Utkar Shah Mizal argues that success depends less on grinding harder and more on choosing the right people and problems to solve. In the 21st century, repeated reinvention requires community and resilience, not the hustle narrative. Find where you're most needed and become a category of one.

Hi, my name is Utkar Shah Mizal and I'm the author of the Seductive Illusion of Hard Work. In the book I argue that who you choose to work with and which problems you choose to focus on defines your success far more than plain and simple hard work. So is hard work redundant in the 21st century? We will have to reinvent ourselves multiple times and reinvention is impossible and very difficult alone. So if we want to work hard, we have to work hard on building the resilience to recreate ourselves, building and finding the right kind of communities that can support but simply putting in more number of hours or saying things like sleep is for the week or keep hustling on is not a sustainable strategy. So if you want to build a meaningful career in the 21st century, try and figure out which people need you the most, which problems need you the most, and how can you define a category of one and transcend competition? That's what I argue in the book. It's been an absolute adventure writing it and I look forward to your comments. Thank you.
