Welcome to the VSpot. It's week 39 and I got a haircut, or as my friend Paul likes to say, I got my ears dropped. Let's do the news. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere you go. Take a look at Amazon, friends, it's deals time once again, selling us the same shit gifts once more. Beginning to look a lot like Christmas, toys in every store, but the prettiest sight you see is the folly you believe, profitability in 2024. From me, Temu. American-based shopping app Temu maintained its 5-month streak at the top of the UK number 1 download charts At this rate, it's inevitable that they're going to hold the Christmas number 1. Story 2: UK retail news, and there's some positives. Next, full-year profits rise for the 3rd time in 4 months, up to £875 million. JD Sports Fashion on track to deliver £1 billion in profit, or $57 billion Canadian dollars. Oliver Bonas full-year profits up 215% to £9 million. Building suppliers B&Q, modest growth shown but solid foundations in place. After that positivity, we have our next story, ASOS. ASOS sales fall 15% despite the general good growth. They are predicting lower than estimated earnings, but they're happy with their turnaround plan due in large part to exiting unprofitable customers 6% of the customer base are responsible for £100 million in earnings loss. September 27th, ASOS, 50% off almost everything. This week, the Indonesian government took a step to block TikTok's astronomical e-commerce growth. This new ruling means that TikTok cannot take payments as a social platform. It's designed to protect local businesses. After being turned down by the Indonesian president for a meeting, TikTok were told to take a ticket. Final story this week, Chewy, not Chalky. Ryan Cohen, co-founder of Chewy, has stepped into the troubled games retailer GameStop as executive chairman. Titled among his turnaround plans includes a marketplace for NFTs. In a report this week by Doc Gamble, it was revealed that over 69,000 of 73,000 NFT collections have a market cap of zero. In layman's terms, that means there's 27 million people— but good luck with that niche marketplace, Ryan— buying out There it is, that was week 39 on the V-Spot. Having beaten South Africa in the rugby last week— sorry, Andrew— we're off to talk down our chances of winning the damn thing.
