Is going to be chiropractic. And you're going to ask me, well, is that because you're a chiropractor? Well, I am a chiropractor, and so I do understand it. But chiropractic is when we look at the brain and how the brain works. So your brain sends a message from your brain down your brain to your brainstem, which sits right up there under that back part of your head called the occiput. And it goes down your brainstem and from your brainstem to your spinal cord, and from your spinal cord. It goes— the spinal cord runs down through the bones in your body, and I want you to really realize that, I mean, I believe in God or whatever you believe created the body, that the vertebrae actually protect the spinal cord. That's how important it is, and we know that from, you know, tragedies like Superman, what happens if we injure the spinal cord. But the spinal cord sends messages outside the vertebral foramina, which is the holes. So when the bones sit on top of each other, it makes a hole, and that nerve goes to all the organs in the body, and basically a function the brain says— Hey, I want to move your toe, goes down the brainstem, down the spinal cord, all the way down to the tail of the spinal cord, which is called the cauda equina, and that tells the toe to move. That's how your toe moves. It comes from your brain, right? So every function comes from the brain. So what happens is over life, muscles get tight, life happens, or as I say, shit happens. We have accidents, you know, car accidents, maybe we fall down, and we get a lot of stress on the muscles and even the bones. And our, our body. And what happens when those muscles get tight? They pull on the bones, the bones put pressure on the disc, the disc puts pressure on the nerve, and that's how we get a lot of imbalances. But we only think about it in terms of pain. You know, I'm not gonna go into it, but the first chiropractic adjustment ever, the guy got adjusted and got his hearing back. His name was Harvey Lillard. So that can be another room for another day.
Wow.
I'm gonna probably open a room. I love doing these little rooms. It's so fun. So, gotta get busy in my room. Um, but chiropractic— so when you go get a chiropractic adjustment, there's tons of different types. I'm happy to help you find a chiropractor, happy to help you find one in your area that's good. Um, when you get adjusted, it balances the nervous system. So when you think all executive functioning happens from the nervous system, you know, your ability to concentrate, your ability to self-relax, your ability to self-soothe, your ability to, you know, process emotions such as anger and frustration. When you get adjusted, you're balancing your mind, body, and spirit. So, really love that support. The second one is, is definitely nutrition, eating those clean foods, but with an emphasis on your essential omegas, 3, 6, and 9, and finding a really good omega and healthy fats, okay? So, avocado oil, olive oil, coconut oil, like really healthy fats that are feeding your nervous system because what happens is when we overthink, we overdo, when we get super busy, if you're very intense like myself and expect, you know, express a lot of energy, we have to refill our nervous system because our nervous system functions off of fats so really making sure you're not just eating a clean diet but you're getting enough Fats and omegas so that your brain stays fed, right? So it stays well nourished and well, you know, I guess, full of fats, 'cause the fats are what really help our nervous system to function. And then I'm gonna talk about essential oils, and I realize not everybody on here is familiar with essential oils, and I realize that some of you on here think you know about essential oils, 'cause I'm gonna be straight up honest with you, I thought I knew about essential oils, and—
I didn't.
Well, to be honest, I had no idea what I was talking about, and so I'd be very honest with you. But 3 cool things about essential oils is they are safe, okay? So when I say safe, they're non-addictive, they're natural, they come from plants. A lot of us know herbs, or if I've got any Southern Hemisphere people on here, since I'm also a New Zealander, herbs, right? So, we know herbs and herbs, but the thing is, is essential oils are actually 50 to 70 times more powerful. Than herbs. And the reason is they're what we call volatile, V-O-L-A-T-I-L-E. When they're extracted, they're actually still kind of alive and they vibrate with a frequency. So you could actually take a tuning fork, go over to a bottle of essential oils, ding that tuning fork, and you could get a frequency. And it depends, like lavender, cedarwood, vetiver, which are really great.
Okay.
calming oils, those have a low vibration, right? So, those are gonna calm us down, they're gonna bring us down, like the tree oils, like Siberian fir, arborvitae, those are big heavy oils that pull us down, and then things like melissa, jasmine rose, the little flowers, right? They've got a very high vibration, so we're gonna use those for different reasons, right? Those are gonna pick up our frequency. And basically, because they're extracted why they're so safe is they're just extracted from plants. And in a plant, an essential oil does something. Like, for example, the melaleuca plant in Australia, tea tree oil is extracted from that plant. And what that essential oil does in that plant is protect that plant from fungus, and yeast, and mold when it gets really hot and humid in Australia. We can use that in a mold spray. We can use that if we've got some, you know, fungus on our toe from going to the wrong nail salon, right ladies? We can put a little bit of that on there. So, that's That's how it works with our bodies synergistically and because it's natural and a truth I told you about the human body, a cool thing is it loves to be empowered naturally because when it gets a chemical it has to kind of go, ooh, I don't know what to do with this. I got to figure out what to do with it because it's foreign. When something natural comes in, especially when it's from plants, you always hear plant-based, what happens is the body goes, oh, I know what to do with that. I know exactly what to do with that. So, That's what makes them so safe. And to— so you can get the strength of the difference when I say 50 to 75 times more powerful, one drop of peppermint essential oil is the equivalent of 28 peppermint tea bags. So if you were gonna have peppermint tea because you wanted to, you know, balance your digestion or as a digestive aperitif, you'd have to use 28 tea bags to get the same strength as one drop. So that's how popular or how powerful it is.
