Chapters
There was a really great study that was done by MIT with NASA rocket scientists and basically let's assume that everyone who's a rocket scientist has a certain iq. However, they wanted to see with all these people with a very set iq, who are the people that became leaders, who are the people that were able to resolve conflict, who are the people that were likable and people went to to ask questions and for guidance and they noticed who are happy, happy in their marriages. Those skill sets are what distinguished people with high eq. EQ again talking about how well they can self regulate, how self aware they are, their social skills. Now if everyone with an equal IQ were to be geared, were to be assessed and some of them are rising into these leadership positions, then you can see right there that IQ does not correlate to happiness. We spend a lot of time in school systems trying to build our kids iq. Who's going to be the top at math, who's going to be the top of English. But that's why the emotional space is going to determine who you marry, how you handle a fight, how you handle friendships, how self expressed you are, how nervous you get, how you deal with your own shame and jealousy and frustration. That is what's going to allow you to thrive and keep close connected relationships with people and to feel and build your esteem. So I absolutely believe that focusing on how we build that, it's not that IQ isn't important. IQ is important in understanding how the world works. But building our EQ is going to allow us to tap into all the things that we want in order to be happy, which is our connections with others, how we handle a fight with our partners, all of those things.
