Welcome to the VSpot, your home of the nearly news for all things e-commerce and retail. Opening today with a song recital that depicts what's going on in the world of retail. $25 Amazon voucher will be given to the first person who comments in the section below. Here goes. This video is also an ode to the disheveled look I have. It's not due to lack of hair and makeup, it's just how I look. Hey, my name is Vinny O Brien. Where did I go wrong? My life's a bargain basement and all the good shit's gone. Just can't hold a job. Where did I go wrong? And sleeping in my car, my dreams moved on. I'm taking each day and night at a time. Yeah, I'm down, but I know I'll get by. Jumping to chorus. I might look like Sunday, but man, someday I'll be Saturday night. First story this week is Solo Stove, who announced two new brand ambassadors in a two-for-the-price-of-one deal. Snoop Dogg was a failure and sent to the pound. Too much smoke in his stove, maybe. Having not achieved the sales it wanted, the stove brand went from solo to duo, taking on Ann Kim and James Beard Award-winning chef Zach Zach Fowler, just rolls off the tongue, to aid the ailing sales. Second story this week, for all those people who call Spotify Shopify and Shopify Spotify, you're in for a treat. Spotify have launched an in-app merch purchasing capability. Recent changes to DMA laws in Europe means that Shopify— I mean Spotify are allowed to grease the wheels of sales and the palms of hard-up billionaire artists such as Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift. Story 3: Shoplifting in the UK is at a 20-year high. Not quite the triumphant headline I first read. Next story: From BNPL to BNPM. Marketers at Klarna got lazy this week in their push for the latest new retention tool. Klarna Plus— where'd they think of that, Jen?— allows customers to pay now a fixed monthly fee of $7.99 for access to credit services they thought were free all along. Anyway, one adult customer amusingly left us a comment saying, "BNPL means I gotta pay it back?" Story 5: Superdry has to pull up its pants after weaker-than-expected Q4 results. Chairman and founder Julian Dunkerton did not seem too perturbed at the talk and said, "It's time to innovate. Let's get out there and design a new hoodie and check shirt combo." That's a wrap for week 2 on the VSpot 2024. It's election year, so this is the place you can come to be guaranteed you won't be getting any party political broadcast, just more of this inane nonsense. Stay tuned, we're going to be announcing Happy Hour. It's going to be on February 9th. Watch out for the link and the place to be for all those people who are sad enough to be at home Friday night in Ireland, 9 PM, drinking a virtual beer with virtual work friends. Doesn't get any more hybrid than that. Have a great weekend, folks. Stay tuned next week.