Wow.
And it is quite popular. They're effective, and when I say effective, it's because often within seconds people will notice, okay? That doesn't mean you smell one drop and you're cured because what did I tell you about the body? The body self-regulates and needs to be empowered, but that doesn't mean that the body just goes, oh, okay, I'll do what you say. Maybe it's, you know, it takes 4 or 5 times a day that we have to start using an essential oil, and then we can drop down in the amount of times that we use it, okay? So, if you can't focus, don't smell an oil one time and go, essential oils didn't work, because I always say essential oils don't work unless you do, right? So, maybe you've got to use an oil of focus 4 or 5 times throughout the day, so we leave it right by the desk, or like I was telling this mom about her son, she messaged me and she said, oh my gosh, he noticed— so, we always start with kids like on a Saturday when they're home, right? So, they can get, they can understand it. And she said, Martha, right away he noticed something different. I said, okay, but remind him this is something his body needs to learn to work with. So keep it with them and using it, you know, 4 or 5 times throughout the day and beginning to tell the body, this is the support I need, and the body going, cool, right? And the cool thing is the kids will say to me in a few weeks, a lot of times, because kids are so much more honest than adults, right? They'll say, you know, You know what, Dr. Martha? Like, I know now when my body needs it. I only need it at this time and this time, and I know I need it when I'm studying. And that's the cool thing, right, you guys? We can talk to our body because our body is constantly talking with us, right? A fever is not the body going, hey, give me a Tylenol. Or a headache, right? It's not give me a Tylenol. It's the body's way of saying, hey, I'm trying to talk to you, right? Excuse me. Like when you feel, you know, like restless, the body's like, hey, I'm trying to tell you I need something. And it's like, cool. And getting in tune with your body and find out what it needs, that's like the game changer. That is the ultimate game changer in human existence is when you can say, I know exactly what my body needs. And, you know, taking just one second before I tell you the number 3, I'll tell you this. I was raised in a very, very medical house. My dad's a medical malpractice attorney and my mom died when I was 2 and she was 29 years old and I was raised very medical and when I was 22 years old, I had what I call a lightning bug moment, you know, when lightning bugs light up in the sky, like when my butt lit up and I knew that I was going to do different by my human body, when I found out how the human body worked, when I felt— found out those 3 cool things I shared with you and I realized my truths about what was going on in my body because one thing is I have celiac, when I realized the truth about what was going on in my body and then I sought out how to support it, I changed my own life and I made that conscious decision because especially if you're a parent on here, I'm gonna challenge you or if you lead children, we have to heal ourselves because when we heal ourselves, we break the cycle and that's when we really begin on that healing journey with other people and I think for myself, you know, I would have perpetuated the same cycle because how we end up getting sick is we end up doing— yes, genetic plays a part in it but it's not the biggest part, you guys. The expression of our genetics is not the biggest part, it's that we do the same things we were taught to do, right? So, you know, if my dad has diabetes, which he doesn't, thank God, but he eats tons of sugar and he taught me to eat tons of sugar and not balance my blood sugar, then I will probably end up with diabetes. But what if I was to change my eating and I began eating lean, you know, meats and I ate lots of fats and I did things differently? I'm going to express my genetics differently.
Right.
