“This Fitness Transformation Technique Changed Everything For Me” Ronan Oliveira

A YouTube video in which Ronan Oliveira teaches a mindset-centered technique called a “story vision” to transform health and fitness habits. He contrasts typical goal-setting (e.g., weight loss and meal plans) with creating a tangible, grounded, emotionally compelling narrative of an ideal day that shapes priorities, motivations, and actionable goals. The video includes a detailed client example and a step-by-step worksheet-style exercise for viewers to create their own story vision.

If you could change anything about your health and fitness habits, what would it be? Let me know in the comments below. If I could change anything in anyone's health and fitness habits, I'll tell you what. It will not be the exercise they do. It will not be the food that they eat or don't eat. It will be how much time they spend clarifying their mindset. So what I want to share with you in this video is one technique that changed the game for me and for all clients that I work with in their health and fitness area of life. And I remember this one lady that came to me and she said, I want to lose weight. I set this goal five years ago. All these five years in a row, I never managed to do so. But now I get a coach and I'm going to lose weight. And I said, not just like that, not as fast. First, we want to see where this goal is coming from. And it's not about me giving you a set of nutritional strategies and workouts and meal plans. It's more what this goal means to you. And then we started working on what I call the story vision. The story vision is how you define this vision for what you want and your body to be like. And instead of us saying, okay, you're gonna lose 20 pounds in six months and here's the meal plan, I started asking her, so what do you want in one year? Frame your body to feel like? What do you want your body to be able to do? What achievements, experiences to provide? What do you want it to be like? And she started talking to me about this story, you know, in one year from now, she was a. A lady who was overweight. She had a family. And she says, you know, in one ideal, beautiful day, what I want is to wake up early and go hiking. There's a hill close to my house, and I always wake up at 11 because I'm super tired. My sleep is all broken up. And so I want to be able to wake up and go hiking and see the sunrise, because I don't remember the last time I saw the sun. And so in this one year day, in this one year vision, I'm coming back from the hike and then I'm arriving home, and then my kids are so excited and they jump on me. And I can actually play with them. You know, I can grab them, I can spin them around, I can roll with them on the floor because my body can do that. And then I stand up and I go make breakfast. And my kids are so excited about the breakfast that I make because it's much better than the McDonald's that we used to take every day a year ago. But I still don't have breakfast because I am fasting. You know, my body allows me this focus to be very productive at work up until maybe 12pm that's when I have my first meal. And then I get very excited for dinner because most of the times I prepare my own food. Every now and then I go out to enjoy because I built a body that that gives me the opportunity of not being 100% disciplined. My body can take it because it's very healthy. It has a great amount of muscle mass. And then I go for dinner with my friends and I'm excited because I'm wearing this pair of jeans that I didn't wear since I was 20. And we don't only go for dinner and gossip about people's lives as we used to do. Now after dinner, we go for a walk or maybe we catch up and do some sports in the weekend. So my whole lifestyle is completely different with this type of thought process. Now I can bring it back to you. So this whole was her vision. This is something that is much more pulling, that gives you much more fire for you to set a goal. Now you can set a smart goal that makes sense to that story vision. And now you have a lot more one reasons why to put effort into this goal. And you can make a set of goals that make sense to a vision that you want to achieve. So if you're thinking, you know, it's end of the year, I'm gonna set goals for the next year and all kinds of things. Before you do that, I want to invite you to define a story vision for yourself. And the way that you come up with that little story is that first you get a piece of paper and you can get it right now and even pause the video as I explain it to you so we can do this along or you get a phone anywhere that can take notes. In the first phase of this exercise, I want you to reflect about what is important to you. And one of the ways is just creating a few columns in a paper and listing down when you think about a vision for your body first, what do you want your body to feel like? This is very different from different people depending on the role that they have in life. Some people who are athletes, they want their body to feel fast or to feel light. Some people want their body to feel strong. Some people want their body to feel flexible. Some people want their body to feel ready for the stress that they have in their life. So just come up with a couple of words that express that it doesn't need to be anything that is super spot on. This. This is a way of expressing what is important to you. Then after this, in