He couldn’t leave the airport, so he lived there for 18 years!

The video narrates the true story of Mehran Karimi Nasseri, an Iranian refugee who arrived at Paris's Charles de Gaulle Airport in 1988 without valid travel documents. Because he could not prove his identity or nationality, French authorities would not let him enter the country, nor could he be sent back to his home. Consequently, he remained in Terminal 1 for 18 years, sleeping on benches, washing in public restrooms, and reading newspapers. Airport staff grew accustomed to his presence, occasionally providing food and checking on him. Over time, Nasseri refused offers of paperwork that might have resolved his status, possibly due to attachment to his makeshift life or confusion over the process. His extraordinary situation inspired the 2004 film "The Terminal." In 2006, after a health crisis, he was hospitalized and eventually left the airport, ending his prolonged limbo between nations. The narrative highlights how a single missing document can trap a person in a legal and physical no‑man’s land, even in a world defined by global travel.