Right? So, we have this major opportunity in this lifetime, parents and leaders of children, to really do the work ourselves so that we can lead the future generation down a different path. So, that was a sidebar, but I felt led to tell you that. Okay. So, the third cool thing, safe, effective, and affordable. We're talking pennies per dose. Now, every oil, if you get pure essential oils, because I will tell you, doTERRA, the essential oils I use are extremely pure. They've been tested multiple, multiple different ways by a third-party laboratory called Advanced Plant Research Center, and they They can show you that difference. And you're probably wondering why that matters. Why would it matter they're tested? Well, in that effective category, I didn't mention this and I apologize, essential oils cross your cell membrane. So because they come from the cells of plants, they cross into your cell membrane. And that means they take whatever's with them into your cells. So you've really gotta stop and look at the products you use and the toxic products you use because Decreasing your toxic load is going to help you function better with ADHD. It help— it's gonna help everyone function better at any time when their toxic load is decreased, right? So, you need to make sure when you're using essential oils and essential oil-based products like shampoos and conditioners and face washes that the oils used in that product have been tested because you want to make sure, you know, that yes, maybe it says these are organic, but have you had it tested? Because if the pesticides from the farm next door door blew over when they were spraying them, unless they've been tested, we don't know they're there, but, you know, pesticides in your cells equals not a great idea. Are you guys with me on that? Okay, so I'm gonna tell you a few more things here and then I'm gonna answer any questions you guys have, and I hope I kept it short and sweet and informative. There's 3 ways to use essential oils. We can use them aromatically where we can easily put a drop in our hand, rub them together, and deeply breathe in. We can put them in a diffuser as long as it's like a safe diffuser, and that's because you want to make sure that product, those particles get broken down so we inhale them in a safe format, right? Just trust me, I'm not going to go into this whole thing right now, but really it does matter what diffuser you get. Not all diffusers are created equally, and not all essential oils either. We can use them topically. A lot Most of the kids I've worked with love the rollerball. They love the ability to self-soothe. They find it quite relaxing when they have ADHD and they can roll it up and down the back of their neck. They have control of on their wrist. They can apply it on their upper lip, which is a point of the brain reflex. They love that when they're feeling like they need that extra, you know, whatever, focus, that extra support, they can do that for themselves. Okay, so that is a topical application in a roller bottle diluted. Some adults, they really love the feeling of rubbing the oil in their hand, put a drop in your hand, some carrier oil, and maybe rub it into your shoulders, or the bottoms of your feet for grounding, right? So, the topical way of using is to add some carrier oil to dilute it because we want to protect the skin, especially sensitive skin, and we want to make our oils last longer. So, we're gonna get more bang for our buck, so to speak.
Right.
when using the carrier oil. And then we can also use them internally. So one essential oil that I love using for myself for focus, I do not have ADHD, but I have a very busy mind when it comes to the way that I deal with stress, let's just say that. And I have a 9-and-a-half-month-old and 2 businesses, so you can just imagine, right? Every morning I put 2 drops of frankincense under my tongue, Hold it there for a second followed by a big glass of water and then I actually take my thumb, put it on the top of my frankincense bottle, press it into the roof of my mouth and hold it for 5 seconds, it's like an intense thumb suck but that actually goes to the feel-good center of the brain so I definitely have not been diagnosed with depression but as Val said, God has always given me a lot to carry and when I feel that coming on because I choose not to go down that path. I will take a 5-second timeout, center myself by breathing in, you know, frankincense and melissa are 2 oils that I love, put a drop under my tongue, press in the roof of my mouth, and recenter myself. And that's what I'm talking about, like, finding that way that you feel, yes, I can achieve homeostasis. And homeostasis is the body in balance, right? So, You're not broken, you're out of balance. And what is it going to be for you? So that was going to be the hard part. The only hard part about this talk is that you're all different, right? And so I said to myself, a couple things I can do here because one, I absolutely love Val and I'm totally open to connecting with any of you if you're like, you know what, I want to find out the right oils me. I want to find out which essential oils work best for me. I'm totally open with any of you contacting me. I'm gonna run through some oils here. Open with any of you guys contacting me and saying, listen, yes, I'd love for you to help me get there because the thing is, you guys, we're gonna have to possibly go through some oils. Maybe that oil doesn't work for you, you know, and it's all about finding that balance for you, but I'm gonna go through the oils that really, I found really good results with. So one of them is frankincense. Frankincense is an extremely empowering oil. It dates back, you know, to the times of Mary receiving it as a gift, Jesus having his feet washed in it, Romans used it inside their shields for empowerment, Ayurvedic medicine pours warming frankincense over the head. Frankincense is a very empowering oil. It is literally empowering for anyone and everyone. But especially when you have like ADHD, busy minds, when you have lack of focus or concentration, that is the oil that just, it really helps regulate the cells in your body, right? It's that oil that for me, when I use it, it's just like, okay. And I know a lot of people that feel that way. So, that's an oil across the board. Citrus Bliss, it's a beautifully invigorating oil. It's a bit of a joyful oil. It's a combination of citruses. and vanilla bean. The cool thing about vanilla bean, which is a lot of people don't know this, vanilla bean, it actually kind of stops your brain from overthinking and opens up your heart. It's just the way the, the smell, the body works with the smell. And so it's a really good oil if you feel like you're just about to like, you know, overthink yourself to death. Artists do that a lot. Like they, They get lost in the idea and a lot of artists, I say, listen, you've got so many ideas flying and you're so lost in the idea, use Citrus Bliss because Wild Orange really calms the mind. So Wild Orange is also beautiful, it's in Citrus Bliss. The 2 oils I love for focus, there's a child blend called Thinker and an adult blend called In Tune. Now, if you're an adult with the child blend, you just use more and if you're a child using the In Tune, you just dilute it more, right? So these are both for focus. These are the 2 oils that are gonna help you to focus and concentrate, okay? They're going to empower the body in that format. The other oils I love is Adaptive. It's a blend of citrus, magnolia that's very calming. The young boy Val's speaking about, I said, let's just start with 2 essential roller bottles and let's start with Adaptive and let's start with Thinker. And those are the 2, just rolls them on the little back of his neck, rolls them inside his wrist and— Amazing results. And then we have Balance, which is a grounding blend, and Lavender, which is a calming blend. But like I said, I mean, there's lots of different essential oils that you can kind of find the combination that works just right for you. So I'm not really sure, Val, where to next with this, because that's kind of the things I knew I had to get out before you asked me any questions. Yes.
