The attachment system, as I see it, is a biological mandate that says, I can't quit you. We confuse it for love. We confuse a lot of things for love, like attachment systems. You know, as a recipient of somebody who is insecurely attached, but their behavior feels unloving to me. But their behavior isn't driven by love or not love. It's driven by safety and security. So the attachment system is nature's glue that holds us together. And we think it's love, but it's actually a very primitive existential threat going all the way back to infancy, that losing our primary attachment relationship feels like death, like we will die. Now, logically, we don't think that, but on some level, we do feel it. And so threats to the relationship actually cause more trouble than. Than engaging, strapping yourself in for the ride.
