Triangled Armbar - Opponents in Side Mount - Grappling & Ground Fight

From bottom side mount, trap your opponent's arm with a triangle-to-armbar combo. Use tight elbows to control their upper body, swing your leg low to knock their elbow away, then hook over their face to lock the triangle and extend into the armbar.

What's up guys, welcome back to another lesson in the Master World Grappling and Ground Fight System. In today's lesson we're going to talk through how to get the armbar when your opponent has side mount. So you're on the bottom, he's got side mount, and you're both going to sort of be fighting around, you're struggling, and then you're going to look to catch him out and take a triangle and get an armbar. Now, it's not going to work every single time because it will depend on the position of his elbows and how well he manages to control your hip. But as long as you're able to distract him enough and control where his body goes by use of his head— so I move his head in order to control his body— then you can quickly switch, hook the leg over the face, and extend your hips through and take the armbar. So, if Naz takes side mount, I should show you guys what I'm talking about. So from here, if you're not quite sure how to control in the side mount, you'll probably want to look at one of my earlier videos, which talks through obviously how to get the armbar from being in side guard. And there I talk you through the positioning, only because I'm sure here you probably can't see exactly how Naz is positioned. So if he's down, he's keeping heavy, he's trying to control me. So from here, first thing I want to do is what we call T-Rex arms. So from here, my elbows, I want to get them in nice and tight. So he's trying to stay heavy in control. Now from here, I get this and I will cross over either leg just to hold his body in place. My arms come inside because from here, once I'm in, I can actually just lift up from here and manipulate where his body goes. Of course, he would try to adjust, etc., but from here I can do this, I can create pressure, move him, and obviously I can drive my elbows into his rib cage, which is pretty uncomfortable. So from here, I'm looking to control the hip. So he thinks I'm working on the hip. And what I actually want is this: my hand comes out here. You've got to be careful of this arm because obviously if I just leave this, he'll be looking to elbow me, etc., in the face. So from this control, I'm here, so I'm defending this arm slightly, and I go here. So now my head is against this and I can control here. Once I push up using his throat or his jaw— either one works, the throat is a bit more uncomfortable— But I push away, this leg comes around. Now, this arm you will have to move slightly with this leg. So I go like this, which is what snaps this hand out of the way. If I leave his elbow back here, I can't lift my leg up, you see? It won't move. So what I do is go 1, which knocks that. This leg comes around, I hook it over, and I take a triangle over his head. Now with this arm, I want to keep it where it is. And I start to extend my hips through here. That takes the arm. If I move this to here, when I extend, nothing happens because his arm's against me. I can't actually push my hips through it. So I'm here, then I extend, which tips the head back and makes it very uncomfortable. Head back inside now. So we might have ended up here. I look to keep him in place here, get my elbows in. So this is T-Rex arms, that's what you want. Of course I can't strike him from here, but I'm not looking to. I'm looking to just control him. I move, switch, get to here, push up, and switch. So this leg comes out and around, then I go across, find the triangle, take him away, and this one, push up and through. Like so. Just once more, slowly. So, I'm in, control, keep heavy. So, here, control. Get the elbows in. Now, control this, come inside. Push this, swing. Notice how that moves the elbow. Over the head, find the triangle. This arm down, push my hips up and away. And you'll get the tap. Thank you. Push! So as you can see, another one that's quite simple but also very effective. Make sure your leg stays pretty close to the floor. As you swing through to knock his elbow. If it's too high, near the shoulder, you're not going to be able to do it. He'll just hold you in place. The leg will keep getting caught on his— on the back of his arm, and you'll be thinking, this isn't working, this isn't working, why can't I get it? But it's simply because the leg was too low and— sorry, too high, and you haven't hit his arm with enough force. He'll be placed here, you've got to hit his leg there so that knocks him out of the way. Then obviously the leg quickly swings over the head. Hook up your triangle and drive your hips up and through. Keep practicing, guys, and I'll see you next lesson.
