This is a YouTube video titled "Brain + Gut are interconnected #guthealth #podcast" discussing the connection between the enteric nervous system and the brain, focusing on the role of the vagus nerve and neurotransmitter production in the gut. What do you make of this? The connection between the enteric nervous system, that second brain, and the way that our primary brain actually functions.
The vagus nerve connects from the brain stem down to our intestines, and the brain is sending signals to the gut, and the gut is sending signals to the brain. And they are so interconnected, it's crazy.
To even conceptualize how many nerve endings there are in the ENS and how those dovetail with the autonomic nervous system and how that regulates our entire homeostasis.
All these neurotransmitters are being produced in our gut. So 90% of our serotonin is produced in our gut. Gaba is produced in our gut, which is our calming hormone. Dopamine is produced in our gut. So there is a total connection between the gut and the brain. And the brain, if you're stressed out and you're constantly in that fight or flight response, it's sending signals down to your stomach. You know, when you're excited about something, what happens? You get butterflies in your stomach, or let's say you're nervous about something, you know, you have to go to the bathroom, or you're super scared, or you're nervous, or you're stressed, your stomach, you start having stomach issues.