Thank you so much. Oh my gosh. I think even just explaining what the blends are and what they do really helps because if you guys are like me, you have maybe— I have a couple essential oils in my home, but I don't really know how— like I was explaining to you, Martha, I don't really know how to use them, what they do. Do I put it in water? I've seen a lot of different things, but I think for me, just Explaining that what they are, how you use it, and why is very essential. So thank you so much for explaining that. And yeah, we would love for you guys to oh looks like I had a message. Can we share something we can purchase? Okay, she I had a question come through, and feel free to raise your hands, you guys, if you want to come up and ask Dr. Martha some questions. She is a wealth of knowledge, as you can tell. And the question was, let me get back there real quick. Can someone share where we can purchase the oils for us, the Focus one specifically? So, Dr. Martha?
Yeah, so you can go to doTERRA.com, mydoTERRA, w— sorry, www.mydoterra.com/drmarthanesler. It's just important that you— because then we're connected. Because part of the cool thing about why doTERRA chose the method of person-to-person delivery system was so you could have me as a port of contact, right? So then we'd be connected. I can help you and I can put you in my community where I can tell you there are heaps of people with even more experience with this than me because they walked it themselves, right? So, but I'm happy for to do a consult with anyone on here. I am definitely this week a little busy, but plug you in next week or do a little bit of an over-the-messenger chat. So you can find me on all social media @DrMarthaNessler, and I'm really totally excited to get you guys started on the journey and find out exactly what would work for you and even recommend some nutritional supplementation as a good baseline for helping you kind of work more and more towards that homeostasis that we talked about.
Oh, I just realized we're not mods. Can you, Dr. Martha, can you, um, tap on my profile and then make me a mod real quick?
Oh yeah, sure. Uh, there you go. Awesome, thank you so much.
I was like, why am I not getting the notifications? But now I see.
Can you make me a mod too? Thank you.
Oh yeah, sure. This is my first time doing this.
Okay, there you go.
I know.
Yeah, she's newer to Clubhouse, right? So make sure you go up and follow Dr. Martha. I know she's definitely going to be doing more on Clubhouse. That's her goal. So if you guys are loving this conversation, go follow her. Also follow her Instagram. She is so heartfelt, and she does amazing content. And you'll get to see her beautiful little baby.
Winnie.
Oh, cute little Winnie's adorable. So please feel free to come up if you have questions specifically. Yeah, I love that you talked about, you know, the kids versus— it was InTune for adults and then Focus.
No, Thinker.
Thinker.
Yep.
Thinker. I love that.
But often, usually like the Thinker and the InTune, and usually with a calming blend, it works better. I found So like looking at lavender or the Adaptive, kind of more of combining them with a calming blend, because it does, you know, any stimulation, even if you're stimulating the nervous system to calm down, right? So you're like, hey, I want you to focus. That calming agent works so the body kind of, I guess, accepts it better, if that makes sense.
Mm-hmm.
So kind of the combination of maybe Thinker and Adaptive or InTune and lavender or So I'm curious to know, um, since there are the different types of ADHD, there's like the hyperfocus and then there's also the more inattentive style or inattentive style. Is there a difference, like for someone who's more spacey or, um, you know, a little bit more inattentive, is there a blend that you would recommend for them?
Yeah, that would be like the, the artist blend, the Citrus Bliss. Um, or the Wild Orange, because it's just a bit of like, you know, the focus is on the creative side, right? So it's getting that, that brain balance, right? The right brain, left brain balance. And it's kind of just calming that creative center so that there's more of an ability to focus.
And then the other question I have is, so sleep is a really big thing for ADHD people. And I know for me, like, this is actually how I even got diagnosed because I was having a huge time sleep. I was having a really hard time sleeping. I was up like, I mean, I was sleeping like two three hours a night if that, and then I was having like night sweats. And so it was actually suggested to me that maybe I was going through perimenopause. And so that's when we started you know going through the process, and I discovered that I had ADHD. So for people who are like have that racing mind and we're having trouble sleeping, you know I know this is a huge issue for this community. What would you recommend for that?
