nothing because we're trying to change too much too soon. We're trying to act perfectly within an imperfect world and with an imperfect being. So it makes it very difficult to have this outcome of perfection when we truly understand, if we were to sit down and think about it, well, actually perfection doesn't exist. But I've been led to believe that unless it's perfect, it won't be acceptable, neither by me nor by those that I see in a position of authority to me, which of course is unfortunately somebody else's story that we've adopted for ourselves. Then we try to live by this other person's story. But then, of course, we realize this is actually doing nothing but hold me back. This idea of needing to be perfect means that I will constantly remain imperfect because I will never see myself as being perfect. So therefore, I'm always at this lack compared to where I want to be or where I think I should be perfect. I'm actually imperfect. And of course, because we realize that, we will always see ourselves in this position of lack. So my question for you guys is, is perfection holding you back? And if it is, what ugly, imperfect action can you begin taking from today, or even tomorrow at the latest, that will actually start moving you toward your goals? Because let's be honest, this attempt at perfect isn't working, doesn't work, and will not work. So what could you commit to for the next week, month, quarter, year that will actually lead you toward your goals? Could it be a simple change in your food? Maybe it's a simple change in the way you move daily. Maybe it's a simple shift in your mindset. Doesn't matter what it is. What imperfect action will you commit to taking from today or tomorrow the latest that will actually start moving you toward your goal? I'll leave that with you tonight, guys.
