Welcome to the VSpot, your home for the e-com nerdy news where every story is a cautionary tale, a business case, or just deeply triggering. This week Amazon went full dad at the barbecue and told Prime users they are doing just fine, while secretly raising prices. Meanwhile, TikTok influencers are unionizing. Your favorite D2C brands are pivoting to airport kiosks. Nice one. And retail media is still being explained like it's quantum physics. Nice one, Colin. Oh, and if you're still wondering what the next big thing in innovation is, apparently it's bringing back physical catalogs. Fatalogs, I think they're gonna be called, or fadidlogs, fiddle-ogs, fad-logs. Anyway, it's gonna be something like that, so dust off your 2002 IKEA stash. The future is here and it's aggressively retro. The VSpot is brought to you by Omnisend, the only email and SMS platform that makes you feel like a real marketer, not just someone yelling into the void. Watch the V-Spot. Omnisend, it's Omnisend. It's like Klaviyo, but you actually get support when you call them. Let's do the news. Story 1: Amazon Prime gets pricier again. Amazon has quietly raised the price of Prime Video now to $11.99 per month because nothing says transparency like hiding prices behind Prime perks. Bezos is somewhere in space cackling while you scroll past 45th ad for Reacher, just so you can watch that Mrs. Faisal rerun. Story 2: TikTok creators are unionizing. Who'd have thought it? In an unexpected plot twist, TikTok influencers are forming a union. Finally, someone's standing up for the right to lip sync to earn a living. But let's be real, negotiating with ByteDance sounds about as effective as asking Elon to chill. Next, some Walmart tops. Everyone, Walmart's earnings crushed it again because they sell groceries, meds, and now ads. Basically, Walmart is a hedge fund with a deli counter. Every D2C brand and CEO should all be forced to do a 3-month rotation on the Walmart floor, Survivor style. 4, and Revolve launches a loyalty program. Revolve is revolutionizing customer engagement. Cute. Uh, with a loyalty program, because nothing says fashion forward like a point system that looks like it came out of a 2008 casino at Las Vegas. Next up, Nordstrom, and they're betting big on in-store experience. Nordstrom execs say the stores are the new experience. Even cuter. Uh, that would be convincing if the men's department store didn't smell like Hugo Boss from 2004. 4. Macy's turns flagship store into pickup points. Macy's, in its latest bid to stay relevant, is converting large format stores into pickup centers. So basically the mall is now a locker. Who had department stores becoming Amazon-style lockers on the bingo card? Hands up now. Oh, sorry, not me. Um, Target— number 7 story is Target says no more woke. Target claims it's moving away from culturally sensitive merchandise. Translation: we're scared of the TikTok and Fox News backlash, so enjoy your beige basics, America. Sorry, we're nearly there, folks, almost there. Crocs buys a sneaker brand for $250 million. Crocs is buying sneaker brand Hey Dude for a reported quarter of a billion dollars because we need another foam-based footwear brand. We've entered the post-sneaker sneaker era. Story 9, and Meta's new AI wants you to buy things you've already bought. Meta's new AI is designed to make consumers want, well, fun fact, 86% of users were shown ads for items they bought in the last week or month. And if you're listening, no, I don't need another garlic press or 5 packs of boxer briefs. I get mine every Christmas. I am good. Thanks though. Nice one, Meta. Finally then, and Starbucks, they're going early this year. The old pumpkin spice latte saved them last year, maybe it's going to do the same this year, but Starbucks has released its new pumpkin spice menu in June because nothing says seasonal authenticity like a cinnamon syrup cup apocalypse in a 29-degree, 39-degree heat wave, and that's 103 degrees, I think, if you're in the Fahrenheit side of things, so you most likely are. Um, that's not marketing, it feels like masochism. And that's it for the V Spot, your e-commerce and early news powered by Omnisend, the email service provider for marketers who need more revenue and less— the fuck is this interface?
