Val Nichols tells a client earning $2-3K yearly that the pandemic is an excuse, not the problem. She shares how she kept working through grief, then argues the crisis is an opportunity for entrepreneurs to move online and serve a captive audience instead of making excuses.

Hey guys, I wanted to pop on here really fast and share with you something that has come up for one of my now clients. So a woman reached out to me and she was really wondering like, how do I get my brand going during this time? Because there was this— she was on the phone with me and she was like, Val, You know, I do not know how. Hey girl! Hey Miriam! Hello, hello my love! How's what's good? What's going on? Thank you for all of those the beautiful hearts. I love it, love it, love it. Heart, heart, heart to you. Love it. So she was like, Val, here's what's going on in my business because of the coronavirus. I'm not making money. And I was like, wait a minute. What what does that have to do with you making money? The coronavirus. You're an online entrepreneur. And so I asked her, you know, what was your last year's income? And she said, well, you know, about $2,000, $3,000. I was like, for the year? Right? So yes, you know, long story short, this was her income for the year, was $3,000 in her business. She also has a regular, like, part-time job, right? Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I love all the hearts. Thank you, thank you. I'm being flooded with hearts. I love it. So, um, yeah, she was like, yeah, I, you know, I made $2,000, like $2,300 I think was the total in her business. And I was like, well then let me ask you a question. It's if you're making $2,300 in your business in the year, that ends up being like a dollar something per hour, right? Um, I don't know, I'm not good at math. You guys know this, full disclosure. But we did the math and I was like, well then how How do you determine whether or not the coronavirus is affecting you making money in your business if really your profits were kind of hobby profits? You know what I mean? Like, I'm just saying this as a business person. You know, I coach a lot of women with a lot of different levels of business, anywhere from, you know, $5,000 a month to pulling in like 5 figures a month, like very, like several, like high 5-figure marks in their businesses. And so here's okay. So here's my point in sharing this, you guys. The story she was telling herself was the reason why she wasn't making business or money in her business was because of the coronavirus. When really, when I pulled on that thread and I asked more questions, she was not making money in her business anyway, right? Yes, I agree, Miriam. It is absolutely affecting people emotionally. And here's the truth. The coronavirus will affect you emotionally. It will hit you emotionally way before it hits you physically, right? It will hit you emotionally way before it hits you physically, if that ever happens, which I hope, I hope it doesn't. My hope is that it doesn't. We can create these stories around anything, right? Like, yes, the coronavirus is real. Yes, this is real. And You know, there's also stories about, well, school is starting, so nobody's buying. It's Christmas time, so nobody's buying. It's summer, so nobody's buying. It's Valentine's, so nobody's buying. Like, we can create a lot of stories around our business and give it meanings that maybe don't really exist, right? And, you know, I will be full disclosure with you guys, like, in this time, um, business has been booming for me, you know what I mean? Like, I'm just, I'm trying to like open up the door that it's possible for you. I've taken on 3 new one-on-one clients in the past week, the past week, 3, and I have a call tomorrow for someone who's already confirmed that they want to be my one-on-one client. And you know, like, here's the deal. Like, I don't have that story in my mind that because there's a virus that somehow it's going to affect my business. You know, like, here's the thing. Like, because, you know, I have heartaches. A year ago, a year ago, it was showing me on Facebook Live. Like, I was devastated. One of my really good friends' husband died. I was walking her through that. My heart was breaking. I was on stages doing a speech, and I cried in front of the entire audience and had to shift my entire speech around that loss and like create a message in it. Like, literally, I'm standing on stage, and I'm just bawling, trying to hold myself together. Because we, you know, I can, I keep my commitments, right? I had already committed before this thing happened and I keep my commitments. So here I was a year ago, like literally on stage. I remember standing there in front of the entire audience and it was like I couldn't even look them in the eye because I knew the second I made eye contact that I was going to start crying. And so I look out at the audience and I see someone in the first row looking at me And I just start bawling. I just start crying and I just start speaking and like I pivot my speech around this lesson I had learned and this lesson that I had learned from this incredible man. And you know, sitting with my friend and gosh, I'm gonna get choked up again. Sitting with my friend as she's holding her husband's hand, taking his last breath of life, realizing how lucky I am to be here on earth and I'm so freaking lucky to be taking a breath. Right? And I'm so lucky. Like, I remember coming home to my husband and just holding him extra tight, like, babe, I love you. I am so grateful for you. And he's like, yeah, I know, you tell me, you know, like, you, you tell me, like, what's up, you