How to Get 3 Times More Energy Boost Without Having Coffee

Emily Fletcher argues meditation beats coffee for energy. Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors and crashes later, while meditation provides five times deeper rest than sleep with no crash. Replace your coffee break with 15 minutes of meditation.

Meditation is actually the new caffeine. That coffee is not giving you energy, that coffee is actually disallowing your body from feeling tired. Hi, sweet friends. I am Emily Fletcher, and I love teaching people mindfulness meditation and manifesting. So this is for all my coffee lovers out there. I am not going to tell you to stop drinking coffee. You do not have to stop drinking coffee. But I do want to educate you on something. Caffeine is molecularly very similar to a chemical called adenosine. And adenosine is what your brain produces to tell you that you're toxic. So if the caffeine is blocking your adenosine receptors, then your body can't feel tired. Now, that's really helpful if you hadn't slept well the night before, or if you really need to focus in, or if you want a moment of amazing productivity. But the trick is that there's going to be a price to pay for that. When that caffeine leaves those adenosine receptors, your brain has still been producing the sleep chemistry, and then they come flooding in. And that's why you have a crash after coffee. So here's some really good news. Meditation takes about the same time. Honestly, by the time you get up from your desk, go to the coffee shop, order it, get it, drink it, come back, it's been 15 or 20 minutes. If you're feeling tired like you want that afternoon cup of coffee, what if you just close your eyes, actually give your body rest. So the cool thing about meditation is that it's giving your body rest that is five times deeper than sleep. So for even a 15 minute meditation, you're giving yourself over an hour's worth of rest and you don't have a sleep hangover. Also, you're not going to have a crash on the other side. And instead of depleting your adrenals, you're strengthening your adrenals. So while the coffee might be more effective in the short term, meditation is far more helpful for you in the long term because you are increasing your body's capacity for rest. And you have this huge surge of energy and productivity and clarity and creativity without the jitters and without the crash. Sam.
