Three myths quietly destroying modern entrepreneurs

In this short talk, Vishen Lakhiani identifies three pervasive myths that undermine contemporary entrepreneurs and offers a reframing for each. The first myth concerns identity: the glorification of hustle culture—late nights, overwork, and neglect of health and relationships—is a false identity that harms the entrepreneur and, consequently, the business. Lakhiani argues that protecting one’s own well‑being and setting clear boundaries is essential because a business can only grow as its founder grows. The second myth involves society: many entrepreneurs mistakenly believe they succeeded solely on their own merit, ignoring the societal structures that enabled them. Lakhiani stresses that entrepreneurs have a responsibility to give back and care for the society that built them. The third myth relates to product purpose: a distinction is drawn between “business people,” who focus primarily on profit, and “entrepreneurs,” who aim to advance humanity. He urges entrepreneurs to align their products with a higher purpose that pushes the human race forward rather than merely chasing dollars.
