"Why is my belly taking so long to go?"

Belly fat sticks around longest because your body loses fat where it gained it first, and stress hormones like cortisol make it worse. Patience and consistency beat pushing harder. Women typically lose hip and thigh fat last for the same reason.

Hey guys, what's up? And welcome to today's Q&A. So today's question comes in from one of my online clients. Uh, we've been working together about 8 weeks now, and his question was, why is it taking so long for me to lose my belly? Or why is my belly fat taking so long to, to go? Now, it's always an interesting question to me, this one, because obviously when we're putting in the hard work and we, we feel like we're doing all the things necessary— the food, the exercise, the sleep and recovery, and so on— we feel like we should be getting immediate results. But what we have to remember when it comes to fat loss or weight loss or health in general is that often there is a delayed response from the body. We've got to put in the work first, and then of course over time the body starts to yield the result that we're after. Now, in relation to this particular question, there's a couple of things to consider. One is, is the stress that's currently going on in your lifestyle too high? Because that will often make fat loss around the, the waistline and the belly much more challenging because it keeps our stress hormones, cortisol, etc., much higher, which tends to lead to accumulation of body fat around the, the belly. But the other thing that we have to consider— so my response to his question was, where did you gain it first? And he's like, oh well, come to think of it, the first place I gained it was my belly. And what I've come to realize over the years working with people is that in most cases, for the majority of people, the place they will lose their belly fat from— sorry, the place they gain their fat first is often the place they lose it last. So due to their particular hormonal profile and individual biochemistry, the places that they tend to gain fat the easiest tend to be the hardest places for them to lose the fat from. So often we will get into it, start making progress, oh, I'm losing weight and things are going down, I notice my chest is getting leaner and so on, my arms are starting to get definition and so on, but the belly doesn't seem to be going at the same rate. What's going on? And quite often it's because our body is set up in that particular way. We often see this with women who gain it on the thighs and hips first. Often they will find that that's the last place that they lose it from also, because wherever your body finds it easiest to gain the body fat, it will often find it most challenging to get rid of it. Now, we often don't necessarily have to work any harder. We just have to remain consistent and patient, essentially, with ourselves and the result, because it will come as a result. If you're doing the right exercise, if you're eating correctly, and so on, you will get the result that you want. You might have to tweak a few things here and there, but you will get the result that you want. But just those areas you find it easier to gain, you're going to have to be a bit more patient with because they will take you a bit longer on average. To lose it in those areas and then reveal the body that you're trying to, to create for yourself, whether that's abs or just a lean stomach or whatever it might be. It can often just take a bit longer. So hopefully that helps, guys. If you've sort of been trying yourself and, and struggling a bit and you're thinking, why the fuck doesn't this seem to be working? It probably is. It's just going to take longer in certain areas of the body just due to your, your body's natural hormonal profile and individual biochemistry. If you want me to dig into this deeper and even give you some specific tactics that you can use to, to try and speed up these processes, particularly around belly fat and so on, let me know in the comments below. And of course, if not, I will look forward to seeing you all in my next video. Thanks for watching, whether you're on a replay or here with us live, and I look forward to chatting with you guys later. Take it easy.
