Sweden is moving an entire town 3Km away!

In this YouTube segment Dan Novaes explains how the northern Swedish town of Kiruna (referred to as Koruna) is being physically relocated about three kilometres to escape ground instability caused by decades of iron‑ore mining. The video outlines the history of the mine’s economic benefits, the gradual emergence of cracks and subsidence as mining deepened, and the engineering decision to move rather than halt extraction. It describes the painstaking process of dismantling historic buildings, homes and a church, transporting them piece‑by‑piece, and constructing a new city centre while the original site is abandoned. The narrative frames the relocation as an unusual but necessary response to progress‑induced problems, highlighting both technical challenges and the community’s adaptation.