Okay, so for that, once again, it's kind of a by-person situation only because, you know, is it— is there a little hormone imbalance as well and things like that? But having said that, I love vetiver and lavender. So, vetiver and lavender are amazing at settling and calming the mind. Also, cedarwood. So, any of the trees are really good at grounding. When we feel like we're going to come up and out of our bodies, whatever we can do to pull them down. So, the trees like arborvitae, cedarwood, Siberian fir, they're going to pull us down, right? Because that's how a tree is. It's anchored, it's rooted, it's going to pull us down.
Oh my gosh.
So, those are good. There is a Serenity Cap and an Adaptive Capsule. They're both capsules from doTERRA that are also really amazing for people who have wandering minds. I call it a wandering mind at night. Your mind is wandering rather than drifting off into sleep.
Yes, absolutely. Thank you so much for that because I know that's a huge topic for us. Um, it looks like Catherine is up here. Hello, sis.
How are you doing? Hey, girl— girlfriend, how are you?
How are you?
This sounds so wonderful.
I love hearing about brains and activities and how busy our minds are and how to calm down, and it's just so much wonderful.
Yes, I love it. Do you have a question or any idea, any thoughts about this?
Not really, because I'm just listening.
I'm still continuing to learn. Um, I was just, you know, I only did the preface on Your Brain's Not Broken and already it's like, who is this person? They are in my head. How did they know this? I'm just learning so much, just trying to absorb everything. Um, I just want to be as healthy as I can and move forward with it. Again, it's ADHD. ADHD wasn't really a surprise at 61 years old, but it's fine-tuning everything that I'm looking forward to.
It's awesome.
I love it. And so since Catherine's up here, I was thinking about this as well because we did a room— Bradley and Catherine and I and a couple other people did a room on Friday night, which was very highly Recommended or asked for, which was ADHD and addictions. So you guys, Martha is so incredible. She actually also used to be a chiropractor in a resort-like rehab clinic, correct?
Not resort, Salvation Army rehab clinic.
Okay.
Definitely the opposite.
I was thinking it was like a really fancy resort, but okay.
No, definitely the opposite.
The opposite. So is there anything you would recommend? Because I know, and again, we're not endorsing or You know, saying that one way or another is a way, but I know for myself, my end goal is to not be on medications. I am on an SSRI right now because as you know, Dr. Martha, and as a lot of people in this audience know, you know, like having come from an addictive background where I did have addictions, I was very nervous about using stimulants. And that was just my personal choice. You know, that was through a lot of discussion with mentors, a lot of, you know, just different And, what was true for me was I chose to use Effexor, which is an SSRI mood stabilizer. And so, the end goal is definitely to do more of a natural holistic heal my brain and then figure out the imbalance that's going on. So, for anyone that maybe is nervous about stimulants, I know this is a topic we get brought up a lot in these rooms. Is there a route? I know you sent me a whole list of things that you suggested for me, but what is the route for that if there is someone here that's like maybe they don't want to put their kid on Ritalin or they've made the personal choice not to do the medication route. We actually have another woman in here who's a chiropractor as well, and she just discovered she was ADHD. I think it was a month or two ago. And, I know that her personal choice is definitely she's nervous about going medication route, but what would you recommend for that?
I mean, listen, my protocol 100% It's never going to be one oil, and that's only because that's just— I wish there was one oil like I wish there was one pill, right? But, you know, really it's the frankincense every day under the tongue decreasing the body's inflammation. That's a completely natural way of doing that, and especially if we have had long-term usage or of addictive behavior things, right? Just to sum that up, that's really going to help bring down the body's overall inflammation, and when a body's overall inflammation is decreasing, then its function will increase, right? And a lot of times, with ADHD and other, you know, function, different types of function with the brain, there is an increase in inflammation, right? That's why often you'll hear eating a clean diet without grains and dairy and things like that. So definitely the frankincense. I love the Citrus Bliss Balance Adaptive 3 plus Serenity. That works with all 4 quadrants of the brain. So here's the thing, we have to work with the brain To stimulate all areas. But here's the thing, like what I was saying is, if we stimulate the brain to go this one way, the, the brain always wants to get to where it needs to go, right? And sometimes if we balance one quadrant, we actually need to put a little bit over here in this other quadrant because the brain can go too far one way. So, I love using the Balance, the Serenity, the Adaptive, and the Citrus Bliss. To help that brain find that balance. Does that make sense? Because we're giving all the quadrants, so you pop them all in a diffuser and go that route, and then having the Thinker or the Intune there to support you with focus. It's definitely a process, but it's one I've seen done numerous times. I've seen a lot of kids get off their meds. I am 100% like Val, I would never recommend just stopping them anyways. That's nothing you would ever hear from me. I'm sure the other chiropractor on here would agree, but it's kind of like my friend's husband who had high cholesterol, I said, I don't want you to take off, get off your high cholesterol medicine, your body will tell you when, and about 2 weeks later he felt a little dizzy and he went in and the doctor goes, looks like the meds worked because you got to get off this medicine, right? So that is how the body is going to work for you, your body will begin to adapt and it will begin to tell you, I don't actually need that anymore, and you'll know through signs and symptoms, right? So, um, because that's how our body talks to us.
