In this explanatory video, Dan Novaes introduces the Human Library concept, where instead of borrowing printed books, visitors ‘check out’ volunteer individuals who act as living ‘books.’ Each volunteer represents a specific life experience—such as growing up in poverty, facing discrimination, or overcoming major challenges—and shares their story through a face‑to‑face conversation. The purpose of the Human Library is to break stereotypes, foster empathy, and spark conversations that would not normally occur. By replacing written narratives with lived experiences, the initiative emphasizes that the most powerful stories are those lived and shared directly, not merely read on a page.
