How to know if you are ready to coach | Ajit Nawalkha

Ajit Nawalkha walks through four signs you're ready to coach: you feel energized helping others, you're naturally curious about people, you commit four to six months to learn from a mentor, and you have genuine passion. Without all four, the early years will break you.

Do you want to ask yourself, have you ever helped anyone like you help anyone? And how did that feel? So I want you to tap into your heart. Take yourself back to that moment when you help someone with anything in their life. It could be something small, like they're going through a sad moment in their life, to something really big, like losing someone and if you were there for them, and how did it feel after for you to be with somebody like that, to support them in that time? Second, are you somebody who is naturally curious and interested in understanding things? The good coach is a curious coach. A good coach or a great coach is a curious coach. If they're curious and interested, they have a tendency to create great results for people. The third thing is, are you willing to give yourself four to six months to really learn the tools, techniques and strategies to actually learn the skill of life coaching and work with somebody or learn from somebody that can really teach you some systems, some methods, some models so you can go into a situation without a doubt that you can actually help the person that you're going to be helping? And lastly, are you interested in a career of impact? Are you passionate about it? See, like any career, this, the first few years are going to be hard. Sometimes you are lucky and you can get it. But most of the times, the first few years are going to be difficult. You'll be trying to figure out how to talk to people, what to talk about. You're going to get over yourself and so forth. So the only way you really keep going and keep moving forward is because you're passionate about it, that there is a purpose, there's a meaning to you pursuing this career. You feel like you're making an impact in society or whatever those things are for you. But there needs to be a drive that motivates you to be able to take action and in that direction.