Yes, yes. I hope I'm not interrupting.
Oh no, you're okay, Catherine.
I love what you're talking about, the inflammation. It's so important, uh, to have— I mean, I know it's later on in life inflammation, you know, you have to do with arthritis and stuff like that, but inflammation in the brain, letting that good blood flow come through, it's so important. And I, I love the fact that you're talking about that because I'm not sure about the essential oils. I'm looking into them, but I'm learning with that too. But I know that inflammation is the foods we eat. And, you know, I know I have to try to watch that. So I'm learning in that area too. So I love to hear you talk about reducing inflammation in all parts of the body, not just the brain, but it just, it helps us throughout our day.
Well, and the thing is, the only thing I want to correct you on, it doesn't have to be, or the misconception I should say, it's definitely not when you're older. Anybody can have inflammation, you guys.
Yeah, that's true.
There's so many inflammatory foods that we don't even realize, and some foods that may not be inflammatory for, for me are inflammatory for you guys. So inflammation— actually, another thing I have 100 hours of studying is inflammation, because, um, we eat a lot of inflammatory foods, and stress causes inflammation, right? So it's, it's just that constant overhaul, you guys. There's never going to be one solution for anything. And it's always going to be a, what does my body need to function at its optimal level? And what does my unique cellular DNA, my unique system, what does it need, right? Because it would be awesome if there was a cure-all for everybody, but there's not, right? So it's just that what works for me and what can I do to find homeostasis and balance? And decreasing inflammation is something I 100% believe in.
Yeah.
believe we could all do because we're constantly bombarded with stressors, whether it's chemical, physical, emotional, that increase our body's overall inflammation.
Can I ask a question? So would you say that homeostasis is really the goal? Because, okay, so for example, I have epilepsy there. I mean, I know that when I've tried to go off the medication, which was when I was younger and very naive, that that, that was not a good idea for me.
Yeah.
So would we say that like homeostasis would be like, like the homeopathic, or not homeopathic, the overall health of our bodies and our brains? So what works? So not necessarily just like you said, one thing or the other as far as like essential oils, but balancing whatever happens. Because I feel like for me especially, I I am on medication. I don't, I don't ever necessarily want to get off medication because that does work for me. Um, and, you know, for, for ADHD, it's, it is like the most effective method so far to actually use medication. So I'm wondering like if like with the oils and with everything else, like our goal is really just the homeostasis, like giving our, our brains and our bodies what it needs because When we can eat healthier, especially with ADHD, that was what we're talking about. But especially like if we can eat healthier, if we can pay attention, if we can pay attention to the signals in our bodies, we can meditate, we can be mindful, we can use the oils. Like when we could do those types of things, it is going to lessen our symptoms. So yeah, I just, I'm curious, like that's really like our goal.
That's your— Your body's goal, your body wants to be in homeostasis because when it's in homeostasis, your heart's beating 100%, you know, lub dub, lub dub, you're— it's all, it's all on, right? It's like the, you know, the gallbladder is producing bile just the way it needs to, to break down food. So yeah, and everyone's is different, 100%, right? You know, like when I was a chiropractor, people would be like, I just want to come and get one adjustment. I'm like— Well, of course you do, right? But maybe you need 3 a week, maybe you need 1 a week, maybe you need to add ice to that, maybe you need essential oils, maybe you need to change your diet, you know. It would be amazing, we would have no issues if there was a one fix for all, right?
Right.
But what I believe is, is finding what works for you and, you know, where it's like, where drugs work for you, which is awesome. I, you know, would kind of have parents who come, maybe their son Lost too much weight. Does that make sense? When he was on, um, Adderall.
Absolutely. I have, I have clients that that's exactly what happens. And so they are looking for something else to help.
