VSpot exclusive: Shopify's great Q4 performance has been marred by one huge unanswered question. Analysts and observers remain baffled and edgy trying to figure out just where is Harley's hat? Harley's trademark backwards cap has not been seen in public since February 2025, leading to speculation that Harley has hit his middle ages. His team will not be drawn into speculation but did reveal that Harley was not available for comment as he was playing Roblox with friends. Mystery lives on. Let's do the news. Welcome back to the VSpot, your 6-minute hit of retail and e-com news that's going to make you go, "What? You? You're the host?" Today is Friday, and it's Friday the 13th. Unlucky for some, but maybe you'll get lucky tomorrow. But weird for the rest of us. This week, robots are stealing your dates, the mall is apparently cool again, story from last year, and your palm is no longer a credit card. Let's do the news. First up, it's Valentine's weekend and machines are taking over on the romance department. Just Eat has officially launched a robot delivery trial in the UK just in time for the Saturday rush. So if your date is a no-show, at least a six-wheeled cooler will bring you a kebab. Always an upside. And if you're a last-minute panic buyer, Build-A-Bear has teamed up with Uber Direct. You can now get a personalized teddy bear delivered right to your door in under an hour. Nothing says I don't totally forget our anniversary like the stuffed rabbit arriving via Uber with a driver named Dave at 11 PM. In the things we saw coming news, Amazon is killing off palm recognition payment system. Turns out people aren't really that keen on scanning their hands like they're entering a secret Bond villain lair or Hank Scorpio's just to buy a Gatorade or a Lucozade. Amazon is deleting all that biometric data by June, so your hand is officially just A hand again. Why wait till June though? Mystery unravels. Meanwhile, Gen Z is officially fatigued by the internet. New data shows that they're ditching digital engagement for IRL engagement. I had to work out what that was. Didn't Google it. ChatGPT perplexity Gemini'd it. They're spending 27% more on Valentine's gifts than the average person because apparently when AI can write your love letter, A physical gift is the only way to prove you actually care. Who knew the kids would be the ones saving the high street? Not this reporter. And hold on to your cubic zirconia, folks, because the home shopping queen is in the hot seat. QVC Group is officially in talks with creditors to restructure its massive $6 billion debt in a potential bankruptcy filing amidst the live shopping rise. Turns out that Gen Z isn't the only one fatigued by screens. QVC's core audience is ditching linear TV faster than you can say EasyPay payments. I had to work in that one. They're trying to pivot to TikTok or streaming, but when your entire business model is based on a charismatic host selling a 14-piece Tupperware set, which I do love, uh, set to someone in their pajamas at 2 AM, a $6 billion hole is pretty hard to fill with just social commerce. Is this the end of an era or just a very dramatic commercial break? In our marketing fever dream update, the gas station wars have reached new levels of weird. The brand Sheetz has just launched their new canny pack. It's a fanny pack. It's an American story, obviously. But wait for it, it's a wearable cooler with detachable koozies on the central pouch to keep your hot dogs hot or your energy drinks cold. Something for everybody. They're giving them away for free to their highest loyalty tier members, who are officially called Freaks. So if you see someone at a festival this summer wearing a bright red insulated pouch around their waist looking like a high-tech snack delivery cyborg, just know they are a certified sheets freak. It's utility, it's fashion, and it's probably gonna leak all over your shoes. In the drama in the aisle category, Estée Lauder is suing Walmart. They claim the retail giant is letting fakes like Tom Ford and La Mer run wild on their marketplace. If your high-end face creams smells like WD-40 and costs $4, maybe, just maybe, it's not the real deal. And there it is, folks. That is the 6-minute VSpot, the time you're not getting back this week. The robots are delivering, the malls are full of Gen Zers looking for authenticity, and your hand paydays are numbered. I'll be back next Friday to see which billionaire's suing who. Ooh, fun times. Stay wild, stay weird, and for the love of e-commerce, don't let your AI agent buy a robot-delivered teddy bear without checking your bank balance first. That is the 6 minutes you're not getting back this week. See you next week. Thanks to Omnisend for making all of this possible, or blame Omnisend for making all of this possible.
