What Do You GAIN From Allowing Yourself LOSE?

Why do we know what to do but don't do it? The speaker argues we get an immediate payoff from staying stuck, and fantasizing about change feels better than actually changing. Ask yourself: what do I gain by allowing myself to lose?

Hey guys, what's up? So question for you today: have you ever noticed how you kind of get stuck in this place sometimes where it's a case of you know what it is that you want to achieve, you know what it is that you need to do in order to achieve it, but for some reason you still don't do the things that you know you're supposed to be doing in order to achieve that thing? Now it can be a bit of a tricky spot to be in, and then sometimes it's a case of, okay, well maybe I don't know what it is I need to do but I know I need to learn perhaps about this particular thing. So let's take weight loss, for example. You might know that, okay, well, I need to learn a bit more about diet. I perhaps need to learn how to do some kind of different exercise or exercise program that's going to help me get to my goal. So you know the things that you need to learn, but again, you keep putting it off. Even though you, you have this idea or this desire to go and learn this thing, you still keep putting it off and putting it off. Now, we sometimes get stuck kind of thinking, why the fuck do I keep putting this stuff off even though I know I want this outcome? I want to lose weight, or I want I want to get in shape, or I want to improve my health or reverse this chronic disease or illness, but yet we just perpetually let it keep carrying on. Now sometimes the only way we actually get the answers that we want is to ask the right questions. So my question for you guys today is, what is it that you actually gain from allowing yourself to continually lose? Now when I say lose, I mean obviously in relation to this outcome that you're trying to achieve. It's a case of you want to get this particular thing, whether it's the weight loss or improving your health or earning more money and all these different things that we aspire to have. But the catch-22 is quite often, it's almost like we're more committed to the fantasy of it than living the facts of it. It's like, if I keep this idea in my head, it can keep inspiring me and I can have these moments of excitement when I think about it 'cause it feels great to, oh yeah, well, what if I did lose weight? Or what if I did have lots of money and all these types of things? But we're more committed to the idea than we are actually experiencing it as a reality. So often it's because there is something in the moment that we are actually already gaining or that we already have that we want to experience more than this potential outcome in the future. So basically what I'm saying is we're more committed to something in the moment than we are the potential outcome or the positive that we want to achieve in the future. We don't want to delay that gratification, put off whatever it is that we're experiencing and enjoying right now to have this thing later. So what's that thing for you? What is it that you're actually gaining as a result of allowing yourself to continually lose? If we can answer simple little questions— and I say simple, it's not really, it's quite a big thing for some of us, but it's simple in its idea. So what do I actually gain as a result of not letting myself have this thing? So if we can answer more of those types of questions, it gives us more of an insight into who we are and how we operate. and then it becomes much easier or more simple to navigate ourselves through life because we go, oh, well, I want to do this thing, or I'm going to do this particular thing. I know how I tend to react or act in relation to those types of things. So we can counter ourselves before we make those mistakes or end up finding ourselves in these patterns where we refuse to do the things that we know we're supposed to do. That's all I'm going to leave you with today, guys. Of course, if you're brave enough, if you have the courage, feel free to post your answers to this question below. I'd love to hear them. And if you want any feedback on those answers, I'm more than happy to provide it. So the question is, what do you actually gain from continually allowing yourself to lose?