They have to. Yeah, because their kid is like, their kid just doesn't focus on it. So, you know, it, it's like, and then there's people like, uh, this boy I worked with in New Zealand. He's going to be a Major League Baseball player, but for him, his ADHD the medicine he got, he's very skinny, but it also made him a little angry. So when we added essential oils in with the medicine, he was able to do both, right? So he found for him what worked. And, you know, a thing is grapefruit works really good with anger, and it helps with glutathione absorption in the gut. It helps naturally producing glutathione. So when we put him on that, you know, the drug was causing a little bit of a, like, gut disruption. When we added in a couple, I think we added in, I thought That time in tune and balanced, and then some grapefruit in his water, it was a game changer. So, he still takes the medicine, but now he functions with 3 different essential oils on the medicine, if that makes sense. So, it's definitely just what does Summer need, what does Val need, what does Katherine need, what does Phoebe need, what do they need for them to function as the best version of themselves, and I think that's why I said I would do a consult with any of you because you're all different. And we've got to find what works for you. And the frustration in life comes when we say, oh, it worked for Val, I'm going to do what Val did, and then it doesn't work. And then what do we feel? Not good about ourselves, or we feel like we're broken, or— and that's what leads us down alternate paths of anger, frustration, addiction, and things, because we think we have a problem when we don't have a problem. We just haven't found the balance.
Right. And that's why I would recommend people, before they, you know, make some rash decisions, to have a consult with you because I guess in my mind, I'm just hoping that people are listening to exactly what you're saying, which is everything works differently and don't just go off your antidepressant or those types of things because that's dangerous. But if there is an option for you and that's what you want, then you definitely should have a consult with you so you can figure that out.
I'm 100% saying do not ever quit your meds. I would never ever tell anyone to do that because A, I'm not like to do that, and B, I like— I'm like you, just clarify. Yeah, totally. And like I said, you know, my friend with the cholesterol medicine, because he wanted to get off it because it was making him quite edgy, I said do not quit it. Your body will tell you, and then you go to your doctor and your doctor will tell you. Do you know what I'm saying? Which is exactly what happens. Yes, you'll notice when you need to go to your doctor and have a conversation.
Right?
So I'm definitely not doing that. So thank you for reiterating that because I 100% want to drive that point home. I'm not getting into that.
No, I just, yeah, I know how people, that some people are very, they don't like medication because of whatever it does to their body. And so, yeah, just making sure that they are being, you know, healthy, um, and doing it in a, in a safe way. That's why, you know, you have this, this thing that you, you have the consult, you have the, the information that they would need to do that. So just, yeah, just making sure that, you know, that's clear.
Oh yeah, totally. And on that note, Summer, you guys, I would tell you guys that real quick on anything you do, you know, if it's a course, absolutely call the person doing the course and ask them if it's good for you. If it's a new diet, find a nutritionist or a specialist and ask them, is this good for me? Because the other thing is, you know, it's a big difference if you have ADHD and a heart condition, or ADHD and high cholesterol, or ADHD and something So not like I said above, everyone's different with their ADHD. Yes.
Oh my gosh. I love that you guys brought that up because, God, this is so embarrassing to admit, but Martha knows what I'm talking about. I was involved in this like, I don't know, I guess I'm going to use for lack of better words like a cult and it was like a coaching community, but it was like a freaking cult. And they had convinced me that since I wasn't caught in my story anymore, like, you know, we were talking about our stuff, we were bringing up our past stuff. I was in this leadership program and they were like, Val, you don't feel enough. You don't even cry. Like, you need to cry. And I was like, I'm just, I'm not attached to my story anymore. I've done, you know, decades of work and I'm just, I'm not emotionally, like, it doesn't bring up stuff for me. And so they convinced me, they were like, you need to go off your medication. Because you know, like they did. Like they told me to go off my medications, and it was so horrible because I mean, I literally went through this like detox process because I just quit cold turkey without talking to my doctor, and I was like, "I've got to because I don't feel. I need to feel more." You know, and so yeah, like they convinced me.
I bet you felt a lot more, Val.
I bet you felt a lot more.
Oh my gosh! I felt so sick.
I felt so sick. And I couldn't— like, it was this just horrible process. So never, ever, ever, ever without medical advice and doing it wisely go off medication because, you know, like, the— it just— it can do things to you for sure. So I'm glad you guys brought that up. And yeah, good point. So I would love to— looks like we have Phoebe up here. Hello, beautiful girl. What is your question?
Hi.
Hello, Val. And hi, Dr. Martha and Summer and Catherine and everyone listening. I actually had just a quick question because I kind of missed it. And then I just wanted to say thank you for this space.
And it's—
I really like hearing about the essential oils. I— my friend got me into them a while ago just with the diffuser, but I love the idea of like using these topically or taking them like the frankincense under the tongue thing. My boyfriend really deals with a lot of inflammation, so I, I texted that to him right away. Um, but the question I had was that oil you mentioned to help calm your mind, like you said, a racing mind at night, or—
Citrus Bliss.
Oh, okay. And is that— that's a doTERRA one?