the next column, list down things for what you want your body to be able to do consistently. You know, for this lady, I told you her story, she wants to be able to play with her kids. They jump on her, she can throw them up and pin with them and roll them with the floor and do this every day because it's something that her body is now able to do. And then the third column, what are some of the things, some of the experiences that your body can provide you, Things that your body is able to accomplish. And for this lady, for example, she wanted to be able to accomplish hiking the hill besides her house. And for you it can be, I want to be able to squat my body weight. I want to be able to jump off a plane or backflip or rock climb or anything, any experience. I want to be able to cycle cross country. That's wonderful. Experiences one time experiences that you need a certain body to provide it to you. And then after that, in another column, you write down things that you want to be able to see when you look at your body. What do you want your body to look like? That is also a very important part. There's nothing wrong about wishing that your body has a specific aesthetics. And it's not necessarily about I want my six pack. Because sometimes it's not even what you want what other people told that you should, should want. But what is it that you want to look and to see when you look at? Sometimes it's about the shape, sometimes it's about the form, the combination, the proportions of the whole body. Sometimes it's impression, a feeling you want to have. And lastly in the last column, list down things that you want your body to be like. This is something a little more, a little less tangible. It is any concept that comes to you. You know, some people, when they say I want my body to be like, some people say I want my body to be like a machine because they want to be super focused and they want to be able to work under pressure and be athletic and all these kind of things. And some people say I want my body to be light and free is a feeling that you want to express. This first phase gives you a couple of images and words for what is important to you. Now that you are tuned in with this, now you write down a vision but this vision has a few elements. For this to work very well. The first element is that you want this vision to be grounded. And by grounded I mean physically possible. Because if you say I want my body to have wings, you know, until I want to be able to lose 30 kilos in five minutes, yeah, it's very nice that you want that. But if that is not physically possible, it doesn't drive energy for you to comply with any goals that you have. It doesn't drive any actions. So it needs to be possible. But then the second element of a strong story vision is almost the opposite of that. Not really the opposite, but it needs to be a little unreasonable. It is possible, but it's that thing that if you achieve is a little jaw dropping. You know, for this lady that I told you she was overweight and being in hiking the hill besides her house a year after that was something that's completely unreasonable. Wearing the jeans that she wore when she was in her 20s or something, completely, it was jaw dropping. And so that gives a little bit more fire for you to pursue the routines that will take you there. Then after this, think about how your vision needs to be also genuine. And by genuine, I mean it needs to reflect things that you really want. Often, especially when it comes to body image, we adopt goals that other people have set for ourselves. You know, you should be slim, you should be strong, you should be tough. Sometimes you don't even want this. And if you don't, if you even want this, it shouldn't be in your inner vision. Sometimes this is inceptions from other people's goals. So be clear on that. The fourth element of a strong story vision is what I call a transcendental vision, which means it goes beyond the body. A vision of a body that will provide a rich experience of life is a body that can connect you with more people. For this lady that I told you about, she wants to be able to play with her kids, she wants to be able to go on dinners with her friends. What is the body that provides me experiences that will bring me closer to more people. She also had her mom who had diabetes, and she wanted to be able to transform her body to perhaps even inspire her mom to take care of hers. So this is how your body starts to transcend who you are. And lastly, your story vision needs to be tangible. And that's why I write it as a story, not only as a vision that says my body is strong and healthy and amazing and all that think describe your perfect day from beginning to end. The experiences that you have, the ways that you feel, the things that you see. Describe that in a story. Because human beings, we know that we connect much more to stories than to just a description. Form a paragraph after. So go ahead now, after this video, or while you pause this video, reflect on your story vision. Come up with something. And I would love to know a little bit of your story vision in the comments below. So if you feel comfortable to share, go there. Share with other people. Also see what other people are sharing. If you have any questions about your goals or about your vision, please leave them in the comment below because I'll talk to you in the comment section and I'll see you in the next video.
