Short trailer/transcript excerpt arguing that exercise alone is not an effective strategy for creating health or weight loss; instead, diet (understood as a way of life) and the reasons why we eat are central. Chapters
There's a pervasive myth out there that exercise is a good strategy for weight loss or for health or what have you. It absolutely is not. Exercise is a way of enhancing health, but exercise is not a way of creating health where it does not exist.
Humans are the only people, the only species on Earth that go on a diet. Every other species has a diet. The original meaning of the word diet meant way of life. In making that observation, I suddenly started asking myself a different question. That is, well, if every species on Earth has a diet, don't we? And that's when my entire life changed. My life became a quest to find out what the truth was about us. And it became a quest of undoing what the food marketing industry has done to us around manipulating what we perceive to be our diet. The core thing I'm trying to say to you is there are a variety of different reasons that you eat. And the more in touch and conscious you can become about those reasons, the more conscious you can become about your decisions. Our current society, our current version of the human lifestyle, is contrary to our instincts and our physiology. And if we can begin to correct some of those things, we can create massive health turnaround. I've never thought about that before, but that is easy, really. True, it is. It's about freedom, real freedom around food.