At night. Sorry, at night. Sorry, so I thought that was a creative one. So Citrus Bliss would be more like for the creative, like kind of lost in the clouds situation. Um, for at night, The, well, it would be like Adaptive is a really good calming blend for the racing mind. Serenity is also very calming and that has vetiver in it. Vetiver is like, I call it the horse tranquilizer of essential oils. So it's a heavy hitter. It's very low vibration. Like it even takes a long time to get out of the bottle because it's such a low, it's from Haiti. I have an orphanage there. It's a very slow-moving country. Um, but so you would want to look at like Adaptive or Serenity at night to kind of help. I always say pull your brain back in your body, right? Because I get that as well just from being a very creative person. Like, I can lay there and like a million thoughts going on and sleeping is not one of them.
Thank you. Yeah, that sounds like me too. So, like, lately I've been just trying to count sheep, which sounds so silly, but I'm just a really visual person, and so that's been helping me. But I'm excited to try these oils. Thank you.
You're welcome. And I will tell you guys, the oils I talk about are doTERRA, so I don't know any other oil brands. Please don't ask me, but do not put other oils under your tongues unless you know a lot about them. So I do want to say that, like, only the oils I'm talking about, like I said earlier, are doTERRA, and not all All of them you can put under your tongue. So you, you can't put adaptive oil under your tongue. So once again, like Summer said, this is when a consult's a really good way to make sure you're getting the right essential oil for you and using it in the proper way. So, and you have a, you have a friend, so that's good.
I was gonna say, oh, sorry, I was gonna say don't go to Walmart and buy the $5 blend and eat it because it's probably toxic.
Well, it's probably not even like if you saw some of the testing because I follow it, they'll test Walmart oils all the time. It's usually not even an essential oil. And the second thing, like we talk about, you know, because Val was like, is there any addiction to these things? Well, there isn't, but if you go and buy them at, whatchamacallit, Walmart, they could have like ethyl alcohols and things in them, which depending on your addiction, that would possibly be not a good idea at all. Not only would it be toxic to your liver, but it could be quite toxic to—
Your brain.
Your recovery process. So really being mindful that not all oils are created equal.
So good. And the other question I have— and sorry for the guys in the room, um, I know we don't say sorry here, but I'm just gonna say sorry for a moment, and you're free to close your ears if you want to— but oh my gosh, have I noticed that, right, like when I'm PMSing My ADHD gets insane, right? Like, it is crazy. I can't remember anything. I'm like up and down all over the place. And I've just noticed like it really gets insane. And this is something I hear from my clients as well. Like, is there— and again, there's no like blanket answer for everyone, but is there anything that would help with that?
Well, this is like the closest blanket answer because this oil is ClaryCalm. So It's Clary, C-L-A-R-Y, Calm from doTERRA. It's a roller bottle. It's gonna do— it's gonna bring your hormones into balance, right? So you can use it pre-menopause, post-menopause, during menopause. You can use it during your menstrual cycle. So it's definitely the one oil that probably finds the most balance for most people. But then also the Adaptive, once again, that calming mood balancer. Right? And that's what I love about doTERRA is it also gives you that kind of wholesale— you can get a wholesale account. So you're able to get these oils at a wholesale cost and you're getting like, I think ClaryCalm is under $20, right? It's gonna last you probably 4 or 5 months. So you can get pure oils at a reasonable price. Oh, that's a good one.
Thank you.
So I'm definitely gonna get that one for sure because that's something I hear all the time. And then people are like, oh, just wait till menopause. And I'm like, Oh my gosh, I'm not looking forward to that. However, knowing that there's a solution will be really good for that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And so I'm curious if— so I'm sure that people, you know, want to jump on a call with you, learn more about their specific situation, because I know that, you know, it's helpful to sit down and like really have someone, you know, go, okay, this is it. Like maybe they're experiencing that anger with their, with their medication or the mood imbalance, or maybe they're having trouble sleeping and they'll want to sit down with you and go over that with you and get a consult. How can they get ahold of you? What's the best way to find you and how can they connect?
On Instagram or Facebook at Dr. Martha Nestler is super easy. Dr. Martha Nestler, N-E-S-S-L-E-R. Or having said that, you can just email me at drm@drmarthanestler.com. Dr. M at drmarthanesler.com. I'm totally happy to help because, I mean, for me, mine's been different with my celiac, but I get the frustration of having been through everything and tried everything and having to finally find my own system of what works, right? And what supplements work for me because I have an EpiPen, right? So even what do I do if I think I've had gluten as quickly as possible? So, Yeah, I'm happy to help you guys.
Awesome.
Thank you so much, Martha. Like, I've had messages in the back channel, people are like, oh my gosh, this is incredible.
She's amazing.
