Welcome to the VSpot. I'm Vinny O Brien, your home for the e-com nerdy news. It's Friday, the week is over, and if I hear the word Agentic one more time, I am launching this laptop into the River Liffey, and it's a new laptop. So I'm not going to do that. I don't want to. Let's look at the news. We wish it nearly wasn't true. What's in store today? Well, get it? Well, it's the big tech stories. LLM spouse. Miracle says 70% of you are going to use AI for gift research. I say 70% of you have given up on the human condition. We have reached peak agentic commerce and we're only starting where the bots buy the gifts. The bots write the card and eventually, and maybe, just maybe, the bot goes to dinner for you. We all live in hope. What about the instant store? OLB Group says you can build a store in minutes. Brilliant. Now you can experience the crushing weight of a failed business before your kettle has even boiled. Gets better, folks, bear with me. Back to the physical world now, unfortunately. Uh, waitrose are class-gazing. Yeah, it's UK news now, and the Retail Gazette reports on facial recognition in the UK. This isn't a crime, it's just for vibe checks, you know how it is. If AI sees a North Face jacket that hasn't been to a ski resort, the doors stay locked. It's luxury friction, the newest trend in retail. What about Sam's Club over on the other side of the pond? Sam's Club. Cheese locking. Modern Retail says kiosks are making samples measurable. You want that cube of mild cheddar? You're gonna have to give them your DNA and a 5-star review first. Fuck you, Sam's Club. And then at the center of it all, what about that disappearing customer? The Ozempic closet is something that is real, folks. NRF is obsessed with GLP-1 drugs. We're literally resizing the global supply chain because everybody is on the jab. Expect the Shrinking Man subscription soon. New jeans for every 4 pounds. That's a subscription service that you lose, delivered by a drone that's always judging your BMI. It actually takes a video of you to see, do you fit the jeans? If not, it reports back to head office and says, no can do, Vinny, no can do. Uh, back in the UK, Royal Mail and An Post are expanding. The parcel collect service is expanding because we're all back in the office. New strategy is just throwing the package at your head while you wait for the 7:15 to Euston station. And finally this week on Nostalgia Corner— yeah, it's a slow week for the news, folks, but we're back. Um, Magento forever! Remember Magento? Finally, Magento is expanding again. Whoa, it's the Rasputin of e-com. You can't kill it, you can't migrate away from it, and there's always an agency in the UK willing to perform that exorcism. There it is, folks. That's the news. That's the 6 minutes that you're not getting back away this week. It's nearly time to leave the office. Get out of here, it's Friday. Thanks to our huge sponsors Omnisend. They're with us on this ride yet again this year. Subscribe for your weekly dose of e-commerce retail news over on the tube, link in the video, uh, or read more over at Substack. See you soon, folks.
