In this presentation, Vishen Lakhiani forecasts that by 2030 advances in quantum computing and hardware will make immersive, holodeck‑style experiences possible. He outlines three parallel layers of reality that will coexist: the physical world (highlighted by his example of living in Estonia with its natural scenery and historic streets), an augmented reality layer that overlays digital information onto the physical environment (e.g., seeing audience members’ names when looking at them), and a fully virtual reality realm where users will wear haptic gloves, headsets, and earsets to feel and interact with digital worlds. While celebrating the transformative potential of these technologies, he also warns of the danger of addiction as virtual reality becomes mainstream.
