This small island produces more energy than it consumes!

The video narrated by Dan Novaes tells the story of Samsø, a Danish island of about 4,000 residents, which became one of the first places worldwide to run entirely on renewable energy. In the late 1990s Denmark launched a competition to turn a community into a clean‑energy model; Samsø was selected. Although locals were initially skeptical because wind turbines were costly and solar was unfamiliar, the project was built on community ownership: residents invested in wind turbines, farmers installed renewable heating, and households gradually moved away from fossil fuels. By combining wind power, solar panels, and biomass for electricity and heat, the island eventually generated more energy than it consumed. Today Samsø is studied globally as a concrete example that collective action—not a single breakthrough—can achieve sustainable living.
