He emphasizes returning to basics—7–8 hours of sleep, eating fresh organic foods, staying hydrated (avoid tap water), modest exercise (about three times/week, ~30 minutes/day), dressing in layers, using anti-inflammatory spices like turmeric, and daily stress-reduction or self-care. Oh, thanks so much. I was waiting for you to click. Hey, check this out. Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa. And whatever you may celebrate, I hope it's awesome this month. This is December. It's the last month of the year. I wanted to put out a video this month to everyone instead of just writing. I know a lot of people have busy schedules. I wanted to do a video to talk about health and wellness and nutrition. When people think of health and wellness and nutrition, they usually group a bunch of information, a bunch of people and a bunch of things they think they should be doing. Really, it's pretty basic. This month is all about spending time with your family, with your friends, enjoying your loved ones, enjoying the time with kids and presents. And maybe not presents, but just things that we like to do together and share emotional energy. You can get energy from many sources in life. You can sleep more, you can eat high quality foods, you can drink clean water, you can think positive thoughts, you can exercise not too much and not too little. And you can just be yourself. It doesn't have to be special, it can just be you. A lot of people get caught up in these new trends. I wrote a couple articles in the newsletter below that I'd like you to look at about 60 day diets on potatoes, 30 day diets on eating nothing but one type of food. And let's be honest with each other, they don't work. When I was 60 pounds heavier in 2001, I realized a cold, hard fact. Unless you change certain things about your behavior, your body will never ever look or feel at its best. So before you go on eating plates of food and tearing open candy boxes and just going about the monotony of the holidays, try to just pause the tape and think about what you're going to do to improve your health this month and into the next year. So we're definitely in the age of over information and it doesn't have to be that way. On one hand we're granted with this amazing technology called the Internet, and on the other hand it gives way to people being taken advantage of. We've all heard of the Shake Weight, the Absizer, the electronic belt device that burns fat while you sit on the airplane. Come on people, Seriously. So I just want to hit you guys with some simple things you can do to stay healthy, not get sick and avoid any type of cold or flu symptoms for the next couple months. And it starts with sleep. Let's get seven to eight hours of sleep per night. Let's eat an abundance of fresh, organic, maybe locally Grown, but at least organic and pesticide free, toxin free substances that you can eat that grow out of the ground or trees. The next thing, let's talk about being hydrated. Being hydrated is just as simple as getting water from a container that you bring to work. Just please avoid the tap. If you haven't read about fluoride levels in our tap water, just google fluoride, tap water, local sources, you'll see San Diego, I think we were ranked in the 20s. It was not that great. Exercise, exercise just three times a week. It doesn't have to be a heavy amount of exercise for most people. 50 or 60% of people in America are already in cortisol stress anyways. So too much exercise is just going to elevate your levels in your body. It's going to make your cortisol explode up and you already have enough of that as is. So just exercise 30 minutes a day. Go to the lake, go for a walk, do whatever you can. Dress in layers. Layers provide warmth for your body. If you're in the snow, wear some thermals, don't be cold for longer than an hour. Females, you have about a 6 degree temperance difference. So we'll deal with that on a later topic. Spices like ginger, turmeric. Turmeric is a natural anti inflammatory. A lot of times people get cold in the winter, their joints get stiff. Try eating more turmerics, mustards if you can take it. Try to get a gluten free mustard. A lot of mustards are not gluten free. Carve out some time for yourself every day to just do something you enjoy that's stress free. Whether it's yoga, could be painting something chill. It doesn't have to be complicated. Once again, we're amazing in America at making things complicated. Just make it simple and you're going to have the best holiday ever. Stay healthy, stay hungry for good foods. And whatever you do, make the right choice when it comes to you. I'll see you next year. Sam.
