Dan Novaes explains how to save on Uber/Lyft by "stacking" loyalty programs, credit-card rewards, and promos so each ride earns multiple benefits (ride credits, hotel/airline points, and cash back). He gives concrete examples (card names, cash-back rates, and monthly-spend math), outlines a three-step system (pick primary rideshare + join loyalty program; pay with the right card; link rideshare accounts to hotel/airline programs), and claims personal savings of over $1,000/year. The tone is prescriptive and promotional, aimed at systematic, repeatable hacks for everyday riders.

Let's talk about something millions of us do without thinking ordering Ubers, Lyfts and other rideshares. Whether it's work, nightlife or the airport run, people spend hundreds, even, even thousands of dollars every year on rides. But here's the problem. Most of that money is just leaking away. If you're not stacking loyalty programs, card rewards and promos, you're leaving a huge chunk of savings on the table. Both Uber and Lyft have loyalty programs. Uber has rewards that give you points for every dollars you spend. And Lyft has a tier system that unlocks perks like ride credits and priority pickups. These are completely free to join, yet most riders ignore them. Why? Because they don't realize that the points can turn into real discounts or free rides every single month. Think of it like airline mil your everyday rides. But here's where it gets interesting. Certain credit cards treat ride shares like travel. They pay you 3 to 5% cash back automatically. Cards like Amex Green, the Chase Sapphire, Perb City Premier Stack and the Capital One Spark all give you rewards every time you ordered a ride. Now you could stack that with your Uber and lift points and one transaction, two streams of rewards. If you spend 300 bucks a month on rides, that's $900 a year. With 5% cash back plus the loyalty rewards, you could be pocketing 150 or more just for using the right card. This is money that you're going to spend anyways, so you might as well get rewarded for it if you want to push it even further. Both Uber and Lyft also run constant promos. You can buy $5 off 20% discounts and partnership deals with airlines and hotels. I personally have my Uber linked to my Marriott rewards. So every time I take an Uber ride, I also get points on my Marriott. This means that every ride will also earn you airline or hotel points on top of all of those loyalty points, stacking and those credits earning you rewards. Once you can stack across multiple systems, that $20 ride suddenly becomes cash back and up to 20 or 30% off. The key here is systematizing. Step 1 Pick a primary ride share and enroll their loyalty program. If you typically take their monthly or annual pro plans, that will also save you about 6 extra percent and get you priority service. Step 2 Always pay with the right credit card. And then step three link all of your Uber and Lyft cards to your hotel and airline miles so that you get rewards everywhere you go. So once you build the system, every ride automatically turns into a discount machine. I know people who save over $500 a year on just rideshare alone. I personally save over $1,000 a year amongst all the points that I stack and the rewards that I get just by using Uber. And sometimes I also use Lyft ifttt Uber. Uber is too expensive for their surge pricing. This is in theory. It's predictable, repeatable and it works. So you don't need to stop taking Ubers or Lyfts. You need to stop riding like everyone else. With the right system, the transportation will not only cost you less, it'll save you time, it'll pay you back. And that's how the 1% rides smarter.
