A short spoken excerpt by Vishen Lakhiani defining the term "brule" (a "bullshit rule") coined in his book. He explains that brules are inherited, unquestioned rules people follow to stay normal and safe; the book advocates questioning authority (teachers, parents, preachers) and creating one’s own rules—using language as a tool to change perspective and capability.

So brule. Brule is one of the words in the book that has just caught on. So I invent about 20 different words in the book because one of the central ideas in the book is that language defines how we view the world. And when you learn to hack language, you learn to hack the world and your capabilities in the world. So one of the words I coined is the idea of brule. A brule is a bullshit rule. A brule is a bullshit rule that we adopt to simplify our understanding of the world so we can play it safe so we don't to create or non conform. We can just blindly follow the path that everyone else has been following for generation to generation and be normal. The book is about breaking the rules. It's about questioning what your teachers, your parents, your fathers, your preachers tell you to do. It's about setting your own rules for yourself and discarding the rules or bullshit rules of the past.
