Most prisoners aren't bad people, just people who made terrible choices or grew up in brutal circumstances. The speaker argues that psychopaths and the truly dangerous are rare exceptions, yet society still treats incarceration as permanent moral judgment.

The truth is, is that most of the people in prison are not bad people. Most of them will get out. Most of them, decent people who have done some horribly stupid things. Are there some psychopaths in there? Absolutely. Are there people that have done really bad things? Sometimes it's not even their own fault. They grew up in an environment that that's the way to do things. But I think that while everybody gets so preachy and ultra-liberal with, I love you, you love me, but in reality, people are continuing to polarize all the time.
