Vishen's SECRET to Becoming a WORLD-CLASS Public Speaker

Most people know me today as a speaker, but what they don't know is that I used to be terrified of getting on stage. Back in 2007, I was just a young entrepreneur in Malaysia building this little company called Mindvalley out of a tiny apartment. The idea of ever being on stage was just beyond my imagination. But one day, me and my team happened to attend a personal growth event in Malaysia. And we saw this incredible man on stage. His name was Roger Hamilton. And Roger got on stage and spoke about the future of humanity. I don't even remember really what he spoke about. What I remember is how he made me feel and his style and his energy and his charisma. And I remember sitting there in my chair with goosebumps, thinking, wow, I want to do that. I want to be able to move people with my words. I want to be able to present ideas with that level of magnetism and that level of style. But here's the thing. I'd never spoken on stage before, so I started learning slowly, painfully. I spoke for free for five years. I screwed up. I bungled my lines, I studied books, watch talks, failed, failed, and failed again. Then in 2019, I happened to take a class on public speaking. I don't know why I didn't take the class sooner. I just kind of thought I could figure it all out on my own. Plus, living in Malaysia, there weren't that many options, Frankly. But in 2019, I attended a class by a guy called Eric Edmidis. Now, you might know Eric from Wildfit. He's the brilliant health transformation architect on mindvalley. But what people don't know about Eric is the reason Eric is so brilliant at transforming people's health is because Eric is a master of words, teaching ideas, and thus a master of transformation. And so many people go to Eric and say, how can I teach like you? That he started a school called Speaking Academy, and he takes in only like 50 students a year. So in 2019, I took that program, and in just five days, I learned how to tell stories that transform. Prior to that, my speeches were very academic, very much like an engineer, because that's what I am. I'm a computer scientist and an engineer. Eric showed me how to bring in humor, how to bring in storytelling. Thus, my last speech, which happened in LA just a month ago at Mindvalley's Manifesting Summit, ended up being the highest rated talk alongside Joe Dispenza. How? Because I applied Eric's technique, and the technique basically looks like this. Does anyone have a piece of paper Andre piece of paper, you have your title right for your talk. And what people do is they go, point number one, point number two, point number three, point number four, point number five. For God's sake, your talk isn't a buzzfeed Listicle article. That's what I used to think. This is the way Eric showed me how to do it. So you have point number one, but you break it down into this. The story, the insight. The story, the insight and the mic drop. Then you go to point number two and you do the same thing. The story, the insight, the mic drop. So what I used to do before is if I had a one hour talk, I would give maybe seven or eight points. Now I don't, I'll give three. But every point, I start with a story, I share the insight, which might be the scientific evidence or the key idea. And then a mic drop, which is a memorable line that speaks to the soul. That's it. This boosted my average speaking score from around 4.5 to 4.85. That's a big, big, big, big, big jump. And it started getting me booked to speak at events around the world at six figures for a one hour talk. So this is what transformed my talk. And if you watch my talks, you'll notice the storytelling. Now, I also learned from Eric that the essence of a good story has to do with not just the story itself, but the emotion, the inspiration and the humor you bring in. So watch some of my recent talks. For example, if you look at my Instagram and look at some of the snippets, you'll see a lot of humor, a lot of storytelling. But that's what gets to people. People want to be spoken to at the heart level and that's how you speak. Not just with confidence, but with soul. Eric, Speaking Academy is basically five days, 12 hours a day. You don't get much sleep. He puts you through the grind of it. You come out so much stronger, so much more confident than ever before.