know? And I'm like just feeling so lucky, right? And so I don't have a story around the fact that because there's a virus, because we're in shutdown, because now Everything I do is on Zoom because now I'm no longer speaking on stages because now it's more media because I'm on digital stages now. I'm pivoting. Like, here's my point in sharing this. Just so happy to be alive. Yes, girl. Yes, this is this is it. Like, this is like this is the energy we get to be in every single day, right? When you realize. that every single thing you have is more than enough. Life is abundant. Yes, amen, girl. Life is abundant. And so my point in sharing this is like right now in this moment, we get to pivot, we get to shift, we get to shift, and we get to be creative like never before. And you know what, honestly, as an entrepreneur, this is really exciting. Because what's happening is all of these people— I have my nail polish here, I'll use my nail polish— like, all of these people who are like, so here's me in the pink, of course, like, they're— I'm committed, right? Like, I'm committed and I keep my commitments and I show up. I show up and I do it and I serve. And in the time when, you know, everyone else is like drawing in and they're in scarcity and they're pulling back in their businesses, I'm like, I want to serve. I want to serve these people and I want to give them freaking hope. I want to give people hope that they can still go on. Oh my gosh, you're about to start your health business. Yay, girl. This is the best time. And this is why. This is why. Because right now, when people are consuming like never before, people are pulling back. They're in fear. They're creating stories. They're creating stories in their mind. That the coronavirus somehow is going to affect their business, is somehow going to affect the impact that they can make in the world. Now is the time for leaders to step up. Now is the time for leaders to stop making their freaking excuses and to just man up, woman up, and like get this done. Get this done. Because you know what? This is the time to be alive. This is the time to be alive. This is the time where legends are going to be made, where you can make such a huge impact. And right now you can like go full in, like you can just go full in. Yes. I've been preparing for this for years. Girl, me too. Consistency, creating that leadership of just showing up, doing the next right thing, serving people. Giving, loving. I truly believe this is a gift too. I truly believe this is a gift because this is just like in 2008, just like in 2008 when all the people who were like interested, right? Like I had friends who were like super successful real estate agents and during that time, like yeah, they got to shift, they got to pivot and all the real estate agents that were just dabbling went out of business. So this is the time when, yes, businesses are going to go away. Job positions that people had before will never be back. And if you can get this, if you can get this point that right now we get to create this, right now in this time, we get to step up as leaders, we get to make a freaking impact, and we get to create things in the world that have never existed. Ever. So you guys, like, I just want, I just want to like get this point across really clear. And I know that if you're watching this right now, you get this, you're in this. But like, we can create stories. We have a choice right now in this moment that we can pull back and we can use this virus as an excuse to sit on our ass, consume, and not do anything. Or you can be a true leader and You can step forward. You can say yes to your ultimate destiny and your dreams, or you can continue to play small. And because we're sitting at home, because we're in shutdown, when you literally have magic at your fingertips, you have a captive audience right now that you can be making a huge difference for yourself, or you can sit and consume Netflix, which is totally free. Freaking selfish, because if you have a gift that you know you're called to do, Martha. Hi! Speaking of amazing women doing amazing things, this girl right here. So you can you can like ignore your calling. You can wait and put it off again and say, "You know what? When this virus is over, then I'll do this. When this virus is over, then I'll serve." Right now, if you are a a purpose-driven entrepreneur and you want to make a difference in the world, then go do it. Go do it. Because I know people who are stepping up and giving right now in such huge ways, in such huge ways, huge. And we get to sink in, we get to shift. And we get to figure out what is our priority and what's our— what's not our priority. So I hope this helped you guys. I hope you got something from it. Thank you so much, Miriam, for making it so much fun. You guys are amazing. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, launch! Yes, launch! So the time is now. If you are putting it off, you know, like, here's the thing, I have learned so many lessons the hard way by waiting for an opportunity to pass. So many hard lessons. And then I, I— the only thing I do is like, I— when I was in that space where I would put things off and then I wouldn't do it, and then I would just— I was just reaffirming to myself that I was the type of person that put things off and didn't follow through with my word. So, you know, this is about integrity. This is about showing up. This is about being the person you are called to be. Because you know what? Like, I truly believe that God has placed within you a unique calling, a unique passion, and this is your opportunity. So go for it. Go get it, girls. I love you.
